Perpignan, France. 4th of December 1935. That was the day she was born... and ultimately abandoned. "A true monster. Absolute psychopath. She didn't care for anything or anyone." "I've heard the rumors. She is a sadistic lunatic." "I-I-I'm sorry... I don't know anything..." "Don't even get me started. She always wore an expressionless face. I swear. No emotion whatsoever." That's all they had to say about her after the... Incident... Nothing more, nothing less. At the age of 17, she joined the military and at the age of 19, she was accepted into a Special Operations team. There, she learned almost everything there was about combat. She trained excessively. No breaks, no family visits, nothing. She didn't have anything else to live for. She was always quiet. Always emotionless. Always... Empty. No matter how many of her uppers screamed at her when she did something wrong, she always remained quiet and listened, redoing her task usually with much more success than the first time. One day, seeing her proficiency and precision with the rifle as well as her cold demeanor, a comrade made her an offer. "Some of my friends don't like what the mayor is doing these days. They say he is a nuisance to them..." The man stopped and looked around him before proceeding. "7pm Saturday. I want you to make it his last speech. He'll be holding it down at the town center. I'll reward you with 70k." he said as he pulled out a fat envelope. He didn't expect her to accept so easily but he was stunned, as she snatched the envelope and locked it in her drawer. "Hey you better do it!" he said. He didn't truly believed she was as bold as she seemed. But now, he was about to find out. She patiently waited until Saturday, acting as she always did. Cold and focused. She kept up with her training. When Friday came, she asked to take the weekend off. Having never requested leave before, the uppers accepted without any arguments. Saturday morning came, and it was time to prepare. She snuck into the base's armory and smashed one of the lockers, grabbing a scoped rifle before disassembling it and putting it into a suitcase. She then put the suitcase in her bag and walked out through the front door after notifying her captain. This was a decision that would forever change the trajectory of her life. She took a taxi to the town's center, then got to the roof of a hotel just across the already set up podium. Now? She played the waiting game... |

Perpignan, France. 5th of March, 7:19pm. Screams. Chaos. Panic. As a high caliber bullet went right through the mayor's eye and pierced his brain, making a bloody mess over the stand, as well as splashing the front row of listeners. What was once a speech about progress made on stopping all the illegal cigarette smuggling, had turned into a gruesome scene of horror. An image that's now forever engraved in everyone's consciousness. Everyone was in distress. Police quickly responded as panic flooded the streets. People were running around, scared for their lives. Soon, police officers stormed every single building that was even remotely close to the area, but no leads. Zero. No one had seen anything, no one had heard anything. As for the killer? It was too late. She was already on a small wooden boat in a lake, wiping the serial number off. She then dumped the rifle in the lake, with the same suitcase she got it with and got back into town. People were still being questioned on the street and fear was still in the air. As she was walking, an officer approached her. "Excuse me ma'am. Did you happen to see any suspicious individuals this evening? Or perhaps hear anything unusual?" She stood there, eyeing him. Not a single word came out of her mouth. Just... Silence. "Umm... Are you OK? You look a little... off..." The woman extended her arms and offered them to him as if she was mocking him to arrest her. The officer didn't like her attitude, and searched her.. All he found was a wallet, with 5 euros in it and her military ID. He didn't want any trouble from the army, so he was quick to let her go. "Ahem... Please be on your way." She got her wallet back and kept walking. The town was almost ghosted. The city had gotten into a state lockdown as residents peeked from their windows. No soul dared to go outside and the only ones outside were the police. Figuring she'd stick out, she went to the first hotel she could find and booked a room for the time she'd be on leave... |

After this, things wouldn't be the same. Rumors started to spread throughout the barracks, and no one would talk around her. Not even her employer. Her reputation was already very bad, as she was seen as this silent soldier who never spoke. However, this would be the cherry on top. As word got around that a rifle went missing from the base's armory, the people were convinced that it was a soldier who was the culprit. Perpignan was a small place, and everyone knew everyone. All of the soldiers were loved by everyone. Except one... The bad apple... The black sheep... Claudia. They hardly knew who she was. Her habit of never speaking unless spoken to was not doing her any favors in this case. They were outraged. They demanded she went to jail. Some even went as far as sending mails to the president. The Police launched an official investigation in order to calm them down. Unfortunately, they could not gather enough evidence to make an arrest, and so, the case was dropped. People were furious, as that mayor was "one of the good ones" as they said. The public demanded that she "in the very least" be discharged and if not, they'd protest right outside of the base in order for their voice to be heard. The general was forced to call a meeting with her. He knew she was a good soldier, but he could not risk his reputation. He wanted to keep his position. And so, he did what was asked of him, ending Claudia's career as a military woman, forever changing the course of her life... For the worst. After she got out, everyone was at least a few feet away. Sure, they voted for her discharge, but nobody dared to confront her face to face. Shops would refuse to do business with her (unless she threatened them of course) and no one would hire her for anything. This was a life no one could even begin to live. An outcast. Maybe even worse. Seeing that she was not wanted anymore, she got on the first plane to America, with her baggage being a few clothes and her 70k. A new life that she never thought she'd live, and a new place she'd never thought she'd end up in... |
