We are gathered here because we have experienced way too much ineptness. Business has been burnt to the ground. Senseless bloodshed. Leaders and their hands not giving a flying rat about you. Sadly we did lose a couple amazing leaders.

Moving on, there is no need to select anyone of the crews available. Although I am certain two can be an upstanding leader but there is no telling what one of them will do based on their history. And the other determines their fate. Outside of that, we have remnants of the squad. Oh and we have a bias one too.

I would like to see great leadership return to these shores. Leaders who will not sell you out. Leaders who place their crew first.

That's all for now.

I think we need to consider a return for the HMS Friendship.

It would certainly get my vote.

Can we dive a bit deeper here by exploring what makes a great leader?

Or if "placing their crew first" is the summary, what does that mean in practice?

If an idea of leadership is being watered down long enough, at some point maybe no one recognizes what it initially was. It's fairly easy to identify what we don't want, where we want to move away from. But establishing where we want to go is more challenging, leave alone actually getting there.

So let me ask again TDT, what do you think makes a great leader that can make the difference?

Well SydBarrett selecting a leader is just as important as buying a bra with that perfect fit. If you do not know what that entails, trust me I do. All jokes aside, the ideal leader places their crew first. They do not sell them out nor do they hold a blind eye when one of their people are killed.

The ideal leader engages with their crew and city. An ideal leader can think for themselves.  An ideal leader can tell another Joe blow to worry about their crew and stay out of their business. You know the "you better watch them" nonsense.  When in fact they talk out their ass. That's very common on these shores.

The ideal leader makes certain to establish a relationship with all of their crew members. Not just the select few in a damn coffee shop. The ideal leader trusts until given a reason not to trust.

The ideal leader must know and recognize they are nothing without their crew. And ideal leader easily maintains a happy and active crew.

Now I have been told politics plays a crucial roll in this thing of ours. However there were zero politics for the last three years.

I would happily see city set up homeless shelters but on the terms that the people can't have had relatives that were hands or leaders in the last month at least and being part of what has led to the clusterfuck as many people just seem to spectate not worried as leaders die.

On one side the homeless shelters are not part of the war so retain people, and people can work and find their place in society til peace and stability arrive.   My warning though is even if a mass leadership change, many will re-auth the sons and daughters to rebuild the same regime thats been partially deposed.  So if you like the loop of nothing changing, keep going on your wheel little gerbil and if you are sure a new regime is better, most are just the same ideas, with a different list of targets as victims.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, TDT.

There are some things I agree more or less with. I won't dissect each bit, but I like to focus on where you say a leader “makes certain to establish a relation with all of their members”.

In a way that would be great, but maybe that's not what we should expect, nor is it scalable. Sure, basic social interactions should be there, some interest goes a long way and will greatly help with motivation and loyalty.

But in any organisation there are goals, typically make money and ensure continued operations. A leader should act according to their goals, which means working both internally and externally. To make sure internally everything goes according to plan, they direct. Here trust comes into play, they should invest and trust in key members that establish the relations with the rest of the family.

This creates growth and learning opportunities for hands and Mades, increases crew interaction, instead of just member to leader communication and opens the door to more and meaningful relations, rather than shallow ones due to lack of time.

For family leaders, now being freed up more, this also creates the opportunity to work externally, which is important for their public standing. Now this part is challenging, but might be key to increasing trust. It's not only about maintaining relations with other cities, but actually spending time and energy to evolve what happens on this side of the law.

This evolution is important. I haven't spent much time on these shores recently, but it's easy to pick up that the status quo where people aren't shooting each other, also is not the place they want to be. Maintaining the status quo is perhaps a bigger risk for a leader than going out there and making an impact.

This is a big topic to discuss, so there's always more to say. I'll let you get some thoughts in first though, otherwise this becomes a monologue instead of a conversation. We don't want people falling asleep.

@SydBarret it is ideal and very scalable. Yes you get the occasional Spike spy and those are easily detected, (nobody is surprised) but I assure my kin has been a part of some awesome leaders who made that dream possible. Great crew and city vibes. My kin has done the same.

As I overlook at all of the faces who are out here, and some I know to be best suited in leadership and not just the ones who had a kin in bold. Way to many never had the opportunity. But that has always been the theme since it's existence.

The current lot will say we gave new people a chance. How many though? Two? And the rationale behind giving them a chance? We know.

I agree the evolution s very important. It is not happening. Not yet anyway.
