"Hey, boss?" Mistletoe's bodyguard entered the room she was currently using as an office. She was hunkered down and staring intently at the journals in front of her. She hadn't even noticed the knock on the door's frame from him standing a few feet away. "Yo, boss!" She looked up at him and smiled, "Sorry, just going through some old things. Guess I got a little lost in them. Did you need something?" He nodded and handed her the bill that was slowly starting to add up from Chicago's hospital. "I know at present we're dealing with the current Godfather in Chicago, but the doctors said they can't keep working on the boys until they see some cash." Mistletoe looked at the bill and stood up to walk over to her safe. She looked back at him and he turned around to allow her some privacy as she moved the painting away from the wall. A few clicks and she had the money in hand, closed the safe, placed the painting back up, and went back over to him to hand him the cash. "That should be enough to cover it. Are they doing okay?" He nodded and informed her that most were some stitches, a couple of clean shots through, but nothing to worry about. She thanked him and walked back over the the couch she had been sitting on and looked back at the journals before her. They were old, many lifetimes ago from those in her family line. She was looking for a bit of hope in them and she found plenty of it in a few. "Is it crossing a line if I ask what all that is about?" He had not left the room yet and gave her a bit of a surprise. She laughed at herself since she had already thought he was long gone back to the hospital. Mistletoe looked back at the journals and then back to him. "Just some old family keepsakes. Reminiscing about old times, yanno, what we all like to do? Seems like the older you get the better the past seemed to be, or well, most of the time it feels that way." He gave a smile and agreed. He too did that from time to time. "Anything good?" He asked while putting the money she had gave him away in his suit pocket. Mistletoe thought on that question for a moment. She was not like many of the women in the journals. Yet, she found some spark inside of her that wanted what they had back. They enjoyed building a place for those around them, they hosted competitions, sent out mails to try and keep things interesting, and most of all felt more positive about their life here. She stared down at the journals again and nodded to him this time. "Yeah, there is still some good and perhaps I can try to bring some of it back. It may not be what people are wanting, but I feel like I gotta do more than just this. One more real go before I meet my maker, eh?" She smiled up at him and closed the journals. She tossed a few in the trunk next to the couch and kept a couple out to reference back to. "Sounds like you're planning to bring some Christmas cheer to the rest of the year," He replied and gave her a quick wink. "I best get back now, hope you and the others can finish up with this Chicago guy soon, the men will be happier for it." They both chuckled a bit but knew that removing another family wasn't exactly a laughing matter. He made his way out of the room to leave her with the couple of journals she had kept out. Smiling at his comment and play on her name, she liked the idea of Christmas cheer more than just one time a year, maybe it would even catch on. |
