A Grave's Bouquet Started by: Mistletoe on Apr 07, '25 20:35

The days were starting to feel more like spring and the flowers were agreeing, many were already beginning to bloom. The trees were bright green and Mistletoe stood outside her family's headquarters breathing it all in. The sun warmed her cheeks and the birds chirping brought a smile to her face. She had learned to enjoy the little things, especially in this line of work. Today would not be a bloody day or a day about making money. Today she had different plans.

Mistletoe strolled down quite a few roads until she reached a large and empty field. The grass came halfway up her legs and tickled her skin as she hiked up her dress to avoid getting the plants all over it. She was looking for the finest wildflowers she could find today. A few purple stalks, some yellow, and a few white. They smelled great and looked beautiful in the bouquet she had created. Looking back towards the road she realized she had ventured further than anticipated. She now had to hold her bouquet and her dress as she walked back towards civilization.

Reaching the road once more, Mistletoe fixed up her dress and touched up her hair. Both had become a little untidy from her adventure in the field, but she now returned looking a bit more civilized. From her satchel she pulled out a ribbon and tied it around the bouquet, this final touch brought her smile back to her face. "You'll be a nice addition." She commented and looked around to decide which direction would be the fastest to her next destination.

The streets were bustling at this hour, not as busy as when people were headed to work, but still lively. Street vendors were trying to sell their products, newspaper boys were yelling about the most recent happenings, and men and women were deciding what to buy and where. Business was booming and everyone wanted a piece of it. Mistletoe was not here to buy or sell, she protectively held her bouquet as she weaved in and out of the crowds. A few men tipped their hats to her as she passed, she smiled but did not linger.

Upon arriving at her newest destination, the roar of the streets began to die down. The cemetery was a much-welcomed reprieve, but a heaviness also sat upon it. Only a few souls were visiting and many held tears in their eyes as she passed. Today was such a gorgeous day and the cemetery eerily was one of the nicest looking places on a day like today. People respected the dead more than they did the living, they looked after it, tended to it, and frowned upon any who tried to deface it. She wondered how beautiful the world would be if we respected the living as much as we did the dead.

Mistletoe reached the grave she was looking for, it held no name, no writing on it. It was a grave for the person who would die, prepped and ready. She liked to visit these and place flowers upon them because you never knew when your time was about to be up. It was a reminder that those beautiful flowers might be for her or a friend. It helped her to remember to live each day like your last and to talk to people like it could be the last thing you said to them. She wondered if more people treated life like that how much better it would be. We'd choose our words more carefully, hug each other more often, and each moment would be profoundly more important, we might even enjoy them more. Mistletoe smiled at the thought and placed the bouquet down.
