1. South Park

                - I can't believe no one has said this yet. The show is pure genius. Funny as hell, testing the boundaries of what is acceptable on tv, and oftentimes an insightful political commentary, if you can catch it between the toilet humor.

2. Seinfeld

               - Another genius show. There was never a single unfunny episode. It added tons of new catch phrases to the American lexicon.

3. Simpsons

                 - It would be negligent not to give this show the credit it is due. Although it sort of fizzled out in recent years, this show can probably take credit for the ensuing popularity of adult-themed animation. To follow in this show's footsteps: Ren & Stimpy, Beavis & Butthead, King of the Hill, South Park, and many others - all have The Simpson's to thank for breaking the mold. When this show first came out, critics thought it would fail in short time. Instead, it started a whole new genre.

4. All in the Family

             - Going WAAAAAAAAAAY back here. This show was hilarious for its time and tested the limits of political correctness through the unfiltered mouth of Archie Bunker. The show was so un-PC, that I doubt they would show many of the old episodes in modern times without editting out some content.

5. Saturday Night Live

                - Although there have been good casts and good seasons, and not-so-good casts and not-so-good seasons, the show is a mainstay for over 35 years now. A collection of all the episodes would serve as a veritable time capsule of pop culture in America. The musical guests were always superb and put on their best performances, and the hosts always allowed us to see a side of them that we would not ordinarily get to see. The show has had controversy (Sinead O'Conner tearing up the Pope's picture comes to mind), and Seinfeld-esque catch phrases permeating contemporary pop culture.
