Bandito Treasure Hunt Results and Answers! Started by: Valmont on Mar 28, '12 05:06

Valmont walks to the street corner where the $25,000,000 Treasure Hunt dinner party fliers had been handed out. Through out the past days he and many others had frequented the corner several times and he had grown fond of it. He had made the announcement a day earlier that he would be coming back out to announce the winners of the competition and a small crowd had already begun to gather. As the crowd begins to focus on him, he tacks up a piece of paper to a nearby light stand then hops onto the back of a nearby fruit truck to address the crowd.

Ladies and Gentlemen, thank you all for coming today. I am here today to give you the results of the Bandito Treasure Hunt competition that took place in the last few days. First I want to say that it was so much fun running this competition. I hope that everybody had a great time.

Now, to the moment you all have been waiting for. The winners. It took a decent amount of time for the first person to finally reach the Bandito Mansion’s Basement, but the first individual still finished several hours ahead of the 2nd and 3rd contestants. Congratulations to…..

1st Place: SammyGarcini Time: 10h 20min Prize: $10,000,000

The second two contestants came sliding in one after the other each with a magnifying glass in hand. Both of which swore it aided in each step of the puzzle.

2nd Place: WhereWasI Time: 27h 23min Prize: $5,000,000

3rd Place: PoisonousJelly Time: 27h 24min Prize: $5,000,000

Congratulations to the three winners and to all contestants that were able to decipher the first clue in the streets and make it to the mansion! Well Done! Now for the final award. The best RP!

Valmont Takes an envelope out of his back pocket.

This award was discussed amongst myself, Technical, and Jessie. After a lot of deliberation we eventually were all able to come to an agreement. We would also like to mention that there was a lot of good RP out there. Everyone did a great job, but, the award goes to…

Best RP: Jordan Prize: $5,000,000

I want to thank everyone for A great competition. We all had a lot of fun running this for you guys. I hope you all had a lot of fun playing!

Now, finally, The answers to each puzzle.

#1 The Letter.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
.--. .-.. . .- ... . / -- . ... ... .- --. . / ...- .- .-.. -- --- -. - / - --- / -... . / .--. .-.. .- -.-. . -.. / --- -. / - .... . / --. ..- . ... - /
If you look closely at the bottom line of the letter decoration, it is actually Morse code which states “Please message Valmont to be placed on the guest list”
#2 The Password.
If you messaged me to be placed on the guest list you were told to come to the Bandito Family Mansion in the Detroit business district and given the password Rot-13. Rot-13 is a cipher (Google it) which decodes the 2nd post in the Mansion where the 3rd Clue was left.
#3 The Riddle
“Wolfgang emigrated from South Italy, and settled in Boston three years ago. Wolfgang who barely spoke English, was determined to earn money to send to his wife. He was a baker by profession, and after two years, 14 days and one a month he finally owned his own store. Although his English was broken, he always had a good word and a joke. One morning, a delivery man found Wolfgang lying on the floor of the bakery... Dead. His right hand held a small gun... and there was a letter right next to his other hand. Enclosed in the letter, another piece of paper falls out, it’s a suicide note, it reads "I had almost obtained my goal of reunification to my wife... now it will be sooner than I thought. I have lost all my will to live." Going on to read the letter, you read that Wolfgangs wife has been killed in a motor accident. Now, this was no suicide... It was murder. How do you know this, what proves it was murder?”
As most who got this far could prove, You could tell that it was murder because Wolfgang was an immigrant and was unable to speak English fluently, thus he would have been unable to write such a well written note.  If you got that correct you were given a note from me and told to meet us in N.O. at a local “Jazz Club” playing Glenn Miller’s “In the Mood”
#4 The Carvings
If you were able to make it to the right bar, you found that before you had entered I had come in earlier with Jessie_Pinkman to scribble this bit of Binary Code.
Which Translated to the message. “Have a drink then head back to the Mansion to find Jessie. He's quoted "I see the treasure"
#5 The Goose and the Carful Gander
This was by far our hardest clue, and most appropriately, our last.
The part about going back to the mansion in the previous clue was a wild goose chase to throw you off the main part of the clue which was “Jessie. He’s Quoted…I….Can See the Tresure”
Quoted meaning his Quote. I meaning the letter I. and Can See the Treasure  implying that it would lead you to the treasure. That being said if you scanned though the letters in Jessies profile and looked carefully you would eventually stumble upon an “I” which was linked to the final Back alley thread, The Bandito Basement where the treasure was being kept.
After a while we also put up a teaser hint in which Jessie traveled back from the Mansion to the Bar and watched the contestant’s coming through. Again the “I” in this post was linked to Jessie’s profile. A hint to where the last link was.
Anyways that’s it everybody. I hope you all enjoyed playing as much as I enjoyed running this. Congrats again to all the winners! If you have any feedback we would love to have it!
Valmont, exhausted from the long speech steps down from the fruit truck and begins to walk away from the crowd down the street, where he is picked up by a driver in a Rolls which carts him off.
WhereWasI starts shaking fist,
How did DeadlySin lose?!?
On a more serious note, fantatstic competition, easily the best I've ever participated in. It clearly took a lot of time and effort to put together and I hope you make another, obviously not expecting another in the near future though.
Report Post Tip
I'd like to reiterate WWI's comment there. Though I didnt find the time to participate, I saw some of the correspondence between yourself and the Scouse lord laying on his desk and I had a peek. It certainly seemed like a terrific contest that would have been a lot of fun.
My grandmother tried to run something similar when she was at the helm in Detroit, but alas it never got off the ground. I hope to see another contest of its kind in the not too distant future. If I could offer one piece of critique; maybe set the starting date a few days ahead of the announcement? Otherwise folk that aren't around when you announce the contest are less likely to get involved, as they will "assume" that they are behind in the race and not worth trying
Clearly anyone that felt this way on this occassion would have been wrong as the contest took everyone a fair bit of time to complete and so there was ample opportunity to catch up, but that wouldn't have prevented people making that wrong assumption that it wasn't worth trying.
Other than though, as I said already, fantastic effort.
Is there going to be another Treasure hunt anytime soon?
Technical walks out to where a few people were talking on the streets and overheard a few views on the Competition that the Last of the Banditos hosted and acknowledged Fozzie's well thought out point and says to Fozzie.
Good point Fozzie, we will have to put a date scheduled next time to allow a warning next time.
Technical turns to _K-Nynes_ and addresses his question.
_K-Nynes_ it depends on what the community as a whole decides. If the Community wants another one done in the future they have everything right to express that to us.
Wondered how WhereWasI keeps escaping his cage.
WhereWasI, your skills are impressive, we appreciate your kind words on what work was put into the competition. Valmont has done a very wonderful job.
Fozzie, you pose a legitimate point, one that started to become evident to me and more people joined the competion after just waking up several were already on to the 4th clue. I think next time we will make sure to let everyone in the streets know that we will be holding something like this, that way everyone who wants a fair shot, can have one.
WhereWasI, thank you for the kind words. Its things like that which encorages us to come up with more fun stuff like this!
K-Nynes, as Technical said, if we get a lot of good responce from this we will certainly consider doing something similar again. Another time around would give me a chance to refine some things, and fix some of the kinks that made themselves apparent as the competition went along.
I had a great time! Thanks for doing this and I vote a big, enthusiastic "YES" to more puzzles and more games in the future.
Seeing the results, Voods smacks his fist into his open hand. DAMMIT! he cries, coming to the realisation that he had almost got the final clue early on, but had skimmed over the details. Walking up to Valmont, he takes his hand and shakes it vigorously.
Well can I say what I fantastic job you did here. I myself enjoyed every moment of this hunt, even if I didn't win. Well done for getting the streets abuzz! I look forward to a next one, which I'm sure I will get lost on again!
Jessie heads out into the street smoking a joint...
A black limo stopped at the street corner where Valmont made the big announcement. Jordan got out of the back of the limo and dazzled the crowd with a big smile. The gorgeous Don looked stunning wearing a pin stripe dress and fedora. A Tommy gun and cigar completed the look.
As the crowd gathered around Jordan hundreds of bodyguards mysteriously appeared and surrounded the gorgeous Don. “It’s okay, fellas.” She told the wall of well trained bodyguards and gestured to the crowd. “They’re friends of mine. I mean, friends of ours. No, not yours. You know what the fuck I mean! Just back up and give me room to breathe.”
The bodyguards parted like the red sea and the gorgeous Don walked towards an old abandoned soap box. They were no longer the trend for mobsters, but Jordan stepped up on it anyway.
“Ladies and gentlemen, thank you all for being here.” Jordan began the speech she rehearsed the night before in front of a mirror at home in her pin stripe pajamas. “I was so honored when I got a telegram from Technical about the prize I won. There are so many people I want to thank. First, thank you to The Banditos for arranging the treasure hunt. A lot of work went into it and it promoted my favorite thing about this thing of ours.” Jordan smiled and waved at one of the Banditos in the crowd.
“Next, I must thank my Godmother Clarity for giving me wings to fly. Without her friendship I wouldn’t be where I am today. Thank you to Mayor Xiphos for being my best friend forever and sending me inspirational poetry I read while drinking my morning coffee. Reading about death is always a great way to start the day.”
“I also have to thank the staff of my legit businesses, the superb waiters at the Manhattan Restaurant, the two crazy old ladies who run the Angel City Bakery and the former owner of my Pawn Shop, Nick, who I wacked the day I took it over.” Jordan took a flask out of her fashionable little pin stripe purse and raised it to the sky. “Rest in peace, Nicky.” She took a drink of whiskey from the flask and added, “God rest his soul.”
“Last but not least, to everyone who takes time to go to the business districts, thank you. I‘m a big fan of doing business in our businesses.”
The gorgeous Don stepped off the old soap box and picked up the suitcase that contained her five million dollar prize. The greedy gang of bodyguards waited for her to hand it over for their training, but Jordan had other plans. “Take me to the airport.” She told her loyal bodyguard, Daniel who was her driver. “I’m going to take a private flight to Philly for a shopping spree with my dear sweet friend Liza."
