Cory Chase stood amongst the smoke that was rising in Chicago. He tucked it away and left the scene for some needed explanation. It wasn’t long before Cory approached the crowd and looked at them all with a very stern face.  He wiped his suit and turned his attention back to the crowd of people waiting on him to speak. 

“Good evening everyone. Today I have come forward to explain the actions you all have seen on the streets of Chicago. Most of you are probably wondering what happened here today and I am here to explain that. I have always been someone who feels I need to explain the reasoning behind the decisions I make so that everyone knows and is not left in the dark.”

He looked up to the sky for a moment and shut his eyes for a second. Turing his face back to the group he began to speak again.

“Simply put, for some time now I have felt that Chicago have been run into the ground and controlled by someone that I didn’t feel is capable of running the city. When I looked at the city and I looked forward to the future, I didn’t like the things I seen. When we were both in this city, instead of feeling like a unit, I felt like two totally different families. I don’t think a city should feel like they aren’t a complete family. What is the point of city unity when there isn’t any there in the first place. I look at the future of Chicago and I only saw it heading downhill with the way that Skorpeon was running things, so I decided I needed to do something about it. I won’t let the city that I have been raised in be driven down so badly when it has so much more potential. This move has been well thought out and judged, now executed. Hopefully this city can be put back on track now that the thing holding it back is gone. Rest your soul Skorpeon, you were a good friend but the leader of a city I didn’t see you doing the best that you could possibly do and some of the plans we had were not the same.”

Cory look a deep  breathe and kept his eyes on the crowd. He scanned through it as he started to walk closer to the people.

“I greased some palms and got the job done. I did it for the best of the city and it’s future. Maybe things would have been different if he wasn’t running the city and he was just a crew leader. The city needed a change and taking him away from it seems to be the answer so I did what I thought was best. I want better for the city of Chicago and I want better for my own family. When it comes to my family, I defend them will everything I have for as long as I am alive. The future of Chi was only headed towards a disaster.”

With that being said, Cory Chase nodded to the crowd and stepped back from the spot he was speaking. Cory stood at the top of a set of bank steps and waited as he would for people replies. 

Cory, are you trying to tell us that the downfall of this city only rested on Skorpeon's shoulders. Before you were set up in your own build suit you were his trusted right hand. You had influence and power to make changes in the city at that time. I'm just having a hard time believing Chicago will change now that it is under your control. You've come all the way out to these streets to address this problem to us, no worries, we all saw Chicago suffering, but you didn't really say anything. I mean, you couldn't even take out the man that trusted you so much on your own. Please, do us all a favor and continue and tell us all how things will change.

Spider, I would like to tell you a little story of how Skorp came to be the leader of the city. He paid someone else to take the shot on the other person in the city. How's that sound to you? Sound exactly like what happened here? Yea, ok then. Cory saw something wrong with our city, he changed it. He did what he thinks is best and I am looking forward to seeing and being a part of the revival of the city.

I know the story of how Skorp came into his own city and that way worked so well for him. Oh, no, it didn't he's dead. Thanks for the story Morrison, now go be super some where else.

This usually happens. I'm just simply asking Cory why he'll be different.

Actually, had Skorp had the leading skills that he needed he wouldn't be dead right now. That's what Cory is going to do different. He is going to do his best to bring out city to greatness and with the help of his crew that he has it will become a reality. I can't wait to help attain that goal. That's what he'll do different. 

And I will be super wherever I please. That's part of being super thank you very much.

The old saying remains true. If you dont like something, rank up and do something about it. Or rank up and pay someone to do something about it. Thats almost as powerful as doing it yourself. Dont be mad in the future when someone follows your lead and does the same to you.

Well it is nice that you wish to speak for Don Chase, but now that the question has been asked morrisson, I am curious to see what he himself has to say.

Morrison, I think you are completely missing my point. It shouldn't matter if Skorp is dead or alive for Chicago to be a great city. Cory had the influence to make Chicago a great city before Skorp died and now that he does he's finally stepping up to the plate. Why now? It was obvious Skorpeon didn't do anything for his city. When the man that authed him into his own city, Godfather Stamina needed help, Skorpeon told him no. It seemed like there was plenty of room for Cory to step into this "saving" role before Skorpeon died. He failed to do that and now that Skorpeon is out of the way he's trying to convince us all that we will see Chicago as a productive city.

See, the point you are missing is that Skorpeon had the ultimate say. Which means Cory did not have this power as to which you speak to change the city. If he was to go against Skorp he would be killed. Or, he could have Skorp taken out, and then be left to run the city in a proper way, giving himself the power. That's the only way I know to explain it to someone.

Spider, this has nothing at all to do with Stamina, or New Orleans, what relevance you find in that I do not know.

In my opinion, this is a step to bettering the city. Cory had tried to work with Skorpeon as one large family, or unit as he said. But when it comes down to it, Skorpeon had the final word, as the leader of the city. His word wasn't always for the best and that's why Cory decided to put an end to it.

It's always nice to see when someone makes a decision that change is good and is prepared to take a risk to improve the city that they've worked in for so long. I have to reiterate one thing that has already been said. If Skorpeon was a good city head then there wouldn't have been a family so ready to turn on him.

I don't understand why anyone would be displeased with paying someone else to do the dirty work for you. That's usually what happens in our line of work. If the head of a family chooses not to take on a hit himself and hire it out to a more accomplished hitter, then I don't see what the problem is.

I wish you the best of luck Cory and look forward to seeing the changes you're planning on making within the city of Chicago. May all the dead rest peacefully.

The brush swept through Uncle_Jesse's hair.  Leaving behind a silky shining look that would make even lesbians swoon.  After listening to Cory's speech, Jesse's concentrated hair combing look Jesse had on his face turned into a half smirk.

Have mercy people!  This man is doing what is right for his city.  People who live in this city are behind him 300% and believe it will in fact now become a prosperous city.  And that is all anyone really needs to hear needs to hear.  I for one would like to say to Cory, Congratulations on becoming the head of Chicago.

I understand what you're saying but as long as we recognize people as the defacto godfathers/mothers of their cities then the underbosses and captain crews should be united under that person. If each crew was running as an independent unit then they would have to politically act as such but in the world we live in currently the leaders unite behind the perceived strongest leader in the city. Since apparently the leader didn't fully support their leader in this situation then it was only a matter of time before action was taken one way or the other. I haven't seen any violent backlash that leads me to believe that the city disagrees with the action that was taken.

Do you risk sticking out a less than ideal situation to make it work or do you take action and hope that's enough to change the perception of your city? Surely it was all considered even beyond that and this was the option that had the best chance of long-term success in the eyes of the people who made it. We'll find out later if its correct or not.

With that being said best of luck to those who are alive and doing the best they can for their family every day.

Ok, if it's silly to compare the five families of New York, how about we compare any other city in which the mafia has had a presence? My point was simple - the mafia does not operate the way that Cory is suggesting. Families are autonomous units and cities where the mafia has a presence generally have more than one family. And no, the families are not considered to be one and the same.

The reason I asked why there were multiple families was because Cory suggested that each city should generally act as one family. Of course, there is a limit on HQ size, but that has nothing to do with my point. If the reason for multiple HQs in a city was merely due to the restriction on capacity, there would necessarily need to be multiple HQs, but under Cory's philosophy, they would all be one family. So why do they all have different crew names?

You can argue my point all you want, but you cannot deny the simple fact that throughout all of history, going back to the 1400's in Sicily, multiple families have existed in various cities and they exist autonomously. They do not act as a single unit. This is a fact, and Cory's presumption contradicts this fact.

I do believe the question being posed by Spider isn't if Cory_Chase can improve the situation in Chicago but how he intends to do so. While I appreciate that some believe in him enough accept the vagueness of "he'll be a better leader" you'll have to excuse those of us who would request a bit more detail.

You see to some of us outside of Chicago we can only go by what we see. What many of us see is Cory's crew having been built much the same as Skorp's. A handful of active button men that have stood on the docks handing out invitations without so much as a word exchanged with the people fresh off the boats creating a city that is a sea of ever-sleeping gangsters. Now I get that he wants to improve intra-city relations which would be beneficial to the handful of Chicago mobsters that wake up to go to work every day but that does nothing to improve our community.

And like it or not, the method Cory used to grab power is one that now leaves him beholden to the community and puts him on a hot seat to prove he can be better that Skorpeon.

Chester, I see where you're coming from. All of you examples though are, invalid, to be frank. You are dating back so far back into time that none of our bloodlines were even a part of the mafia then. Who knows of those stories are even true? In this age that is not how things are run.

(OOC: I hate to be OOC, but try looking at things from a MafiaReturns - The game perspective and not how the real life mafia works. An example would be 'The Las Vegas Expiriment' It was called an expiriment because it had never been done in OUR community, although it was probably likely to see in the real life mafia.)

If a leader auths their underboss to lead on his own group of associates, does this no longer make them family? Just because they sport different tags they shouldn't work together? This is what Cory meant by 'unit', your city works as a WHOLE. That is how it has been all throughout history, and that's how it will continue to be.

Cory stepped forward and put his hand on Morrison's shoulder, as well as Jin. He gave them both a nod and stepped forward to where people were commenting and asking questions. He look ove to Spider first and smiled.

"The thing is Spider, this wasn't for my personal gain or for myself in any sense. This is for the protection of my own family, which I would die for any day. When it comes to the ones who put their loyalty into me, I only expect myself to give it back to them in return. Without them I would be worthless and every boss or leader is the same way. Those around you are the ones that make you thrive and really find out to what level you can take your expectations. I didn't see that with Skorpeon running the city of Chicago. Skorpeon wasn't perfect, and I am sure I won't be perfect. Not everything goes as perfect as we always wish it to but I will be here to do the best I can with the talent I have around me. I love my family, I am not shameful to admit it at all. Everything I do and say are for them. Me and Skorpeon were like two different families as I said in Chicago.. but why? Does it have to be like that? I took the action I did today for the best intrest of those with me and those currently trying to buld this city. We lost one family in Chicago to save two for the future of the city. 

Me and Skorpeon didn't see eye to eye on every decision and sometimes you aren't. Many of you will say 'well yes, listen to your city leader'. I have been the one here doing everything I can for the city and I felt I was by myself at times with just my family. I don't want that feeling in this city anymore.. I want one that wants to be here together and work as one. Not one where I feel like the workload and dedication is significantly shifted. It wasn't Skorpeons dedication and work I based my whole decision off of but that has a lot of effect when it comes to building a city. Some of Skorpeons past and future decisions were different from mine. That happens as I said, but we didn't agree on more then the occasional discussion. We were actually standing back to back and looking in other directions when it came to the way we wanted to see this city grow. To sum it up Spider, me and Skorpeon are different and we have different views on this city. I have great people around me who support me and I will take the opportunity to do the best I can. I can't do it alone, but that is why I have a supportive family around me. They want this city to prosper just as much as I do. I have no problem with showing that I will do my best and hopefully better then what was and would have been. Everyone will have their own opinion on that however."

Cory quit talking for a moment and took a breathe. He looked are the crowd again and listened to a few more comments. He kept his smile and nodded to everyone that had a say.

" The reason I made the decision I did, I want a better future then what Skorpeon had for us. When your side family is putting in more work then the CL's family then that should be a drastic sign that the city is suffering and isn't too worried about it. Skorpeon didn't want the city and the responsibility. That or he had a great way of showing that he didn't. As for the way I handled it, it was the safest and best way to protect my family... that is simple, anything for them. They should always be above all as every CL will tell you. As for New Orleans, I don't really know why that is brought up. That is family business and also many others family business so I don't find this the place approprate for that conversation as it has nothing to do with the events that took place today."

"My grandaddy told me that something similar to this happened to the first head of chicago. Skorpeon called in help to take him down. Well, thats the cycle of life.

I hold to the idea that you should do your own dirty work, but I guess i can't fault don chase for his actions. good luck to you Don Chase. you and your city."

Philli walks away down the street whistling.
