lingering movie anxiety Started by: Titania on Feb 15, '26 17:56
Just curious, I'm watching 13 Ghost at the moment and discussing with my wife about lingering "anxiety", fear etc how ever a movie or show has changed you to this day mainly interested in the fear/anxiety but to this day because of the movie, there is a scene where the "Angry Princess" ghost is in the shower. I do not like my shower curtains closed when not in use it gives me weird anxiety.

i mean its definitely a thing that spread faster with the movie "psycho" due to the shower scene. since then everyone has had some anxiety about "whats on the other side of the curtain" when you cant see it

For me it's wells. I watched the original Japanese version of Ring when I was about 16 and it permanently rewired something in my brain. To this day if I see a well in a movie, a garden, a forest or whatever, my brain instantly goes “nope, something’s definitely climbing out of that.”

Rationally I know nothing is there, but my fight or flight system clearly never got that memo.

its like when jaws came out and everybody suddenly developed a fear of sharks in any body of water they could think of, theres people who thought a shark could legiteametly get them in a bath tub haha. when i see a well i think ima hear a voice from little timmy who may have fallen down the well

There is very little lingering Movie anxiety any more as if it is not an ongoing series of some kind it seems that can not make the type of money to make it worth while for the Studios.  We all just have to hope the series we like garners enough money to afford the actors involved and allow them to make a profit or even they will be cancelled.

American Werewolf in London really scared me - at that time i had to walk across a large park to /from my girlfriend's place, and i was terrified! I have watched it again since then, of course, and the special effects are not up to modern standards but, back then it was scary.

THE MOVE IT PENNY WISE  really scared me - at that time i had to stay awake during 3rd shift and i was terrified! I have watched it again since then, of course, back then the original was real scary too.
