My idea is to introduce an "accounting fee" for money deposited on the bank. A small percentage of the money deposited on the bank will simply "disappear" every hour.


This feature will influence the gameplay positively in several ways:

1. Take money out of the game

2. Discourage saving and encourage spending. Less money will be placed "dead" on a bank account.

3. Increase the importance of the mugging feature. If having money on the bank account costs you money, people will keep more money "in their hands", which will make it available for potential muggers. Thus, there is a higher incentive to mug.

4. Add a new strategic dimension. One will has to decide whether one wants to keep more money on the bank which will cost a small percentage fee or keep more money "with you", risking to be mugged out of it. Furthermore, a new incentive to become a better mugger or become good at mug-defense is created, opening new "specialisation areas" for characters.


A logic explanation for this fee is that the bank hides your money from the tax authorities. They take a small charge for that. So in order to avoid having to pay tax, mafiosi bribe the bank with a small "accounting fee" to be able to deposit their money tax-free.

Dupe much? This idea is pretty bad, it is clearly a blatant excuse for muggers to be able to mug high amounts of money. It will never be implemented.

And what's wrong with mugging?


It's a feature of the game is it not? Why not change other areas of the game to allow it to be less redundant.


By your logic, the locals help people shoot things, so we should get rid of them.

yeah Branston quite hit the point. Right now there are tons of "hitters" (like my beloved brother) in the game but no "muggers". So why not make mugging more attractive?

Not to forget the positive side-effects on game-play I mentioned in my original post.

I agree that mugging should be much more used than it is. I don't think a bank fee is the best way to promote mugging. I think the bank has a good purpose as a safehaven for your cash and if anything there should be interest so it can build up.


I haven't mugged yet because the way I see it, mugging is practically equivilant to whacking as far as the punishment is concerned. It seems like people need any excuse to whack and mugging is one of them. Hell, we just had like 5 crewleaders and scores of crewmembers whacked in a war that broke out because of a harmless mugging.


I think mugging should just have a very high success rate. Mugging is typically what a low level criminal does to get some quick cash. If someone willing to mug someone sees someone with cash, they will go for it at the next oppertunity. While the game can't mimick that entirely, it can be promoted that way somehow. Mugging should be used at least like 5 times more then whacking, but from the looks of it it's used like half as much. There is just too much risk. To compensate, I'd suggest reducing the risk.


For example, make mugging 90% effective and when it fails you get a message like "There were too many witnesses so you changed your mind." And for the victim, instead of telling them who tried to mug them, just say something like "Good thing this street's crowded 'cause someone's been watchin' your pockets!"


That would increase the use of mugging to the point where everyone will bank their money. And instead of Wealth being the combined cash you have on hand and in the bank, it should just be on hand. This way, muggers will be looking for the big score, someone with a ton of money in their pockets. Most people will bank their cash and only the new people will play with lots of cash on hand until someone takes it from them. On top of that, you need cash on hand to buy drugs, fly, gamble, etc, so there will always be that increased risk.

I like justin theink mugging should be premoted in some way but not by this. This idea would make it far to easy to lose money maybe instead of losing money every hour in the bankd you have to pay money to open up an acount

What about this?

If you withdraw money from a bank in a city different from your home city it will cost money to withdraw the cash. This fee would be the same for ever city every time you withdrew money. This would take money out of the game and people would then be paying for protection against muggings. Whilst in your home city it would be free. This would add a twist as people would have to be aware that they may be mugged when in another purchasing drugs for example.
