DepositumFiduciarium arrived on a boat a few years back with nothing to call their own. After striking out as a blacksmith and then bootlegger  DepositumFiduciarium decided to look around at an under served market. Wanting to achieve the American dream they had heard so much about. They were not particularly quick with a gun nor cunning enough to orchestrate jailbreaks which ruled out very many professions available to the typical mafia man. They sat at their desk, in their tiny cramped apartment stationed directly above a off-track bookie's office attempting to find the answer to their problems. 

DepositumFiduciarium thought to themself.

"I could try my hand at card tricks on unsuspecting locals or tourists. It could make me enough to survive but what when they get angry? I am no good with a gun and present no frame to instill fear in another man."

This self-realization ruled out this idea, along with many others where having a level of intimidation would be required.

Continuing to ponder their existence brought the idea of returning back across the water to where they came from. Sure it would be a disappointment to return home with less than they began with. They  tried to convince themself that they still had their life and the stories from America to tell.

"No, not even I can convince myself of that being a story of success or happiness."

Finally DepositumFiduciarium realized that their tiny living space above shady business beneath them could be the answer to their problems.

"I will offer myself as an escrow and courier service to the people."

The idea had all the upside they had hoped for. It was an under served market, no deception of people, no need to be intimidating or scare customers with a gun. In fact the lack of intimidation DepositumFiduciarium possessed could be a benefit.

"People do not want to trust their finances to a brutish thug. They want someone who they can believe in, someone they can trust. That is something I have."

With their new idea they set out to establish themself. They rented a small space on the street to take customers, updated the doors with a stronger quality wood, and bought a used desk from a going-out of business, or maybe it was a did not make protection money payment, sale.

Next they went to the tailor and after selling their desk from home was able to afford the purchase of two suits, quite important in looking respectable to the customer they reasoned.

After much hard work and a bit of luck with a few of the purchases DepositumFiduciarium felt they were ready to open their business onto the city.

DepositumFiduciarium cleared their throat and began the speech they had recited.

"Excuse me" a nervous cough escaping their mouth as they began.

"Excuse me, I am DepositumFiduciarium. Many of you do not know me and that is because I have done nothing to make myself known. However, if you give me a chance I believe you will find my new service could be of value to you." 

DepositumFiduciarium began to fidget and slightly sway as they spoke.

"As I was saying I am DepositumFiduciarium and I am here to offer the service of an escrow. For those of you who do not know the purpose of an escrow it is something I learned whilst living in my previous land. You see if you and another person have an agreement or would like to have a trade of services but neither trusts to either you can come to me. I shall hold the commodity from each party and then send it to the other party when both sides have contributed what they have agreed to."

Gaining confidence DepositumFiduciarium straightened their posture and continued

"As I am just beginning this endeavor I shall take minor considerations for myself in performance of this service. We know the life we lead and trust is hard to establish with a foe plotting your demise. I also understand I have not established myself to any of you but I am looking and wanting to show I have a new idea and will be honest in my efforts. My books will be private to anyone not involved in each transaction. I can not be intimidated as I have no family or loved ones to use as a threat. I do not drink nor smoke and as a result will not be swayed by the vices of man."

Understanding their speech was becoming long DepositumFiduciarium decided to begin ending it.

"My service shall function in a quite simple way. You contact me with what you are looking to have held, what I should expect from the other party and a password to use for the transaction. When another party messages me with that password I shall verify they send the agreed upon commodity at which point I shall release what was given to me to both parties and we all go about our day. As I stated my books will remain closed, secured, and guarded at a premier bank. The only information I will provide is to the parties of each transaction should they request it."

Upon launching their new business idea DepositumFiduciarium felt good to be attempting this new venture on their own. After the initial period of euphoria wore off DepositumFiduciarium understood it was back to work expanding their business. Recognizing their potential client base was one which may find themselves on the wrong side of what the law deems appropriate DepositumFiduciarium formualted a new business idea.

Having gained confidence from their last speech DepositumFiduciarium stepped up and began 

"Hello once again it is DepositumFiduciarium. I hope you all are doing well and I appreciate the work you are providing me. Because of this I am excited to announce the addition of an additional service from DepositumFiduciarium's Escrow Service. A no questions asked delivery service."

DepositumFiduciarium took a breath and paced around for a moment to give everyone a moment to process the new information. It was not that DepositumFiduciarium found the audience to be ignorant but they felt it built suspense and seemed to help with their last speech.

"Under this newly offered service an individual, regardless of city or family affiliation, enters into an agreement with DepositumFiduciarium for the transfer of any transferable commodity. Party A transfers the commodity to myself along with the instructions of who Party B is and what to inform them of upon transfer. I myself being a believer in equal treatment, regardless of family affiliation, would then send Party B the commodity. At which point all parties anonymously go their separate ways. Rest assured I am not here to judge or inform upon any party, this would be bad for business and surely ruin my reputation."

Pausing briefly to allow for the new information to be absorbed DepositumFiduciarium adjusted their suspenders and ran a hand over their face before finishing.

"The benefit to this service is allowing both parties to stay upstanding in their communities, while leaving a paper trail only of DepositumFiduciarium. Once again you could feel confident in your privacy being respected in this world as I offer a no-log policy for this service and all communication will be promptly removed upon completion of the order. I thank you for trusting DepositumFiduciarium's Escrow Service for all your needs and look forward to our continued partnership moving forward"

Finding themself exhausted from the previous couple days DepositumFiduciarium stumbled back into their office and up against their desk. While the refurbished chair they bought was only a foot or two away  it seemed infinitely further.

"Quite possibly the most tired I've ever felt. I traveled across an ocean on a boat and then another 3,000 miles to get to this very place. None of that seems as depleting as right now." They said out loud to an empty room, on an empty street. They were becoming delirious from the hours they were keeping. Perhaps the glowing moon peeking through the window would listen?

"My new business is going great so far. Although I can not advertise the success stories, nor ask for reviews given my line of work, the clients I've served have been properly cared for."

Pulling the chair from around the desk DepositumFiduciarium sat down, still staring out the window. It was fascinating how quiet a street that normally bustles with activity can be under the darkness.

DepositumFiduciarium smiled and exhaled reflecting on their short time in this office.

"We have met interesting people both of high and low clout. As a good business owner we treated them the same. From Don to Gangster no one person was given more or less attention. The transactions have ranged from benign to unrepeatable. However we are only beginning. The idea of becoming comfortable in our enterprise is not one we can afford. A mistake such as that would ruin what little success we are beginning to see."

As they became aware that they were in fact speaking to an empty room and a large illuminated circle in the sky DepositumFiduciarium rose from their chair, slid it back to the desk, checked the drawers were locked, and made their way to the door. 

"For the first time in a long time Moon I am looking forward to what tomorrow will bring" They said as they locked their office and traveled down the street consumed by darkness.
