Toph stood in the middle of Downtown, Los Angeles, the wind whipping her hair around as she took in the scene before her. Her ancestors had long belonged to this thing of ours, but she was fresh off the boat - shipped off to start adventures of her own, to make a name for herself. She had to start somewhere. It seemed like there was crime everywhere. Familiar faces surrounded her, teams of mobsters discreetly taking over the local post office, robbing them of every hard-earned penny with no remorse. Mafia presence overloading the local shop owners, promising their safety with a large cut of the profits. Men and women littered the streets, conning the locals out of their money with the latest "get rich quick" schemes. It was a beautiful thing. Toph didn't even know where to begin. There seemed to be so many options to make a quick buck. She stood frozen in place, indecision overwhelming her senses. Determined to make her family proud, Toph tried to take a step forward and was met with a resounding voice in her head:
"What the fuck?" she muttered to herself, rubbing her eyes. It was like her feet were cemented to the ground. She swayed before righting herself. Clearly she stayed out too late the night before, celebrating her crew's victory of torching a business across the street. They had stayed up late, congregating on the roof of the HQ as they watched the beautiful flames, drinking in excess as they watched it all burn down. This morning all that had remained was a pile of soot. Caught up in her thoughts, she tried to take another step.
Her eyes widened as the voice echoed in her head. She needed to get to a shrink. Did schizophrenia run in her family? Was she still drunk from the night before? Did she step in some kind of industrial strength bubble gum?
"Right Toph," she muttered aloud, trying to will her motivation. "Let's take it easy this time. We're going to steal a purse and get the hell out of here." A rather elegant looking woman stood to her left, alarmed at Toph's admission before scurrying off down an alley. "Well fuck," she sighed as she watched the perfect mark disappear down the streets. She covered her hands with her face, embarrassment washing over her as her cheeks flushed. This was amateur shit. She was only lucky that no one was with her to witness her failures. Looking around she decided on an older woman, half distracted as she perused a jeweler's stand. She could work with this... if she's shopping for jewelry surely she's loaded. Her eyes sparkled as she watched the woman hold up different necklaces, each more expensive than the last. She breathed a sigh of relief as she stepped forward, glad to be rid of the invisible blockade keeping her rooted in place. Toph tossed a can to the left of the woman, distracting her momentarily by the loud noise as she walked by her right side, sliding the purse off her shoulder with ease. Toph ran back to the headquarters, delighted in her success. She'd only made it to her room before the excitement overwhelmed her, dumping the contents out to see how she'd made out. A deep frown settled over her face as she spread out her reward, convinced she was missing something. "A couple hundred dollars and.. some bobby pins." Toph groaned as she flopped back on her bed and covered her eyes. Hardly worth it, but she supposed tomorrow was another day. |

Skumbag was in the Los Angeles on drug business...nothing fancy, just the usual. He was standing outside a local diner waiting for a money drop. It should've been an easy score...about $200,000.00 in profit if all went well. Of course, he'd have to kick some up to Indifference. That's the way things were. Up until this moment, the day was pretty standard...wake up at the hotel, get the dope together, drop it off at the usual spot, and kill some time. Lunch was steak and a nicely aged scotch. Little did he know he'd be in for an afternoon show. Again, there he was, outside the diner/drop spot waiting for the cash....cigarette in hand...when an odd woman caught his eye...she looked familiar...he'd seen her before...TophBeifong...she ran with Trucefather's crew. Surely a trusted member, she was his right hand. "What is up with this lady?" Skumbag thought to himself, watching her talk to herself. He watched...confused...almost concerned that this lady was there...in the middle of the street...just standing there...muttering to herself. She was clearly eyeing some lady with some jewelry on her...but just staring...as if though she was having a complete conversation with herself...at least ten minutes went by. And BAM, there she went. Like a ninja, Skumbag watched TophBeifong, fascinated at her quite exceptional pickpocketing skills. "What a fascinating creature.." he thought to himself. Skumbag looked to the floor at a cat that was apparently brushing itself along his pant leg. "Oh look, cash is here," he noticed the drop had taken place as he probably stood dumbfounded by what he'd just seen. |
