Gutter Saints East River Reset [3rd Times a Charm] Started by: Jeffrey_Lebowski on Feb 05, '26 05:36

Brooklyn, New York

Brooklyn smelled different.
Less polish. More rust.
Salt from the river mixed with hot asphalt and burned coffee.

The explosion had made the papers:

"freak gas line rupture, structural collapse, no survivors confirmed."

The city loved tidy endings. Jeffrey Lebowski had learned a long time ago not to trust them.

He stood beneath the shadow of an old warehouse near the East River, coat collar turned up, hands in his pockets. The night pressed in close, neon buzzing somewhere down the block like it had a secret to share.

Behind him, the building was nothing special.
Brick. Boarded windows. A faded bowling pin painted crooked on the side wall, probably from another life entirely.

He liked it.

Jeff took a slow drag, exhaled toward the river, and listened to the water slap against the pilings like it was keeping time.

“Funny thing about fresh starts,” he murmured.
“They usually show up right after you swear you’re done.”

Inside, the place was bare, concrete floors, folding chairs, a counter salvaged from a closed-down diner. Someone had already rigged a single bulb overhead. It flickered once, then held.

A small envelope sat on the counter.
No return address.

Just a single word written clean and deliberate on the front:

Approved.

Inside was a short note from @Dixxon.
No speeches. No conditions. Just a line that carried weight:

Brooklyn’s got room for steady hands.
You’ve got my blessing.
Don’t waste it.

Jeff smiled, not wide, not loud. Just enough.

“Wouldn’t dream of it.”

He set the note down beside an old brass plaque he’d carried longer than most folks carried grudges.

GUTTER SAINTS
Abide. Roll True.

He straightened it, same habit, same care. Some things didn’t change just because the skyline did.

Outside, a couple figures lingered across the street. Not watching too close. Not pretending too hard not to. Word traveled faster than smoke in cities like this.

Jeff poured himself a drink, nothing fancy and leaned against the counter, looking out at Brooklyn like it was an old lane he hadn’t bowled yet.

“Alright,” he said softly.
“New borough. Same rules.”

He raised the glass, not in celebration, not in defiance. Just acknowledgment.

“We keep it quiet.
We keep it clean.
And when the world shakes again…”

A half-smile.

“We don’t blow up with it.”

The bulb hummed overhead.
The river kept moving.
And somewhere between the shadows and the streetlights, a familiar feeling settled back into place.

The Gutter Saints weren’t gone.
They’d just crossed a bridge.

“Time to roll,” Jeff muttered, adjusting his hat.
“Brooklyn’s got lanes too."
