The Making of Three Ghosts

District: Bronx | Date: May 19, 1938

You don’t get made on charm. You get made on blood. And when Don Ricci handed Vito a slip of paper at the back of a cigar lounge, the tone in the room shifted like storm weather.

Three names. One job. A cleanup crew gone rogue, skimming from the Don’s bootleg routes and leaving bodies behind. The message needed to be final. Public. Loud in the right places.

Vito ran point. He chose midnight at the docks. Joe handled recon — he’d already played cards with one of the targets and knew who sipped gin slow. Rosie brought the hardware and a black Packard so quiet you could hear the harbor breathing.

The hits came quick. Surgical. Vito dropped the first with a shot to the gut. Joe took the second with a garrote in the mist. The third tried to run — Rosie clipped his knees from the bumper and ended it herself.

They burned the coats. Cleaned the barrels. Drove in silence.

The next day, Don Ricci greeted them not with thanks, but with a toast. Wine from his cellar. Three glasses. One for each name he'd added to the book that night.

“Rosalina Rosario. Vittorio Alonzo Scatino. Joseph Mario Muzzuco,” he said. “From this day, you are not helpers. You are brothers. And sister.”

Made. Not for what they did — but because they never flinched.

A Celebration in Silence

They didn’t throw a party. They weren’t the party type. Instead, Vito brought a bottle of real French brandy to a back booth in Sal’s Taproom and laid out three glasses like medals.

Joe raised his fist. “To us. To the ghosts.”

Rosie only nodded. Her hand was still bandaged from the last job. Vito didn’t say much, but his eyes lingered long on the other two. No one else in the city knew who they were now — but they did.

Three orphans of the street. One brother, one sister, one hammer of a friend. And now, for better or worse, bound in blood.
