The dog has had his day Started by: aDog on Mar 14, '25 15:16

"It's been nice, being out here in the sun. Pleasant. I had a good run - boy, did I tire! Many of my bloodlines recent spawns have been angry, murderous. Today was peaceful, serene. I wonder what iteration of me my line will spit out next. Will they be loud and rambunctious? Abhorrent, even? Will they keep yapping? Will they give the air five minutes to enjoy being free? Who knows." He chuckles softly.

"Sometimes I wonder if we're chasing the high my DNA remembers from the first time we set foot on the sand. Maybe that's our real addiction. Maybe I want to feel what that guy felt. The excitement of what was coming next... Everything was new to him.

He had to ask questions and find things out as he went. He didn't have annals of history recorded by his lineage to study and ruminate over, to use to his advantage, to give himself the best chances in life. He didn't know about the shooting range in his first day or that his starter roll role mattered. He didn't know so much and he didn't know what he didn't know, so he didn't know how deep what he didn't know went. But I do know. I'm a wise old dog. I've read everything. And I've watched from a distance as it plays out exactly as told to my forefathers. We've seen the same method repeated over and over. We know what happens next. It's the same thing that always happens next."

"I'm told that during my lines first run here, we were suspected of being incog. Now I know what I know, I look back and it doesn't surprise me. He was a big red flag, many in fact. But we had a solid introduction - the sponsor looked out for us. He spent countless hours answering the dumbest questions my line could think up. We had to know eeevvveeerrryyyttthhhiiinnnggg! We found places some people didn't even know existed so we could soak up as much information about this way of life as possible."

"That sponsor taught us how to hunt durdens and bodyguards, so we knew how to live and build on a budget. My line didn't even know you could pay for tips about them pesky bodyguards until the fourth generation! Don't laugh... We still built above average for the time, believe me. It was slower then than now, of course. We weren't so fortunate with the lounge rewards and the durdens were not so brazen and common as they are these days, but all the same... That little shit had a cannon. He picked it up fast."

"He never did wrong with it though! Nope. He never used it for anything serious in fact. Shame. But to be expected... New guy, right?"

"I wonder how many of you are out there without a sponsor? I've heard from questioning Leaders and witnessed clueless Hands. Perhaps you've just had bad teachers. I've always tried to ensure I'm punching the face that deserves to be punched, so my line has decided to stop with the guns. We won't be firing another shot at the mid-ranks. We are now unarmed combatants. Unarmed but equipped with truth, help, aid, advice, guidance, sponsorship, leadership, friendship. Come bring your best ship, show me your best shit.

I've got an hour or so left in me before they come, I reckon... I'll be relaxing in all the usual places. Quiet with my cuddly toy, maybe a little bit of pork crackling to keep me dreaming. If anyone's got any questions, needs any help, wants to chat a bit of mafia, come hit me with what you got."

He smiles.

"Thanks for listening."

"Doggo out."
