Well now, what in the sweet fuck is this?

John Galt listens to the rant and stares incredulously for a few seconds. He turns to Donnie Dumphy and cocks an eyebrow, silently speaking to him 'did that just happen?' with a glance. Dumphy nods at Galt. Galt looks back incredulously again.

I think I just heard someone ranting about how, and I shall quote, "respect is out the window," but he was ranting about that because ... People aren't letting him walk around, willy-nilly taking their money and just laughing it off. Did that really just fucking happen?

Dumphy nods at Galt again.

And he does this after you make a speech about how this disrespect had happened. And he does it passive-aggressively without naming names, but clearly implying that you, the right hand man of the Godfather of Los Angeles who had just delivered his own speech on this matter, are some - and I shall quote again - "Fucking fossil" and a "spoilt brat?"

Dumphy nods at Galt again.

So what in the sweet fuck happened to the "respect" he seems to want?

Dumphy shrugs his shoulders and responds: Who is John Galt?

Report Post Tip

You are wayyy off the mark Galt i replyed to that speech and agreed with him dont twiust this thread into your own words read it properly and you will see the message

Report Post Tip

I listened to your speech very intently. You delivered a wonderfully self-contradictory rant about "fucking fossils" in the "The New Age sensitive Mafia" who don't know anything about respect because they get upset when people ignore their property rights. And apparently you feel entitled to run around stealing from mobsters and that it's totally a respectful thing to do.

What did I miss? I listened to your speech and asked my friend if I had misheard something, but he had the exact same impression as me.

Well, I guess I missed the part that explains why you for some reason thought it was a good idea to imply I have difficulty reading. So I would think there's plenty of opportunity for you to clear things up here instead of spouting off a simple "you misunderstood."

Kat walks up and smiles at Chris.

Chris, I rather enjoyed this speech. While Im sure many people will not agree with it, I know what you mean. People have gotten way too sensitive over the years. I personally have always thought that this is the mafia, and people should act like it. Do real mafioso actually ask permission to mug someone?

"Oh excuse me, you mind if I rob you? Hey you, can I please shoot you?"

Since when is the mafia polite? Is it really that big of an offense to do a crime, to do something that is expected in the mafia? And do we really get all pissy over such a small amount of money?

This isnt the mafia then. Lets all hold hands and sing happy songs.

Report Post Tip

It saddens me to see some so unknowing of out past. When has the mafia been polite?

Since day one.

The first time one friend of ours met another it's been understood that respect has been an important aspect of this life. It allows one mobster to operate along another without overstepping bounds and without creating the need for bloodshed. Stepping on one another and creating conflict is not good for business. Showing the proper respect and, yes, being polite is good for business.

If you're looking to be a take no shit bad ass then I suggest you find a common street gang and take your chances. In this line of business it's those that understand respect and can be polite that will get ahead.

Report Post Tip

I agree, that we do need respect to a certain degree. Or more, we tolerate each other. But for people to get so upset over something so small, I dont understand it. You are also. Orrect in saying that those who follow the herd, kiss some ass, and act "polite" will go places. Down with those that have a mind of their own and different idea, right?

As far as the act of robbing someone, yes it may be the polite thing to do by returning the money. But you shouldnt have to ask, and really we shouldnt say " No you cant rob me." Thats like saying no you cant shoot me. Different crimes, but same idea.

What really gets me is that people take such offense that they want the othe party to be shot. To be killed over such a thing is just silly.

I shall quit ranting, as Im sure many of you will consider it "disrespectful" or something rediculous. So carry on, enjoy your polite mafia.

Marston listens in and chuckles to himself...

Now, now Ms Vitale, suggesting that this is in any way similar to asking for permission to shoot at someone is quite an exaggeration...

It is not the act of pickpocketing that is in question here, if you've just "got to pick a pocket or two" like some out of control juvenile from a Dickens' novel, I'm sure there are plenty of rich men and women around who won't give a damn about the pocket change you steal from them.

The issue here is giving respect where it is due. While there are people who are happy with the fun and games of stealing wallets, there are others who feel that there is no place for it amongst men of respect and honour, and would prefer their pockets left alone.

I can understand both sides of the argument and I'm a bit of a fence sitter on the subject myself, but I have the common sense to see where the actions I take may cause conflict, and I avoid taking them, as should anyone else that considers themselves respectful...

As for the old timers statement... I'm a bit of a "fucking fossil" myself, and I can't recall a time where the vast majority of people were less touchy on the subject. So I don't really know where you're coming from on that one...

You are also. Orrect in saying that those who follow the herd, kiss some ass, and act "polite" will go places. Down with those that have a mind of their own and different idea, right?

Just out of curiosity are you saying that your leaders got to where they were by following the herd, kissing ass, and acting "polite"?

You seem to be lumping everyone who has made anything of themselves as kiss ass sheep while suggesting that anyone with a mind of their own have been oppressed. In such a case it's obvious that any talk of respect and polite behavior has been thoroughly lost on you. Personally I couldn't care less what you think of me or the people in my organization but I wonder if your leaders will be so apathetic when they find out what you've suggested about them.

Report Post Tip

Thank you for twisting my words into something other than what I said. Very thoughtful of you.

Did I say specifically that every leader on her falls into that category? Or did I say my leaders fall into that category? I believe that I did not. It was a general statement not meant to be taken the way you made it to be. If I wanted to blatently disrespect anyone, I would have. Instead I come here, stating my opinion in maybe a bold but not intentionally disrespectful.

I should know not to come into the streets with an opinion. People only take your thoughts the wrong way and cry out disrespect when its not. I will refrain from replying anymore, because I am apparently causing a scene. Shame on me for even coming to the streets.

Being the bigger person, I will apologize to any that I have offended with my opinion. It was just that, an opinion that most do not agree with. It was not an attempt to disrespect anyone as you say.

Report Post Tip

After listening calmy to the constant disrespect Peter looks around confused.  He then looks at Katerina and just laughs.

That apology in itself was disrespectful.  Being condesending towards everyone else is never good.  Yet, everytime you talk it seems as if you want to belittle someone else, and act as if they are a lesser being.  You talk about how your words have been twisted but talk in such a hateful tone of voice.  I just find it so hard to believe that somebody has such a with showing respeect for those who have earned it.

Peter steps back so he can listen to what all of the others have to say.

Report Post Tip

Hateful? That is one word that I would never use to describe it. Opinionated, bold....yeah maybe. I would never purposely say anything hateful or even blatently disrespectful to anyone. I maybe a little stubborn and strong willed, but I know better than to show out right disrespect.

And take it as you will, but it was not intended to be rude or or any ofher description you want to throw out there. As I said multiple times, disrespect was not the tone I was going for.

Kat gets up on the stage and clears her throat.

Ladies and gentlemen of the mafia. I offer a sincere apology to those who may have been offended by anything I said.

Kurtz listens to the entire discussion and after some moments puzzling over the main speakers bizarre, post speech suicide, he is drawn to a young Gangster fighting her corner in the discussion. Unable to remain passive he interjects.

Katerina, I think you may be taking needless grief for your turn of phrase and manner rather than any opinion you may hold. Opinions are always welcome, one's turn of phrase can often be the cause of easily avoidable argument. Allow me to elaborate:

I shall quit ranting, as Im sure many of you will consider it "disrespectful" or something rediculous. So carry on, enjoy your polite mafia.

This is you addressing everyone else involved with the conversation that holds an opposing view to your own. These words are condescending and disrespectful. You appear to be reacting like someone being attacked. In fact the exact words that have been directed at you by the other participants have been nothing other than an impartial, point by point address of what you have said. The other participants have reacted and responded without spite or petty commentary, just simple direct answers. If you are unable to accept that you may have been mistaken in your opinion, then I'd suggest it might be better to remain silent than display what can only be described as petulant retorts. Its not constructive.

Thank you for twisting my words into something other than what I said. Very thoughtful of you.

Your words have not been twisted or used as a weapon against you. Again people are responding to the exact things you have said. If you wish to make yourself clearer and less open to interpretation then I'd suggest explaining yourself a little more thoroughly. It might help avoid future confusion.

I should know not to come into the streets with an opinion. People only take your thoughts the wrong way and cry out disrespect when its not. I will refrain from replying anymore, because I am apparently causing a scene. Shame on me for even coming to the streets.

I would be very sad if this was the case but its far from it. The streets welcome debate and differing perspectives. What you seem to be missing is that anything left open to interpretation is likely to be misunderstood by at least one or two people. If you wish to present an opinion, that's great. If you wish to present an opinion that conflicts with just about everyone else's, that's great too. You must appreciate however that your words are all anyone has to go by so they must be chosen carefully. Considered and thoroughly worded responses are required if you wish to avoid any needless conflict.

Being the bigger person, I will apologize to any that I have offended with my opinion.

That was an ill advised way to put that. I am sure you can see how that can only be construed as inflammatory. A prime example of something simple that could have been worded differently so as not to piss off every other participant in the conversation.

See, just these small things worded differently will generate an entirely different series of responses from the other participants.

And, to add my own view to something on the topic itself...

What really gets me is that people take such offense that they want the othe party to be shot. To be killed over such a thing is just silly.

As was already established in the conversation, our world revolves around the showing of respect. If someone makes a request of you to leave them alone and you blatantly ignore that request, your act is one of disrespect. However you personally view it, the fact is, it is disrespectful. If you wouldn't like someone doing something you had asked them not to, then don't do something they would rather you didn't.

Report Post Tip

I probably should just quit replying, but here I am yet again. I shall try to be a little more appropriate.

Kurtz, I do appreciate your response. And I see what you mean, the way you express yourself or the words you use can have a certain effect on the way people see them. I saw the words of ofhers as an attack towards me so to say, and it made me defensive. Like my words, which werent intended to be seen as disrespectful, Im sure everyone else were not meant to be seen as an attack. But we all view things differently.

I agree that I should rephrase some things, and will make an effort in the future to think about how the things I write maybe be viewed by others.
