The Chicago skyline held a different hue on Friday night. There was a vibrancy that had not been felt in ages. Perhaps it was due to a lackluster turnout to the local speakeasy or perhaps it was due to the fact that the city was not quite ready to see a revolt against prohibition. Certain bootleggers worked along others in Chicago to establish these underground gatherings where the alcohol could flow freely. From Canada and Michigan to St. Louis and Kentucky people all over were coming to the Windy City to sell their booze.

“That’s it. I’ll turn the truck and get down to Chicago and offload it to the buyer.” Icee informed his friend.

Icee, a man of great skill in trafficking the drink had no qualms of maneuvering through a heavily policed area. More than not, he evaded capture from the police and rival criminals. There were a few close calls but nothing that ever resulted in having icee pulling a gun and shooting. Infact the very reason they called him icee was because of his nerves of steel when he drove while being chased. Although it didn’t happen, occasionally driving through Pigs Eye it would. The rival bootleggers weren’t too fond of Icee. He had a way of negotiating and winning people over like you would not believe. Iced was expertly skilled at meeting an individual and learning their values quickly. He was particularly successful when it came to opening rackets. Although he never personally operated them he put the right people in place to do that.

When he turned over the key, icee noticed an envelope. It was to be given to the buyer directly. It was from his partner. At first icee didn’t care but after a while the envelope appeared to almost glow at him as he drove. At a certain point he had to make a fuel stop. The attendant ran over to pump the gasoline and iced handed him a little bottle of the premier moonshine he sold. It was their deal for not saying anything as he drove up and down for deliveries. While he waited he looked down at the envelope again and decided to open it. The long letter informed the buyer how this was the last time they would be doing business as they have been bought out by the Frantico family in Philadelphia. They were no longer allowed to sell. Icee himself didn’t know this. But he knew how thing like this play out.

Icee knew the frantico family well enough to know that if his friends were bought out, eventually the Franticos would get that same money back. As he continued to drive he knew he could not return up north and would decide to stay in Chicago. He had enough contacts down there that it would likely be a good move for him. He stared at the long road ahead and began to weigh the decision in his mind. What was his plan? Was he always to be a simple bootlegger? He wasn’t particularly fond of murder or extorting people but he knew that line of business was prevalent in Chicago. Could he see himself doing that?

when he finally arrived to his destination and unloaded all of his product, he received the cash in a large bag. Not uncommon to review ina. Abg, often this was a way he preferred to receive the cash. In the bag above the cash was usually a couple of shirts or grocery items to make it appear as though it was something else. Icee took the cash and proceeded to hand the letter to the buyer. They smiled as they went their own way. Recognizing he was curious about the nightlife in the Windy City, he went to the biggest concentration of speakeasies there was to meet a few new people.
