The Call Of Redemption Started by: Lucy on Mar 31, '25 14:06

"We are here miss. Bricktown, Detroit."

Lucy gets off the cab and starts to walk towards the graveyard. She looks at her pocket watch. 10pm. This night was different than all the others. Colder, quieter... Darker.

When she arrived, a strong smell hit her nostrils. She knew that smell, very well. It was the smell of death. Although she had been used to it, this time was different. And that was because it was coming from people she knew.

Sure, not all of them were innocent. In fact, nobody is innocent in this life. Still, it didn't feel right.

She stood above her own grave and lit a cigarette. As she closed her eyes to enjoy the silence of the night, she heard footsteps from behind her, as if someone was trying to sneak up on her.

"Not this time Stanley..." she said.

Stanley chuckled as he holstered his gun.

"Heh. Was wondering when you'd show up." he said.

There was a momentary pause before Lucy took a drag and asked.

"So.. How did it go? Judging by the papers and this tombstone, I guess I am a ghost."

"I don't know how you did it but, it worked. But I've been meaning to tell you.."

Lucy suddenly widened her eyes.

"What? What is it?" she said with an evident worry in her voice.

"You had a visit. Some Italian girl broke into your apartment. I could tell from her accent."

Stanley told everything that had happened in Lucy's apartment a few days ago.

"Viviana..."

"Did you know her? Well sorry to disappoint but rumors are she's dead."

"Did you see the body?"

"No but-"

"She's not dead then. She's back in Italy."

"She revealed your diary to the public by the way. You never told me you had a diary." Stanley said.

"I know. It doesn't matter now."

"Hmm. I see. Let me ask you something. Who lies in there?" Stanley said, pointing at Lucy's tombstone.

"There my friend... Lies who I used to be. A naive little girl with regrets dragging her down."

"So. You've been reborn then? I doubt it."

"This little vacation has given me lots of time to think, to clear my head if you will. I've gotta say... It's been eye-opening."

"Yeah rehab is great and all but now you're back in the real world honey. Taxes to pay, responsibilities, money to make and most of all mouths to feed, especially mine. How will you make that kind of money?"

"I've told you before, haven't I? I took an oath."

"After all this shit... You're still with them?"

"Yes. I can't go back on it. I am and always will be a Ligambi."

"Aren't you afraid they're gonna shoot you the moment you step in the door?"

"They might... But at this point, I have nowhere else to go. They are the only ones I can call family, Stanley."

Stanley expressed his worry by letting out a faint sigh.

"You do you miss. What do I know anyway? I'm just one of your employees. Don't mind me."

As Stanley started walking away, he turned back for one more question.

"What will it take... To finally die Lucy?"

Lucy looked Stanley in the eyes and remained silent. She didn't have an answer.

"You can still walk away you know... Everyone thinks you're dead. You can leave all of this behind forever. Life has flashed before your very eyes more than once now."

There was a moment of silence before Stanley drew closer and lowered his voice.

"All I am saying is... It is only a matter of time..."

"... Then... I better make the most of it." Lucy said, with confidence in her eyes.

She flicked her cigarette towards her grave, walking past Stanley and leaving him in the darkness of the graveyard. He flashed a smile, before taking off to the opposite direction, leaving the cigarette as a burning memory of Lucy's past self.
