Rare? No thanks, I'll have my Steak bold. Started by: DeadlySin on Apr 22, '12 18:11

It was almost midnight in Philadelphia. The moon was bright in the sky, but Deadly didn't know this - he was in one of Philly's speakeasys, relaxing after a week of hard work. He was sat at the bar, enjoying the music with Phil Steak at his side. The door of the speakeasy opened and he saw his Right Hand enter who nodded at him and grinned very widely, lifting a set of keys and shaking them at him. Deadly ordered a round of drinks and then wandered off to the stage, drink in hand...

"..." Deadly's mouth was moving but nobody could hear him. He tapped the top of the microphone which made no noise, before looking toward the sound staff with a frown. The sound was fixed within a matter of minutes, after the staff had hurriedly swapped over the broken microphone for a working one.

"Hello? Excellent, we can get underway. Now, many of you may be wondering why I am up here talking to you all. As you all know since being given the city of Philadelphia I have not named anyone as a captain - this is about to change. For a long time now this man has worked harder for me than any other, his loyalty is unwavering and there is no one I can think of that is more deserving of this. Phil, your new headquarters are awaiting you - Coco has the keys. Congratulations my friend, I've all the confidence in the world that you will do me and the city proud."

Deadly lifts up his glass in a toast. "To Phil Steak - the first addition to the Philly ranks!"

Congratulations to Phil. I am sure you will do great job bud.

hil was standing by the entrance nearest to the bar. He would always try to be as close to the entrance as possible, to ensure he knew who exactly was entering at all times. He couldn't help but laugh to himself as he saw the scramble of staff trying to resolve the broken microphone.
As he listened to his boss speak, he scanned the audience, seeing tons of friendly faces smiling. This made im at ease, seeing that the people looked genuinely pleased of what was being said.

As Deadly lifts his glass up in a toast, Phil approaches the stage, to give his mentor a hug.
He then turns over and winks at Cassi and Coco.

He turns back to DeadlySin, as Deadly motions with his head to Phil to take the microphone and say a few words.
Phil raises his glass towards everyone and then swiftly finishes his drink before speaking into the mic....

Friends, I am not going to waste all of your time with a speach about how hard I am going to work to better this city and so forth, as we all know these speeches very well by now. What I would like to do is take this time to share a story of inspiration, especially to the new ones around us.

Far too often we hear the cries of the same blood lines achieving positions of power, because of family ties, friends, and connections. However, my journey to this point proves that hard work, committment, effort, and communication do not go unvalued.

This life of ours was not a life that my father wanted me to be in. Prior to his passing away, he had sent me out of the country to Europe for me to study abroad. He sensed the war coming, and he did not want me to be involved in any way. He tried his best to keep me out of this life. But I was too much like him not to.

Too many times had I heard stories from my "uncles". I say uncles even though they were not related to me, but simply associates of my father. In these stories, they would always complain about the newer generation complaining that they were not getting their dues. All of these stories ended with my uncles reciting the trials and tribulations they endured at that age to achieve the positions they were in now.

On my long boat ride back to the States, I thought about those times, and seeked to start out from the bottom, and not rely on the friends my father had made.

Once I made it back to New York, I quickly set a plan of action. Things were looking significantly different than when I had left, however I was able to find out the names of the top families scattered across the country.

I researched the families, and noticed that Las Vegas had a family which seemed to be fairly minimal in members. DeadlySin ran this family, and word was, he didn't care to take in just anyone who came his way. He wanted quality over quantity. He only had about 20 people working for him at the time, and I thought this would be the perfect way for me to get noticed quicker.

Now, DeadlySin and his people were no dummies. By the time they were done talking to me, they hinted that they had heard of my fathers from years past, although they had never worked with him directly. There were absolutely no ties between my family and DeadlySin. He didn't know who I was, didn't fully trust me, and treated me as though I was just like anybody else.

In the coming months, I went from being a complete stranger to where I am now, not because of my families past, but because of my efforts and work ethic in the present. It comes to show, that if you want something and work for it, it will come.

I would like to extend my warmest and deepest thank yous to DeadlySin and his right hand, Coco. Working under them has been a privilege and an amazing learning opportunity. Their communications with me have been excellent, better than I could have ever imagined, and I have no doubt that if it wasn't for those communications with me, I would not be as ready as I am today to lead, and maybe one day I can give the same opportunity that I had to another.

Congratulations Mr Steak.

I am sure that you will do the city of Philadelphia proud.

Very glad to see our organization in Philadelphia growing. Salut to Phil. I've always been a firm believer that working hard for your leader and being committed to your craft is what gets you ahead in Our World and would generally dismiss complaints to the contrary. It's good to see Phil's promotion as yet another example to strengthen my argument. Best of luck to you and your crew.

Report Post Tip

Congrats Phil, I hope to see even more captains in the future.

WhereWasI comes running at after hearing a rumor of this day coming,

Congratulations friend, I know that I'm almost as excited as my favorite BG to see you here. Few people show the kind of commitment to protecting their family seemingly in the shadows as you have and this is well past deserved. I know this intelligent move may indicate that DeadlySin isn't going senile in his old age, but I still hold my position he is! If you ever need monkey protection, a partially insane advisor, or shooting practice from one of my bars you have my number. The one sad thing I'll miss is our constant Pick Pockets on each other, but I'm certain you've found someone else to pick on by now. I'll say it again, because it feels so right; Congratulations friends, I'm glad to see you got the just reward you truly deserve.

WhereWasI hands Phil a ceremonial banana and runs into the streets to cause more mayhem stopping the monkey revolution.

Wraith smiled, seeing Phil_Steak accept his position as DeadlySin's first captain.

You have extraordinary luck Phil, as demonstrated by your casino experiences. But more importantly, from the bits and pieces you've told me, you're a tremendous hard worker, and you deserve what you're getting right now. I look forward to seeing how you grow even further!

Drizzy takes a hit of his joint, smiles, then claps for Phil

Congrats man! I know you will do well, and help with growth and success of Philly!

Coco listens to Deadly speak, and raises her glass to the toast. She then listens to Phil and has to wipe a tear from her eye, as his words are so kind. After all that, she takes to the stage alongside the two men and begins to speak.

Phil, your hard work and dedication to our family has proved to us what an amazing person you are. I am just so proud of you and everything you have done. It was such an honour to collect the keys for your new headquarters this afternoon. I will miss seeing you in our bar, it will be hard to find a bartender as... inventive... as you!

Coco hands Phil the keys and hugs him, before turning back to the microphone.

I know you will shine in your new position, and I look forward to working with you in your new role.

She smiles broadly before stepping aside to allow the next person to speak.

Fist listens in as he was oiling up his robotic parts.

I'm very glad you are getting this chance Phil.  You've been a friend to me since I first showed up here.  Congratulations!

Armageddon is making his way through the streets when he notices DeadlySin speaking, he stops and lights a cigarette as he catches the butt end of the speech.

I would like to congratulate you Phil_Steak, it is a good thing to see Phi start to expand, I wish nothing but the best for your future ventures.

Armageddon tips his cap and is on his way.

"Congratulations my friend, this is well deserved."

Captain BubbleBeard slams the door of his taxi shut and slips a twenty to the driver through the window before wandering the street. Not having walked too far he saw a gathering of happy people, seemingly celebrating something. Taking a sip from his flask the Captain lets his curiosity get the best of him and listens in. Liking what he hears, he walks up to Phil with a large grin on his scruffy face. Extending his hand heartily, BubbleBeard chuckles and addressed Philadelphia's newest leader

Congrats my friend, this is most well deserved. Though I've already mailed DeadlySin congratulating him on picking such a well deserved person, and yourself congratulation you, I believe public recognition is always appreciated as well. Our lines go back quite some time, back to a time when yours accidentally shot at mine and missed... I don't know what it was that made my family believe your excuse for the shot, but I'm glad they did, for we wouldn't be friends today if they'd held a grudge.

I know you'll do Philly well mate, it's in your blood to excel. Even though I am but a mere WG, I think it's safe to say we all expect big things from you and Sky. But enough of my rambling, I'm sure you've got a million and one things to do!

The Captain nods and tips his cap to Phil and kisses Sky on the cheek, slipping them both a bottle of champagne in the process before walking off into the sun

KissTheSky stood next to Phil, slipping her arm through his as she listened to all the well wishers. She was so proud of him and honored to be joining him in this new endeavor. She waited for a quiet moment before turning to him and smiling.

Philly... What a wonderful day for you and our great city! You are going to be an awesome leader and I feel very privileged to have the opportunity to serve with you. Having watched you since I've arrived here after my mothers death has been nothing short of amazing. You have shown DeadlySin such loyalty, devotion, hard work and dedication that you have made the bar extremely high for others to reach in proving their worth.

She reached out to the bodyguard standing behind her and took a small box and a bottle of rum.

I know that rum is not always your drink of choice, but I believe this bottle was saved specifically for an occasion such as this. And you cannot have the rum without a nice cigar to go with it.

She handed the things to Phil with a smile and wink before kissing him on the cheek.

Congratulations Phil. I am so very proud of you.

On landing in Philadelphia PJ hurried himself a long to his old friends favourite speakeasy. Nodding to the big burly man on the door he winks and gives the password. Entering he sits just in time to hear DeadlySin make the announcement. He then makes his way over to Phil_Steak.

Phil my old friend! We have worked together for such a long time in Las Vegas before DeadlySin made his move to Philadelphia. You were always an inspiration to the newer members of our fair city. Your help in securing and stablizing Las Vegas in the days of the experiment is greatly appreciated and it was only a matter of time before you were given the chance to run your own family. Knowing those of Philadelphia as well as I do through our past ventures I can positively say that you deserve this more than anyone else I can think of. Congratulations my friend and I look forward to great things from you.

As always... feel free to stop by Fort Izzel any time for a good ole chin wag.

DeadlySin had told Kurtz about his favourite Philly drink sink in the past. He'd been meaning to stop by for some liquor and laughs and this seemed a perfect reason to head over there. After a shower and a fresh suit in the hotel, he took a car and headed over to Phil_Steak's party. The place certainly had the right feel. A couple of drinks and a few hellos found him sitting at a table with KissTheSky and Coco, watching as DeadlySin made the most of the electrical issues. On listening to Phil_Steak's speech Kurtz applauded, walked over to him and shook him by the hand.

Phil, it would be ridiculous for me to stand here and claim you and I have history. We don't. But listening to your speech only served to illustrate perfectly how bonds are formed and understanding developed. I know the man that put you here and trust his judgement implicitly. I know many of the people who call you friend and I respect their opinions too. I am happy to see someone given a chance on merit, through hard work and trust earned over time, through action. It is a lesson I hope some others take note of.

Kurtz took a small leather pouch from his jacket pocket and handed it to Phil_Steak who opened it to find a set of keys and a small map printed on Outlaw headed notepaper. At the bottom of the map were three numbers. Phil examined the map momentarily before looking back at Kurtz with a quizzical expression. Kurtz explained:

The keys are to an apartment down near the beach in LA. Its quite a nice place, I had it taken care of by very tasteful hands. It is yours. Whenever you come to visit us in LA we will be all the happier knowing you have somewhere suitably refined to stay. Anyway the map shows the location of the building. The first number is for the line in the apartment. The second is for the Outlaws offices and the third is my number. Please make sure to call us next time you're in town and we'll ensure you don't lack for entertainment.

He smiled and shook Phil_Steak's hand once more.

All the best with your new family Phil. I look forward to watching you grow.
