The Hat-Trick Rises (1927–1936)

They weren’t just a crew. They were a formula.

— Vito was the brain: silent, dangerous, the eye of every storm.
— Joe was the fire: brawler, protector, chaos in a suit.
— Rosie was the smoke: the vanish, the speed, the steel under the silence.

Together, they joined up with the Fonticielli Outfit, a mid-level mafia family trying to survive between the big sharks: Marinelli, Bellantoni, and Grasso. Fonticiellis weren’t rich. But they were tight. The Hat-Trick became their ace. The jobs got cleaner. Riskier. Bigger.

Rosie drove everything from whiskey trucks to ambulances, and when things got hot? She picked up the tommy gun and turned getaways into warzones. It was never about glory. Never about greed. For Rosie, the job was motion. As long as she was driving, she didn’t have to stop and remember the bodies.

First Job, First Blood (August 15th, 1928, Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, NY.)

It was supposed to be simple.

A numbers house in Brooklyn was holding out on kick-ups, backed by some independent toughs. Don Ricci wanted it settled without a headline. Just fear and fire. Vito called it “The Sunday Stroll,” and the name stuck.

Joe was inside muscle — smiling, card-playing, always with a blade in his boot. Rosie scouted the alley routes and backdoor timings like a general. Vito? He played conductor, calling moves like jazz notes on the fly.

They hit at dusk. Rosie waited in a beat-up Nash with a souped-up engine, watching through a cracked side mirror. Joe got the door open with a charm and a borrowed name, and five minutes later, Vito kicked it in with a snub-nose .38 and a smoke clenched between his teeth.

The cash was easy. The warning was fire — they lit the ledgers in the office and left the front windows glowing like hell’s own confessional.

Back in the car, laughing and bleeding just a little, Rosie asked, “We good?”

Vito looked over his shoulder as the cops whirred past them — the other way.

“We’re ghosts, Rosie,” he grinned. “And ghosts don’t pay tolls.”
