He stood on a sidewalk just beside a busy street. With a hand in his coat pocket he stood nearly motionless, head tilted slightly, listening to the foot steps of various passing people and automobiles. By sound alone he could often tell what was walking past, male or female, something he trained himself to do extraordinarily well. He finally set in motion, a rhythmic tapping kept in time with each step as he moved up the block, continuing until he could smell the aroma of food being prepared at a local pizza place. He paused for a moment to take in these scents before tilting his head, can extended to tap twice, listening, then moving directly to the door of the establishment. It was then that he was barreled into, pushed out of the way as if a stray dog is carelessly kicked to the side. A gruff voice giving a loud "Out of my way!". He felt it coming and let his body glide with the push, picking up the scent of cheap cologne, musk, grease and cigar smoke. Most think being blind makes you disabled, most think a blind man is harmless, in this case it made him more dangerous. He kept an ear on the departing man. "Soon enough Sir." He moved into the establishment to have a nice lunch. |
