Suggestion: Can We Make The Drug Game More Dynamic? Started by: Fulmineo on Apr 30, '25 15:03

Hey everyone — I know I’m relatively new around here, but I’ve been really enjoying the game and wanted to throw an idea out there that could make one of the core gameplay loops even more fun and engaging.

Right now, the drug game is a steady, reliable way to make money — and that's great. But considering how central drug trafficking is to real-world organized crime, I think it could be even more dynamic, strategic, and player-driven without necessarily becoming more profitable. Here's what I'm proposing:

1. Player-to-Player Drug Deals Across Cities

Imagine this:
I'm in Los Angeles, holding 20 units of cocaine I bought for $5,000 each. I hear there's a spike in prices in New York, where they're going for $7,000 a unit. But my flight’s delayed 12 hours. Instead of missing that window, I should be able to reach out to a contact in New York — maybe a Friend of Mine — and cut a deal to sell my product to them for, say, $6,200/unit so they get their cut too.

Let’s say I then ship it via truck, with a timer (maybe 6–12 hours) representing the travel/delivery time. This introduces:

  • Strategic pricing

  • Real player negotiation

  • Geographic coordination and crew-based logistics

  • Risk vs reward decisions

2. Retail Dealing to NPC Clients

Let’s also open up individual drug sales to NPC “clients”:

  • Each player can sell directly to 1–3 NPCs at a time

  • Sales are limited by a cooldown (e.g., every 8 hours)

  • Clients pay slightly more than average if you build up reputation

  • Better rep = more clients + higher prices

  • Players set their own prices, but unreasonable prices turn clients away

  • If clients leave, rep goes down, hurting your sales power

This would simulate turf, loyalty, and reputation — classic elements of real-world dealing — and give players a reason to stay active and make smart pricing decisions.

3. Enter: The Plug (NPC Market Enforcer)

To keep things from getting too "race to the bottom," we introduce The Plug — an NPC force that steps in if players consistently undercut the market too heavily:

  • Selling too far below market repeatedly would trigger heat

  • NPCs could rob or attack reckless sellers

  • This would represent the real-world consequences of messing with someone else's territory or profits

  • Keeps the market from collapsing while preserving competitive strategy

Why This Works

  • Encourages more player interaction and trust

  • Adds layers of strategy, logistics, and risk management

  • Provides new incentives for crew cooperation and alliances

  • Makes the game world feel more alive, with reputation, connections, and danger

  • All without necessarily changing the economic balance too much

Would love to hear everyone’s thoughts or additions. I really think this could add depth without disrupting the game’s core systems.

Thanks for considering!

I wonder if selling drugs directly to other players could enhance game play?  Particularly if there was scope to cut the drugs, rip people off etc

Im not sure if admin would be in favor of creating things that would engineer conflict among the players but it sure sounds fun to me!

I haven't slept, Im about to go to bed, I've read this 3 times so far now but I'm too tired to be positive (takes effort not to be an asshole, sadly).

1.) Double Unit CAs & Quads, and RAT drugs pose a risk of throwing the economy out of whack.

1a.) Perhaps It could be used for the non-big three drugs. So you can still deal your coke/heroin/barbs but if you see a good price where you are you can start a drug operation like an OC but you have to type the person's name in rather than it be listed & you have to select the right city.

2.) Would it be impacted by the drug dealing perk or the OC perk or a new perk?

3.) I am very lazy. I don't like people. Could we not have a new type of OC where you send some of your named BGs to a random city to secure the deal at a 20% loss due to costs, and then its RNG if they all survive or not or what price they get etc. Basically we have the BG feature, better trained ones would be good for this, and then I don't have to talk to people.

Report Post Tip

Trust me, I know all about the energy needed to interact with other people.

Your amendments are good, I honestly hadn't thought of them. I like the idea of using the bodyguards to do the footwork, but wouldn't that limit newer players? I'm sure BGs aren't cheap.

I haven't been around to experience the RAT thing, must be a new feature, its been quite awhile since I returned to these shores. I can't really comment on how it effects game balance in any credible way.

Just as a recently returned player, it seemed like more could be done with drug dealing.

Oh and if it had to be impacted by a perk, then the drug dealing perk makes the most sense.

Report Post Tip

If you're active in lounge you have a chance of getting loaded BG race with another user from a different family active in your city - so basically a free BG already max level.

Also if you think about it from a roleplay perspective anyone undermade wouldn't have the connections really to do deals like this around the country, so you'd have at least 11 days to train up a few which is doable if your aim is to immediately be a beast at it.

But for the sake of argument - you can send up to 2 BGs based on your rank, and then based on your actual drug units/level you can network and have "Support" in the city to get a larger cut of the cash, and maybe a slightly reduced time on the next one?

That way my antisocial ass isn't limited, but those who are not goblins of the deep have incentive to involve others and reach out etc.

But this raises the next question - can anyone be that phone a friend or do we limit it like we do OCs where they have to be from that city or your city? I like the idea of it being your city only, to start getting more chatter in the City itself.

Report Post Tip
Ohhhhh I really like that idea actually. You're right that could work if we can use the BGs that way.

I think it should just work the way OCs work just because it'd be easier to code probably. Or maybe like the nearest city at max. Like say if the flight is only 3 hours away you should still be able to phone them and ask for help setting up that deal.

I think the BG thing is a good thing to possibly implement here, but the deeper working together would be good for the next version, to be honest.

Report Post Tip

hopefully admin sees this and offer their thoughts.

Report Post Tip

Fulmineo I have been following and I am not weighing in so that I can see every ones thoughts and interest natively without any intervention.

Report Post Tip
I like the idea would add something new and engaging
Report Post Tip

Squishy, Oh dope! I love that you guys let it grow organically. I just want more comments so we can see more perspectives. Clearly I think it would be fun but I'm new so I can be wrong.

Report Post Tip
NPCs need to be used for more than just whacks and rebuilds etc there should be an NPC market for drugs and businesses I sound like a broken record but I wanna see MR take the leap.
Report Post Tip
Having NPCs to compete against, especially in the drug market would definitely make things more challenging. Could definitely add more spice
