Ever since I was a young bambino, I wanted to be one of "them". You know them, the guys who wear those fancy suits and got the great looking dolls hanging on to their arms. The guys who never have to pay for their drinks or their meals. The guys who walk in to a bistro and never hafta wait for a table. I loved pretending to be a big importante man, but most of all, I was totally fixated how they would casually drop open their jacket and show someone the pistole and bam, any debate or argument was over. I wanted a pistole of my own. I wanted to be someone who used a pistole I wanted to be a hit man for the Don. Well, the years went by and I became friendly with a guy who knew a guy and before I knew it, I was introduced to him as someone who can be trusted. This guy was Made. He was one of "Them". I started doing some jobs for him now and then, after while he gave me some small collection jobs and one thing led to another and one day I was told to get in to the car, and found myself in the middle of a bank job. Mama Mia, I almost wet my pants and puked my guts out, but somehow I held together and when we hit the mattresses, the boss came by and gave me a hug and a huge wad of bills. "Demeter" he said, "you are a real man with balls, I can use you, why don't you join my associates". So I join his gang and spent all my time with them. Until that one day that one bastardo, one of the others, stabbed us in the back and tried to set us up to be wacked by the goombas from the east side. My boss was so angry, I swear, he was gonna pop a vein in his face.... Finally, he grabbed a gun, shoved it in my hand and told me to get the hell outta here and not come back till I filled that bastard with lead. |

Demeter paused to sip from his beer and looked at his watch. "Ah... I gotta get going, but I will finish the story the next time I step in for some vino and some of Mama Gina's baked linguine." |
