There’s just something special about firing up Command & Conquer: Generals – Zero Hour. The music, the voice lines, the base-building chaos. It always takes me back to those late nights spent figuring out how to outplay friends who were way too good at the game. If you're revisiting it or trying it out for the first time, here are some tricks I picked up over the years. Nothing fancy, just real stuff that helped me win a few battles and survive longer. Things That Helped Me in Zero Hour 1. Start strong with your economy I always focus on money first. USA needs two Chinooks at the Supply Center right away. For China, I get the supply trucks moving fast. GLA should get workers and tunnels near cash spots as soon as possible. 2. Don't sit still too long I used to build too many defenses and sit back, thinking I was safe. Big mistake. I prefer to send out units early to harass the enemy’s supply lines. It keeps the pressure on and buys me time. 3. Play to your general’s strengths When I go with the Air Force General, I rush King Raptors. For the Tank General, it's all about early Battlemasters. Each general has its own playstyle, and learning that made a big difference. 4. Keep producing It’s easy to forget about your buildings during a fight. I make it a habit to keep my War Factory and Barracks busy at all times. Idle buildings mean you're falling behind. 5. Balance your units I used to focus only on tanks. Then I’d get wiped out by air attacks. Later I mix it up, tanks, anti-air, and infantry for backup. A balanced army lasts longer. 6. Use shortcuts to build fast Hotkeys changed how I play. Here are a few I always use: G = garrison T = tank F = factory P = power plant W = selects all War Factories They help a lot when things get hectic. 7. Scout early One of my favorite tricks is sending out a fast unit or drone to check what the enemy is doing. Knowing what’s coming gives you a big edge. 8. Use superweapons smartly Instead of firing my Particle Cannon as soon as it’s ready, I wait. Hitting their power supply or wiping out an army on the move feels a lot better than just destroying a Supply Center. 9. GLA tunnel spam I like building tunnels across the map. It gives me easy movement and lets me surprise enemies from weird angles. 10. USA drone scouting Don’t sleep on those drones. I always pop one over the enemy base to watch what they’re building. It’s cheap and effective. Final Thoughts Zero Hour still hits the spot after all these years. It’s more than just a strategy game, it’s a battlefield where every move counts.
