The scorching Las Vegas sun, a relentless spotlight on human absurdity, beat down on Ricky "RichardWad" Wadsworth, friends call him Dick. His impeccably tailored suit, a fortress of dark wool, felt less like protection and more like a personal sauna. Richard was on assignment, a watchful shadow for the Rancer family's "Fugetaboutit Oasis" casino, a gilded cage for their less-than-legal ventures. Today, however, his surveillance duties had been spectacularly derailed. It was the "Dick's Downtown Delight Pajama Jamboree," a charity event so bizarrely Vegas, it could only be real. Doing Charity events keeps the Families in good standing with the civilian communities A sprawling buffet, glistening with culinary temptations, had been set up right on the Strip, drawing a motley crew of philanthropists and insomniacs. Richard, perched against a lamp post like a cynical gargoyle, was contemplating the craziness of it all when the first shot was fired. Old Man Mr_Cat, a Rancer Consigliere whose sour disposition was legendary, was attempting a stealthy acquisition of the last lobster leg. He was fashioned in a silk robe patterned with tiny, strategically placed champagne bottles. Oh and fluffy slippers, can't forget the fluffy slippers. "Mine, you old coot!" screeched Korra , a burlesque dancer with a voice like a an angel and a nightie that left very little to the imagination. She made a grab for the dish, her perfectly manicured nails glinting. Mr_Cat , with the agility of a man half his age, swatted her hand away and, with a triumphant smirk, shoveled a generous portion onto his plate. Korra, her eyes narrowing to dangerous slits, didn't hesitate. She plunged her hand into a bowl of clam chowder, a hearty New England style, and launched a creamy, briny missile directly at Mr_Cat's unsuspecting face. "Heads up, Pussy cat!" Dick muttered, reflexively ducking as the chowder splattered Mr_Cat, leaving him looking like a distressed ghost. Mr_Cat , sputtering, retaliated with a plate of prime rib, sending it spinning like a carnivorous discus. "You want a piece of this, dollface?!" And then, pandemonium. Dean-Winchester , a bruiser with a heart of gold and a fondness for flannel pajamas, roared with laughter, grabbing a whole roasted chicken and swinging it like a weapon. "Food fight! Food fight!" he bellowed, a primal gleam in his eye. Suddenly, the Strip became a surreal battlefield of deli products, oddly shaped fruit, sinful cold cuts and bad intentions. Pancakes, hot and buttery, flew like edible frisbees. A cascade of whipped cream, deployed from industrial-sized cans, coated everything in its path, turning spectators into snowmen. Rich watched in morbid fascination as Jezabel, the family's notoriously finicky enforcer, in a pristine silk pajama set, took a direct hit from a cherry pie, its crimson filling clinging to her impeccable Sunday dress. Jez, usually a picture of stoicism, let out a high-pitched squeal that would have embarrassed a debutante. An enthusiastic fling of lasagna, thick with ricotta and marinara, sailed past Dick's ear, threatening to redecorate his expensive suit. He gracefully dodged, a smirk playing on his lips. "This ain't exactly how I pictured my Friday," he chuckled, watching Hush dressed as a giant banana try to fend off a volley of éclairs with a waffle iron. From the red interior of a stretched limousine, which had somehow managed to navigate through the chaos, emerged the formidable figure of Don Oblivion. He was a vision in a custom-tailored silk smoking jacket, his expression usually a mask of unreadable authority. He stepped out, his gaze sweeping over the culinary carnage. A rogue, whipped-cream-covered bagel, launched with surprising force by Cyclone- , arced through the air and landed with a soft plop on the Don's perfectly structured silver hair. The Don froze, a single eyebrow slowly rising. He reached up, carefully plucked the bagel from his distinguished mane, and examined it as if it were a rare archaeological find. The entire food fight ground to a halt. A hushed silence descended upon the Strip, broken only by the distant wail of a confused ambulance. Everyone held their breath, anticipating the volcanic eruption of Oblivion . But the Don, as always, was full of surprises. He took a slow, deliberate bite of the bagel. A faint smile, a truly terrifying sight, began to spread across his lips. He looked at Dick, who was trying to merge with the lamppost. "RichardWad," the Don's voice rumbled, surprisingly calm, "remind me to invest in a chain of bakeries. This is surprisingly good." And with that, he hurled the remainder of the bagel with surprising force at Carl, reigniting the food fight with the ferocity of a brushfire. "Alright, boys and girls, let's see what you got!" the Don roared, grabbing a tray of mini quiches and flinging them like confetti. Dick shook his head, a genuine, hearty laugh escaping him. Only in Vegas. Only with the Rancers would you see this as a charity event. He probably should have intervened, but honestly, where else could you witness a mafia don get a cream-covered bagel to the head and then enthusiastically lead a downtown pajama food. And where else can you find Dick covered in whip cream? |
