Order and Chaos Started by: Faceman on Apr 06, '12 20:42

Faceman strolls up casually to a point in the streets where he fills he can be heard

I like to think that i'm a quiet person, keeping myself to myself and so on but every now and then i like to speak up, these are the ideas i offer to you...

The words order and chaos can be applied to many different things, and in some ways they are opposites and in some ways they are completely the same, you may here fellow mobsters say chaos is order or order is chaos which does make me think how different are the two?
In the current climate you all may think this is irrelevant and there are things of greater importance to be spoken about, but hear me out.
Imagine a place where everything is so different and chaotic  that it makes sense and there is some sort of order? Say for example in a war there is fighting, killing and alot of bad words said, amongst all this chaos there are all the people who are organising this chaos so it plays out well for what they believe to be right for themselves, their city or whatever they plan, thus creating order (as they see it)...
and on the flipside, and usually when order is chaos there is some higher power organising this order, disagreements will be made, lives will be taken as a result, not ideal, but it creates chaos.

I suppose what I am getting at, is there a balance? and more importantly can that balance be maintained? if it can will you therefore be able to create the perfect atmosphere for you and your order/ chaos to exist efficiently? Or is it just and endless cycle, created, reaches a climax and is destroyed for the benefit of others, providing oppurtunity and a fresh start for many to only be destroyed again.

Faceman ahngs around to hear what other people have to say

As long as people want to achieve things for themselves theres always going to be chaos. Some people manage the chaos better than others and inevitably achieve more. You could probably even define the longevity of some people by their ability to suppress and manage the chaos created by others. This happens daily behind the scenes and while the surface almost always looks like theres order its almost never the case.

Depending on how leniently you define 'order' you could say it only exists in bursts until the proverbial straw breaks the camels back and sends everything into a chaotic tailspin. It wouldn't be any fun if it were any other way though and surely I'm not the only one who feels that way.

Order is a very strong word, i think people can assume it's associated with a dictatorship or something of the sort. This implies ruling with an iron fist, again i could be speaking for no one but what i think, I feel order is a from of control but not complete control, it is more an understanding between a community of people, others will think differnetly, No one can never tell anyone what they will think without truly crushing them psychologically, without ripping the truth from things.

I agree also that order lasts for a short period f time, depending on the circumstances this is. People may thrive off of the two situatuons and these are people who will make their ambitions reality in my opinion

A very nice point of veiw there Faceman i would go with thje endless cycle thats repeated over and over again as we all know the top dogs of today are the fish food of tomorrow its the way it is and always will be we are but mice doing the bidding of these gods of order and Chaos.

I think the endless cycle does present an accurate idea, well when i heard the concept it did, it is very plausible and of course you are right, it comes down to time really it never ends, it's why this vicious cycle will never end.
But i guess it keeps the world turning.
Many people beleive in this cycle in bigger scales than this communitywe live in, and even bigger than the countries themselves!
The more i think about it the more they just sound the same

Kurtz had been enjoying a particularly delicious doughnut twist as he listened to the intriguing conversation put forward by Faceman. Leaning against a wall he finished his tasty treat and did his best to wipe the sweet sticky icing from his fingers before deciding to add to the conversation.

Faceman. This is a wonderful subject you have raised. It covers the nature of our existence and so will always be great topic for discussion. I think Ghost makes a great point about the cyclical nature of life. I would like to add to that. A lot of what seems to be order or chaos is just a matter of perception. Allow me to explain using the example of someone new to this thing of ours.

Taking a sip of his rich Columbian coffee, he continues.

A new mobster embarks on this life of ours. At first this mobster's perception is restricted to himself and his immediate encounters. His understanding of intercity politics and the decisions of Godfathers is nothing to him but the esoteric movements of god-like beings. A realm totally beyond his perception. Likewise the advent of wars can seem completely without reason, appearing nothing more than a reasonless epidemic of death into something that appeared functional and perfectly ok as it was. All very exciting and interesting for sure, but our protagonist's lack of perception makes all these things appear chaotic.

Our story moves on. Several generations have now past. Our hero's bloodline has seen and done a lot at this point. They have gained experience, gained respect and even had a Hand or two among them. We return to the latest individual in the line who is given auth in a powerful city. He sits at the heads of tables and holds a position of respect in meetings with other cities. His perception is broad, his experience vast in comparison to that of his ancestor. He understands the cycle of life. The necessity for war and rebuilding, the inevitable ascension and eventual bringing down of great figures, the rich waves that make up the oceanic tides of our existence. He sees the great order of things. And, in terms of this thing of ours, has acquired an enlightened mind.

For such a mind, even as the bullets reign in and the booming inevitability of death march toward him, he will have a sense of calmness, knowing this was always going to happen. A few weeks from now, his next of kin will probably be employed by the people currently killing off all he's ever worked for and the great wheel will take another turn.

Finishing his coffee Kurtz and throws the cup in the trash. Turning back to the listening faces he finishes.

What may appear to be total chaos at first sight, may, after some considerable examination, turn out to be a deeply ordered cycle that must take place to renew and sustain its own existence. As far as I can make out anyway...

He walks over to Faceman and shakes his hand, thanking him for bringing the interesting discussion to the fore.

Thank you for the anecdote you have shared, it helps put perspective to the point being made, i think it also emphasises my secondary point that time is a big factor, it will only be a matter of time before chaos comes to order or the other way round, it really doesnt matter, thwe point is still the same.
I suppose also the next of kin has alot to owe to his ancestors for passing on all the things they have learnt, although imagine if that knowledge was destroyed? it would end the cycle preamturely and it would be hard to say if it would make much difference...
