After some time away from this thing of ours, I’ve come back to Brooklyn to continue the proud Janus family name. A family respected throughout the city for loyalty, tradition, and unusually large Januses.

My grandfather Phil Janus came over from the old country with twenty dollars in his pocket and somehow owed thirty by the end of the week. Ran numbers out the back of a barber shop for thirty years despite never once cutting hair.  Then there was my uncle Holden Janus. Strange guy. My cousin Hugh Mungus Janus was a good kid but not very self aware. Poor Ivana Janus married six times. Tough wowoman. Uncle Gape Janus tried going legitimate with a restaurant in Queens. Lasted less than a month. And nobody forgets Tiny Janus. Six foot seven.

People laugh when they hear the Janus name. They always do.

Usually right before they realise a Janus is right behind them.
