| A Ridiculous Notion | Started by: Mistletoe on May 11, '25 22:38 |

Mistletoe had taken a while to warm up to the fashion of this age. Her closet was filled with more reserved dresses, skirts, and blouses. She held no ill will towards any of the women who were partaking in the flapper society. Yet, recently, she was starting to have this itch. This craving for something new and fun. Every time she walked past this shop with the dresses those young women were wearing, one in particular would catch her eye. It was navy blue, with silver beaded embroidery, and long blue tassels. She thought surely one of these days someone would buy that dress and this silly desire would fade away, but every day she walked by, and it was still there. She also wasn't fond of short hair, and while that wasn't a requirement, it was all the rage for those embracing this look. Mistletoe preferred her longer, curled hair. Staring at the dress in the window, she could imagine herself still looking great with her hairstyle now, but with that dress on. "Such a ridiculous notion," She said to herself and walked away from the shop again. Her heartstrings began to tug again, she wanted to embrace a wilder side. Thoughts came rushing into her head about what people would think, what they would say, and where she would even wear the dress. She didn't go out on the town often, although her recent visit to that jazz hall was enjoyable. She could wear the dress there again and maybe talk someone into actually joining her at the jazz club. She then questioned why she should even care what people think or what they would say. She pouted with a frustrated look on her face. Why was it so normal to feel bad about wanting what you wanted? Isn't life worth going after what you want, no matter what? Wouldn't a life with taking chances, even if you may regret them later, be better than not ever taking them at all? Mistletoe stopped walking, she was now multiple blocks away from the shop. She turned on her heels and began walking with more purpose back towards the shop with the blue dress. She wanted it and she was going to buy it! It was obviously meant for her, as it never sold and was still there for her to see day in and day out. The dress belonged to her the moment she laid eyes on it. Ridiculous notions were something she was going to entertain more often. She reached the shop in record time, especially in heels, and walked straight in. The doorbell rang, and the shop owner greeted her. The smile on the owner's face grew bigger when she realized it was Mistletoe. "So you're finally here for that blue dress?" Mistletoe's expression was that of surprise. How could this woman know she was here for the dress? "Sweetie, you've been eyeing it for weeks. You didn't think I would notice?" The owner walked over to the stand with the dress on it and began to remove it. "I made sure to save it just for you." Mistletoe's expression changed from surprised to shocked then to a soft smile from the warm gesture. The reason the dress never sold was that this lady knew one day she'd walk in and buy it, she kept it just for her. It was a nice feeling. "I'll need to get your measurements to see if any adjustments need to be made, but we'll have you in and out with your new dress in no time!" She wasn't lying when she said she would have Mistletoe in and out in no time. The dress only needed a small adjustment for her chest, but otherwise it was meant to be worn by her. The lady even said that herself when sizing her. They thanked one another for the help and the business. Yet, now Mistletoe was back on the street, grinning from cheek to cheek, and looking forward to the evening, she would don a new version of herself. |
