Maybe some respect will help? Started by: StonedSilent on Aug 04, '08 02:07
A man steps up to the podium located in the middle of town square

Maybe I'm in the wrong, maybe I'm in the right who knows, but I'm going to discuss what's on my mind.

Many years ago my Father once told me, "If you want respect, first you must understand how to give Respect." Something maybe my great great grandpappy lacked back in the the old days, but then came a time from learning by past mistakes my Ancestry had made, that maybe my Father realized fighting for number one just doesn't cut it in this world. So he made changes and it worked out for him. He learned what it meant to be a loyal and a hardworking Mafioso, it paid off.

Many of changes have been made since the old days, technology is a bit more enhanced allowing us to hone our gun skills at the range, the ability to heal the one's that protect us on a day by day basis, the ability to tip off an officer with a simple phone call and a small bribe to get those sleeping tossed in jail, the ability to reach out to others in other worlds by telling them exactly how great it is, so on and so forth.

With all the changes, has it made some Mafioso so blind to what should occur, such as following the old code of Omerta, or even respecting our current Hierarchy?

Regardless of the changes this world has come to see, it still doesn't change the fact that those in charge are just that. Regardless of what they have done to get there, they have obtained that title. Respect doesn't come from liking or disliking an individual, as a matter of fact, the ability to show Respect for someone you may dislike for whatever reason, shows you are a true Mafioso. Disliking someone does not mean disrespecting them is right to do, it shows ignorance and the inability to bite the bullet and roll with the punches.

Recently it seems that some feel it's fine to disrespect people publicly, even current leadership. Will I name who? Of course not, the code of Omerta tells me not too, and it would be hypocrisy to do just that.

You are a Mafioso, act like one. What is every Mafioso's dream? Power, Money, RESPECT

My father also once told me, "Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer." Might not be everyone's belief system, but I take it as advice and I can see how it can help with success. Regardless we are all here for the some reason, we all choose our paths in life, and how we do things. Singling anyone out for the path they decide to choose, whether it be by being a hitter, a successful jail breaker, or even a simple petty criminal who enjoys the thrill of knocking over their local 7-11's to obtain their rank. Disrespecting fellow Mafioso's because of how they obtained their status doesn't make you look like a Mafioso, more like someone who can't bite their tongue or maybe even someone a bit frustrated with their own inability to succeed. I'm not saying they won't be successful, but it sure as hell doesn't help.

If your not happy with a situation, then sometimes being Silent is the best way to go. Standing out is one thing, but standing out by disrespecting others is whole other story, and surely doesn't get respect that you may be seeking by others.

Until next time.....
