The jukebox in the corner clicked over to Creedence as TheDude shuffled up to the counter, cardigan hanging loose, thermos in hand. He cleared his throat like he was about to announce a presidential address, but what came out sounded more like a jazz riff. “Alright, cats, here’s the state of the lanes, straight from the horse’s mouth, though this horse had a few too many White Russians, ya dig? East Coast roll call: New York, now, that’s a mixed bag of bagels. TonyTheTailor stitched it all up tight; name, roster, threads; clean as a whistle. But Beluga, @Dixon’s right hand, hasn’t sent a postcard. Spicoli and FutureScare? Radio silence. Maybe they’re too busy catching waves or fighting nightmares. Who knows, man. Over in Philly, Shane_Stetson’s quieter than a church mouse in confession, and JohnnyTwinkleToes slipped me the entry fee but no roster, no name, no jersey... just a wink and a promise that Cyclone- would sort it. And as for DarwinRoss… well, that’s my own crew leader and BigEasy has been put on the case, so the Dude abides. West Coast shuffle: Los Angeles? Dean-Winchester and MaddyPerez got the cash in, but the rest? No team names, no rosters, no jerseys. Just the sound of the Santa Ana winds blowin’. Optimus and TruceFather; let’s just say it’s “all quiet on the Western front.” And Vegas… ah, Vegas. Land of neon, dice, and cheap promises. From Oblivion, Enzo_Favara, Indifference? Not a peep. City of sin’s takin’ a nap. So there it is, folks. Some dressed sharp, some in rags, some still dreamin’ about rollin’ instead of actually rollin’. But the lanes are waxed, the pins are standin’, and the prize pot’s fattenin’. Still time to step up, scribble down a name, throw together a team, maybe even iron out a jersey if you’re feelin’ fancy. ‘Cause remember, this ain’t just about knockin’ down pins, it’s about knockin’ down walls between crews, and maybe havin’ a laugh or two while we do it. Hoping to run the first round matches on 1st October.” |

After much deliberation, three thrown chairs, and an impromptu Arm Wrestling match. The Villains of Chicago had finally nailed down a team ready to take on the Gutter Saints Tournament. The Loop De Loops Classic buttoned bowling shirts with the team's logo stitched above the chest pocket. A spiralling handlebar mustache. The calling card of many villains before
"Ah shit, did we make it?" |

The neon flickered once, then settled into that holy amber-green glow as TheDude shuffled to the front, thermos in hand, cardigan sagging off his shoulder like it owed rent.

The jukebox clicked over to some dusty Creedence track as TheDude shuffled out again, slippers flapping. He set the thermos down with a clunk and rubbed his temples like he’d just seen a 7–10 split wink at him. “Saints preserve us… just when I thought we had this prize board nailed tighter than a lane bumper, Madoka goes and pulls a stunt. Not a lil’ stunt, mind you. No, this cat drops in a cool 100 credits, like it’s pocket change, and throws in a double CA for good measure. Now I don’t shock easy. Seen a lotta things in this hall: gutterball weddings, a strike rolled backwards, even a man bowl in house slippers. But this? This takes the holy rye biscuit. Means, of course, I gotta drag out the chalk and recalculate the damn prize pool… again. So here’s how we’re settlin’ it: those 100 new credits? They’re gettin’ split across the top four podium spots, heavy at the top, just the way the pin gods intended. And that shiny double CA? That’s stapled right onto 1st place, ‘cause if you’re King of the Alley, you might as well ride out with all the trimmings.”

WHERE WAS IT?! Ian tore through his office yet again, for the third time that afternoon. The piece of paper that he had been searching for could have been mistaken for trash and thrown out for all he knew, but it was paper-clipped to photographs of some pictures that he meant to slide along to TheDude. Another hour went by with no luck; he figured he would have to just forego showing the new uniforms to TheDude. The clock showed that it was almost time to head to the Bowling Center for practice anyway. With a sigh Ian opened the closet in his office to grab his bowling bag and as he lifted it a few loose pieces of paperwork fell. JACKPOT!
Success! Ian yelled out loud before heading out immediately to find TheDude |

Who needs three teams when one is going to be more than enough? Also, if we lose to the Stinky TomJoad Rovers from Chicago, someone is getting shot. |

Once Shane was done on his knees doing the deed, he got up off the church pew and finished praying. He had just confessed his sins in the confessional booth before heading to say his Hail Mary prayers. As soon as he got up, he left the church and met with TheDude. Shane grabbed an envelope with $500,000 and a folded paper with a note that read a list of names:
Team Name: Minds in the Gutter
"You know what to do this this," Shane said to TheDude. |

“Ladies and gentlemen, polish those balls and lace those shoes, because stepping onto the lanes tonight is none other than the team that brings grace, style, and a little sparkle to every strike… The 14-pound ball-busters.” One by one, the team struts in, showing off their signature entrances.
The five huddle up, raising their glitter-streaked bowling balls overhead like trophies. Whilst shouting, “Pins beware… The 14-pound ball-busters. Are here to turn you into dust!” |

The neon hummed like a tired hymn as TheDude shuffled out one last time, cardigan sagging, thermos in hand. He squinted over the lanes like a man about to read names off a gravestone. “Alright, cats ‘n kittens, this here’s last call. If you ain’t in now, you’re watchin’ from the cheap seats. From LA we’re still missin’ TruceFather. Now, don’t get twitchy. Those of you who paid the toll but didn’t cough up a roster, team name, or jersey? Don’t worry. We’ll slap one on you. Might not be flattering. Might come with sass. Hell, might come with rhinestones. But you’ll still be lacin’ up. You got a little time left to fix it before fate, and yours truly, makes the choice for you.” TheDude takes a long pull from his thermos, wipes his beard with his sleeve, and stabs a finger at the glowing prize board. “And while you were draggin’ your feet, some fellas were draggin’ their wallets. Big shout to TonyTheTailor, Optimus, and BigEasy; these gentlemen just heaved another $26.5 million into the prize pool. Means the pot’s ballooned bigger than a house shoe left in the dryer. Most of it’s hittin’ the Top 4, so the stakes just got fatter.” He smirks, then slaps a fresh sheet over the board. “Oh, and one more shiny trinket. We got ourselves a brand-new prize: a Quad CA. Now, rules of the alley state this beauty cannot fall into the greasy mitts of Matt; long story, don’t ask... so we’re callin’ it:
TheDude chuckles, shuffles his slippers against the floorboards, and raises his thermos. “Last call, saints. Get your rosters in, polish your shoes, and pray to the pin gods. The lanes are hungry, and the pot is fat. Don’t say I didn’t warn ya.”
“Now for you cats who like numbers more than neon — the bean-counters and the bookies, the pencil-pushers and the score-junkies — we got ourselves a spot where you can gawk at the league tables, score sheets, and all the grisly stats. Every strike, every spare, every poor sap who managed to foul three times in a row — it’s all there, carved in digital stone. Think of it like the alley’s holy scripture: the gospel according to the pin gods, written out in cold hard digits. You want proof your cousin bowled a 92 after braggin’ about hittin’ triples? This is where you go. You want to see who’s leading the charge for Strike Apostle or if your team’s sittin’ higher than you deserve? Same place. Links are gonna be slapped in down below, so wipe the wax off your fingers before clickin’ and remember — stats don’t lie, but TheDude reserves the right to make fun of ‘em.”

The door creaks open just as TheDude takes another sip from his thermos. A slow jazz riff meanders through the smoke stained air. In walks a crew like they own the joint, all wearing the same jackets. Leading the pack is a tall drink of trouble, sporting a crooked grin and a cigar that’s mostly ash. Dixxon steps forward, adjusts his fedora, and taps the bar with a single, deliberate knuckle. “Evening pal. Heard there’s a little rolling going down. Well... we’re here to make a scene, spill some pins, and maybe a little blood if the shoes fit.” He gestures back to the ragtag squad gathering behind him. “We call ourselves Frequently Useless Chucker Keeps Tossing Only Near Yours or, y'anno, FUCK TONY for short. It’s a long story, but let’s just say Tony owes us a lotta money and we ain’t great at letting things go.” A low chuckle rumbles through the group as he points to each teammate. Matt – “Our ‘strategist.’ Claims he’s got a mathematical system for strikes. So far it’s mostly just him yelling at the pins and blaming gravity.” Minaxi – “Once got banned from three alleys in one night, two for hustling, one for seducing the manager mid-frame. She bowls like she dances, smooth, dangerous, and always three steps ahead.” Twenty_Seven – "Mysterious, quiet type. Doesn’t talk much, but bowled a 300 once just to win a bet then disappeared for three weeks.” TinyTim – “Stands 4’7 in his socks, but bowls like he’s 10 feet tall. Wears custom shoes from the kids section and still manages to throw a hook that makes grown men reconsider their life choices. Never underestimate the compact ones.” Dixxon leans in with a grin and slaps a folded jersey on the counter. “Now, as for our look... black satin jackets, purple trim, and ‘FUCK TONY’ stitched bold on the back in gold cursive. Subtle like a Tommy gun in church.” He takes a sip from his own flask and raises it to TheDude. “So what do ya say, champ? Let’s make some noise, rattle some pins, and remind the East and West both why Brooklyn is the best" He turns to his crew. “C’mon, ya bums. Let’s roll.” |

The chatter of the punters in the recess area was interrupted by the initial click and immediate slamming of the alley’s front doors, causing everyone to jump and look over at the source of the noise. The force of the door slamming caused a steam outlet pipe in the ceiling to burst a few feet away, the cold chill of the air hitting hard in the face of the confused onlookers grimacing but straining their eyes to see the cause of the hubbub. As the pressure of the steam released subsided, the delegates from Los Angeles stood in the doorway, donning matching maroon jackets and stone-washed jeans, in an arrow formation, facing the crowd and filling the doorway. Wow, what a dramatic entrance. These guys must mean business! |

JudgeRoyBean’s dead. His place in PURGE needs filling.
The lights cut. Smoke pours. Glitter bombs misfire. A figure storms through the haze, dragging a hot dog cart behind him like a chariot.
I bring unto you… Peter THE WIENER WARLOCK.
The crowd leans in, expecting a rousing speech, some grand words to match the spectacle.
Fuck off, Matt. |

Presenting our team, The Deans. Wearing our black Captain Dean-Winchester, big brother, the leader of the team. Geralt, the stoic witcher with supreme athletic abilty. Korra, team beauty, she's definitely on the team for real reasons and not just to sandbag our handicap and distract opponents with her low-cut robes. Lilac, the nicest person in the world. No one will dare to beat her, because that would be mean. And rounding things out, Rico_Lansky, the young phenom X factor who will turn the tides. Oh, and lets not forget the equipment manager and head ball polisher, Grimes. No one shines those balls quite like he does. |

Korra sighs loudly as she trudges in after the team. The harsh neon lights made her squint as she was still recovering from a late night out. How did this always happen? Why did she get roped into this? Was she even going to qualify since Dean quite literally yeeted out of the crew to take care of TruceFather after this event started? She pinches the bridge of her nose as she looks down, grimacing at her spilling cleavage. No one else had their robe altered - this was bullshit. Promising herself she'd make Geralt pay for this later she put on her best fake smile and perused the bowling balls. Korra wasn't really into sports of any kind, but she was decent at bowling.. especially if she got a couple drinks in her first. Her hand stilled over a bright pink bowling ball, picking it up and testing the weight. Yes, she could work with this. She'd just have to test her self-restraint not to throw it at Geralt's head. Money. Think of the money. Revenge could wait. She turned to Grimes, handing him the ten pounds of hot pink before patting the side of his face. Be a doll and shine this for me, will you? I'm off to the bar until this gets started. |

The neon buzzed overhead like it was keeping secrets, and TheDude shuffled out with that slow grin, thermos dangling.
“Now just when I thought the prize board couldn’t get any fatter, in swoops @Illuminated, all mysterious-like, trench coat collar up, whisperin’ numbers in the shadows. Drops 20 fresh credits in the pot like it’s a pocketful of loose change.
Don’t ask me where he got ‘em, don’t ask me why. All I know is the lanes just got shinier than Vegas on a Sunday morning. That makes the pool so rich, I swear the pins are startin’ to stand a little straighter outta respect.
So I hope you all been stretchin’ your backs, polishin’ your balls, and prayin’ to whatever pin-gods you got… ‘cause this ain’t no warm-up game anymore.
The time’s up, saints. Grab your shoes, grab your rosters, and get your heads right, the first round showdown is about to kick off. And lemme tell ya… the gutters are hungry.” |

The smoke still lingered, glitter stuck to the lane boards like herpes on a cheap motel sheet. The hot dog cart sat parked, buns still steaming, Peter already puffing on his cigar like the world owed him rent. The team gathered round. It was time.
Julietta-Megani … tonight you’re not just another bowler. You’re a pin-purging machine. As Rocky said, ‘It ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.’ So purge every pin like DarwinRoss purging his entire contact list.
FatTony… listen here. You’re the man who stares down balut without blinking. As Scarface once said, ‘Say hello to my little friend.’ Well your little friend is fifteen pounds and covered in grease, and you’re gonna send it straight through those pins.
Peter… you’re not just slinging hot dogs anymore. You’re slinging destiny. Remember what Gladiator said: ‘What we do in life echoes in eternity.’ So make sure eternity hears the sound of pins exploding like ketchup packets under your cart.
Natasha… they might say you’re a guy but all I see is the biggest set of balls in this league. To quote The Matrix: ‘There is no spoon.’ There’s only your balls, and they’re about to wreck the lane.
The room went quiet. I looked across at my team, fire in their eyes, smoke curling round their heads like a halo.
We can lose to anyone. We can fall in the gutter. We can drown in whiskey. But what we can never do is lose to Matt. So remember one thing…
Fuck off, Matt. And take your inbred, cross-eyed, web-footed band of halfwits with you.
Round 1 defeat awaits you. |

There are several things which do not come as a surprise to me:
There is no I in team, after all. But there is a Big Si and a Slim in Big Si's HeadCoach Memorial All Stars and that was probably crucial to our success. Captain and Vice Captain inspiring hearts and minds. The Detroit way. Get shit on, Philly dorks. Onto the next. High fives all round. Drinks are on WaffleStompingChamp in lieu of him buying bodyguards. |

Having thought about what I just said, I was probably a little harsh on the dorks from Philly as we weren't even against them. I should probably have directed the shit at Los Angeles, Ennis- in particular for that terrible performance, as it was their boys we gave an almighty beating to. I won't apologise to Philly thought because it is a landscape steeped in high levels of dorkery and we'll probably be crushing them too in the near future. |

Johnny twirled around on his twinkly toes in what could only be described as a dance with grace. He smiled at his adoring fans as they chanted his team's name........ Victory had been theirs.
Making his way to the bar he asks the tender for a dry martini and sits to watch the rest of the games play out. |
