Rummaging through the week's transcripts of speeches, with a long sigh I fiddle through my pockets looking for my cigarettes and matches. Bringing the smoke to my lips I strike a match, bringing it up my lips igniting the cigarette and shaking the match down. Inhaling deeply, I begin to speak." Well folks, I've come to you today to address a terrible trend that is beginning to take place in our streets and our homes. I find it horrid at the lax state of the streets. I remember how my grandfather used to speak of leaders who would spark up great debates in the streets and bring immense pride and respect to their organization with their words rather then their gun skill. Often times the leaders who would stay mute would be shot due to inactivity in the streets. It was a compulsory part of being a leader, if you didn't appear semi-regularly you would be looked down upon and most likely shot due to your ineptness and ignorance. And the people would agree! Our current leadership is taking advantage of everyone by not even making an effort to appear in the streets more then once a month, and when they do it's not sparking debates or even drawing attention, it just rots with two or three members who feel the need to make an appearance for their boss. Even worse so, if you were a peon in a family and didn't regularly visit the headquarters and attempt to venture in the streets you were shot. Now in today's world some people prefer to stay quite in the streets, but no activity in the HQ is unacceptable. How are you to know anyone if you don't make an impression in your HQ at the minimum. Now we are seeing more and more auths. Every major city is filled, and two cities even have captains. But all the while we are seeing less and less street activity. Have we really let the oldest most valuable part of this world slip away. The streets! All day I see leaders in jails training up busting out sleeping mafioso's. And herein lies the problem, that's the most I see of them! There is no activity in the community, they do so little to outwardly impact it's almost sicking, if it wasn't for a fancy suit you wouldn't even be able to tell them apart for a common dweller. This is wholly unacceptable, the leaders should be LEADING the people into the streets for discussions, not to a jail cell to rot away. Throwing away the smoke, I take a deep breath before continuing. How often did we complain about the past regimes ways? Yet I find us slipping back into them. Helping your friends from the coffee shops get into power. Oh well this is always bound to happen. But at least make an effort to make it look like you earned it. Either way their are enough of you to help make an impact in the streets and even bar district. Daera my hats off to you for your plan to expand the business district in New York. This is what we need! More encouragement from the leaders. More leaders dare I say "Leading?" And spare us the "I am taking care of my HQ" speech, you have a structure in place? Then use it! Your a figurehead for your family. ACT LIKE IT! Be in the streets not dealing with every little thing in the HQ, leave that to your structure and be where you should be...in the streets offering shelters to the homeless and promoting your policies to help people see who is right for them. Your leader's help LEAD the people to your HQ's be open! Share your ideas for a better tomorrow! Show something! Realizing how long winded this is getting I decide to wrap up. Well since I know most people won't listen to this whole thing I will sum it up it quick tidbits of rant. People are always complaining how the same old bloodlines are getting auth and new people are never given the chance, NEWS FLASH: The time is now, all sorts of people are getting auth! Prove yourself a capable leader and you will no doubt get your chance. Just please... do something...DO ANYTHING, please....The power is in your hands do not waste it. Finishing up I grab my jacket and fish around for another smoke, lighting it I look around for people. My gaze meeting the eyes of a few people I pray they can make a semi-intelligent comment. |

I think street presence provides a leader with a fair amount of credibility, but why must it spark a debate? I mean shouldn't a leader be resolute enough on their stance with any issue to not call for a public debate. It seems like a rather democratic way to live in a non-democratic lifestyle. Leaders aren't story-tellers either, but if they're out and about, making a difference in their headquarters among their people, in their own cities, and making a name for themselves in the community as a whole by works unranted about in the streets, why does that make them less of an effective leader? Personally, I don't look back at the old ways with that wistful nostalgia any longer. Our community is growing, our leaders have managed to accommodate and grow while providing a stable environment with diplomacy and not bullets. Perhaps more is done with the words of our current leadership than is seen by the masses. I think the state of affairs in the seven cities can at least attest to that. |

Their is never a need to spark debate, I personally am just a fan of a nice debate in the streets once in a while, it opens up peoples minds to new ideas and sometimes can have a very serious impact on a growing mafioso's way of thinking. And I just find it fitting that a leader should be part of this shall we say "sculpting of the mind"? It's important to have someone to look up to. Why not make it the leaders. Lack of street presences doesn't make them any less of a leader, for me I was always brought up on the basis that a leader should be well spoken above all else. Maybe they can't shoot, or earn or anything else. But if they have a way with words they are still an elite person. Words can go alot farther then bullets. |

My great great Grand-Fathers diaries talked about those times. Times when if you where bold and where mute that a silent bullet ended your life. I must say I do agree that the leaders should be out in the streets, But at the same time I believe we as regular mafioso must also step out into the streets to share our train of thought and our stories. For it is in telling our own stories and gaining the crowds respect that we shall someday hopefully reach the same position as our leaders.We all have our own individual thoughts and ideas. When we speak them it helps in sparking the ideas in others. |

Giovanni listens intently nodding along with some of the points the man makes before speaking out to the people himself Sir I must agree with you I think that you have to be heard if you wish to be a leader, get yourself out and talk to the people let them know what's happening spark up some street debates and anything else you wish to say. yes the rest of the public will always be making other speeches but just turning up once in a while and hoping that is enough was always looked down upon in the past and I don't see why it should be any different now. I recently conducted some research into what sort of street presence out current leaders have and I would like to share that with you all now. please note I have not taken into account all speeches which were to do with captains being authed or the leaders own personal auth speeches as these are mandatory. I wanted to know what else they had brought to the streets. Let's start with the two female Dons of our world Alessia Born June 11th, Authed June 27th Speeches before she was authed 1 Speeches since being authed 7 Iris - Born June 7th, Authed June 21st Speeches before she was authed 1 Speeches since being authed 5 ok so not much to go on there both born and authed around the same time and a similar number of appearances in the streets, however, on closer inspection I found out that although Don Alessia had made 7 appearances in the streets 4 of those times it was for a brief statement instead of a full speech so is it a case of quantity over quality? Moving on to the newest Don in our world LargeHamster - Born June 7th, Authed as captain July 7th, Authed fully July 20th Speeches before given captaincy 0 Speeches as a captain 0 Speeches since being given full auth 2 Hmm not the greatest showing from our furry friend I must say, he has been in full leadership for 2 weeks now and only been to the streets twice which is quite disappointing especially considering one of his speeches was regarding the night we thought we lost him and the other came yesterday. Next we come to the leader down in New Orleans Dakine - Born June 9th, Authed as captain July 15th, Authed fully July 25th Speeches before given captaincy 0 Speeches as captain 1 Speeches since being given full auth 0 I don't think I need to say much more but 10 days into the job of running New Orleans and we are yet to hear from the Consigliere. what are the reasons for this? I have no idea maybe he will let us know himself but once more it is a disappointing showing. Ok now we have my own boss Daera - Born June 21st, Authed as captain July 13th, Authed fully July 20th Speeches before authed as captain 0 Speeches as captain 1 Speeches since being given full auth 2 A similar result as to what LargeHamster came up with, but looking past the numbers you realise that LargeHamster has been around for nearly 2 months and Daera for only 44 days then you see that he has made more speeches in a shorter space of time so I'm sure there is more to come from him in the near future. And finally we come to our newest Leader TM-Scarface - Born June 22nd Authed July 25th Speeches before being authed 1 Speeches since being authed 0 So we have a person who has been around for 45 days and has spoken in the streets once and we are yet to hear from him since he set up his HQ in Las Vegas 10 days ago. I have decided to leave off the captains for this due to the common thought being that captains aren't required to have as much street presence and the face they both recently set up and haven't had much time as of yet to make their mark. So there's the numbers folks make of it what you will feel free to add your take on them do you think its acceptable would you like to see your leader out more if your one of the leaders is there an explanation as to why you haven't been out in the streets very much Please note these are just the facts and figures going on the leaders street presence it is not a reflection of how the run their families. She listens to Giovanni Moretti and smiles, nodding. Sir, you have cited the number of speeches we have made in the Streets, have you cited how many conversations we have participated in? It's not only about the original speeches, it's about participation in general and you sir have failed to take that into account. Quality is more important than quantity in my eyes. Conducting myself in a manner that will not draw heat from the police is another. I can't be all flash and glam and expect to stay out of jail. I already have officers watching my every move, I have to appear to run a legitimate business you know. I cannot flaunt my side deals and other sources of income. Can you judge me upon a few numbers? No, you cannot, but as you can see I am not afraid to speak in public. I hope you have a fantastic day and when you look at the leaders again, take into account the number of conversations and events they have participated in too. At the same time you speak of our participation I look at yours.. A Wise Guy that has started no discussions, held no speeches, and has only found their way out of the HQ 15 times since July 13th. You have only passed on 173 envelopes as well. Next time you wish to pluck apart a leader for inactivity in public, please be sure to look at all aspects of their participation for there is more that goes on behind closed doors than you know. After taking the piece of paper Giovanni is shocked that his words seem to have upset the Don, as she is about to leave he feels he better clear things up Iris if I could just have a moment before you leave... Just so you understand this was never an attack against yourself or any of the other leaders, I am not so foolish as to do something like that, on the contrary, I remember some of your speeches and enjoyed them, I was mearly stating some facts and voicing my opinions. As for learning how to count, I had already said I was not taking into account speeches regarding authing captains or speeches that would be mandatory, obviously this would up your speech count and would give different results. Also I understood that you have been around and participated in numerous speeches over time but once again for these results, I was only using speeches that were started by the leaders. Speaking about myself I do not think that I am required to have ventured out of my HQ so many time nor mailed a certain amount of people, the fact I have chosen to be quiet, I believe does not make a difference. Is it hypocritical of me to bring these facts to the streets when i have been so quiet? possibly but, and I think you would agree, there is a big difference between a quiet wise guy and a quiet family leader. thank you for your time on this matter. |
