Viviana was here on a mission. The instructions were very clear. Find Luciana and bring her back to Italy alive. She was one of the best soldiers Luciana's father had, so she was perfect for the job. With some money in her pocket, she got on a boat and traveled to the US. Bricktown, Detroit specifically, since that was where she frequented.
After months of searching and asking around various shop owners, she finally tracked down where her apartment was. Swiftly picking the lock, she entered with ease. However, she was greeted by someone unexpected.
A sharply dressed man was sitting at the kitchen table, eating an apple while looking outside the window.
"Sorry. You are a tad bit too late." he said.
"Who are you?" Viviana said, reaching her pocket and readying her gun.
"Oh me? I am agent Stanley. I worked for the one you are looking for. Yeah I miss her already you know. Not only did she stuff my pockets with unmarked bills, she was also a good friend. Heh. Maybe my only friend."
Viviana couldn't believe what she was hearing.
"Where is she?! Tell me!" she said, drawing her gun out.
"Lucy? Ah well... I am afraid she is no longer with us. I'd like to believe she is watching us right now. Laughing at the stupidity of our situation."
Viviana felt a sudden weight in her heart. No. She couldn't be dead right?
"What situation?"
Stanley gets up and approaches Viviana.
"Sorry miss. I've said too much already. You can look around the place if you'd like. I've searched every nook and cranny soo there is nothing useful here. Now if you'll excuse me..."
Stanley tapped her on the shoulder and made his way out of the door.
As she heard the door close behind her, Viviana knew exactly where to look. She made her way to the closet and put her hand on the wall. As she moved her hand, she tried to feel for a small tearing on the wall. She knew it would be very tiny, but she was certain it was there. Surely enough, she found it and pulled the tip as hard as she could, revealing a small book that fell on the ground.
Viviana chuckled. Lucy would have a similar hiding spot back home. She found out one day, and revealed a few blunts and 2 pills of ecstasy. Lucy begged her not to tell her dad, and she didn't. That day, they knew they could trust each other. They were like sisters in some kind of way.
"Oh Luciana. No more drugs. You corrected yourself didn't you?"
She picked up the book and flipped through the pages. They were all empty except for the last one. She gave it a read. At that point she realized it was Lucy's diary. She knew what she had to do. She had to fulfill her last wish.
After confirming and mourning the death of her friend, she set up a small table and chair in the streets and put Lucy's diary down for everyone who wished to read it, then sat on the chair and waited. |
