You look confused. Let me explain; these days, a rogue is merely a member of a syndicate old enough to theoretically have the ability to rogue, regardless of whether they have the inclination - or indeed the gun strength to effect change. No other parameters need be considered. If you age, you are a rogue without even needing to rogue. You’re a rogue if you don’t have a gun, you’ll be a rogue until you die, and even if you do die, you were probably a rogue ready to pounce anyway. Regardless of what you say or do, you are considered a danger by this regime, and be treated with the contempt befitting a traitor seeking to usurp the throne. You are, for all intents and purposes, in a superposition of both being and not being a rogue, simultaneously.

Once upon a time, our leaders embraced competency. They nurtured a thirst for betterment from the crew they lead. Leaders trusted their members and members reciprocated that trust by arming themselves, and protecting the family crest with their lives. When a crew leader initially recruits a promising young buck into their crew, the fresh faced young ‘un is of very little threat. With time however, comes pistol proficiency. No longer do our crew leaders view this type of proficiency a positive. No, now it is considered a threat. A wicked trait that needs to be snuffed out. Located and excised from our world like a tumour. Locating the guilty though, that’s tricky. Why go to that hassle when it’s simpler to mow the garden when the growth gets too tall? Sure you’ll decapitate some flowers, but the weeds won’t get the opportunity to bloom either. Meh, the flowers were probably weeds anyway, right?

At what point does that threat cease to be theoretical, but instead realised? What threshold need be crossed for action to be taken? Judging by today, and several previous cullings, age appears to be the determining factor. Loyalty no longer bears relevance. Fiscal contribution? Pfft, inconsequential. You were communicative? Nah bro, just a really good incog. No matter what, you are a rogue beneath it all - without needing to do anything to earn the title.
