Chapter 1

Today I decided to take a long walk to clear my head.

I was on the outskirts of Vegas, not much out here, far from the big hotels, bars and busy casinos. The houses were old and in need of repair, not like the new ones they have built near the airport and sold for ridiculous money.

I walked to the end of the road and for some weird reason decided to turn left leading me further away from Vegas city centre. I must of walked for a good few hours, the houses became further apart, the heat of the midday sun hotter and everywhere was dusty. I could feel my thirst getting more my toungue becoming dry, I needed to get out of this heat and find something cold and wet. I started thinking of a nice bar, a hotel or a diner, but I saw nothing around me except desert.

The road rose slightly infront of me and as my eyes followed the road upto the crest of the hill I thought I saw something glitter. My legs started to move quicker, the glittering something could be a bar or hotel, a building that I could get rest and shade from, something to drink, or maybe a ride back into town.

It took me a further 20 minutes to reach the crest of the hill and infront of me to my dismay was just more tarmac snaking away into the distance, but the thing that was glittering was a metal Cross ontop of a small building, a church of some sorts. I thought why would a church be built out here with no immediate community around it, but since i was hot and tired and in need of water more than ever I decided to take a closer look, surely the Father would have something for me to drink.

The building was pure white, and by the looks of it recently painted, the white against the blue sky with the sun hitting the metal cross making me squint, I walked upto the big oak door and pushed it open. It had the classic movie squeak as the door opened, I grinned to myself thinking about some horror flick I saw at the open air movie house recently.

Inside it was nice and cool compared to the heat outside. I stood there for thirty seconds whilst my eyes adjusted to the darker interior. I started to see candles everywhere, and as I made my way towards the alter which seemed to draw me nearer, I could make out the statue of Jesus looking at me, his eyes looking straight at mine. It sent a shiver down my spine, it didn't feel like any of the others churches I have been in, and there have been a few.

I kneeled, closed my eyes and crossed myself, although I am not a religious man I still like to say the occaisional prayer. I was just about to say something when I heard the voice.

" Nice to see you Mr Gold " A deep voice boomed.

My eyes flashed open, I jumped up and started to look towards the source of the voice. Nobody was there, I spun around and couldn't see anyone. My hand went inside my jacket for my gun, it wasn't there in its holster.

" you cannot see me Mr Gold " came the voice again " and you cannot use your gun in a holy place "

" where are you, show yourself " I demanded.

" I cannot reveal myself to you " The voice said.

" why are you some kind of God " I joked.

" You are very perceptive Mr Gold, I am your God Father " the voice said with some authority.

I stood there mouth open and no words coming out, totally speechless and blinking my eyes as if this were a dream and I needed to wake up, but it was real enough, you don't sweat in your dreams and I could feel a trickle coming down the left side of my temple.

" I need to talk to you about soomething, " he said " this thing of ours "

I just stood there and nodded, my mind was racing with all types of explainations, lack of water too much sun, I really couldn't place the voice, it didn't sound like any Godfather I have known, but it seemed familiar.

" You need to sit down Mr Gold, I will explain what I need from you "

I sat down in the nearest aisle, well kind of slumped actually as my legs were feeling like jelly and the sweating now was going down my neck. I was thinking if I mentioned this back at HQ they will think I have gone nuts.

" Mr Gold I have chosen you to be my messenger "

" I ain't not freakin Messiah " I mumbled

" No you are not, but you ARE going to relay the message to this thing of ours "

Listening to the story SquidMaster begins to take out his pack of lucky strikes and lights one up...

After the man comes to his stopping point he smiles and begins to speak...

This was an awesome story and I honestly can't wait to hear the rest, PUREGOLD. The dynamics of the story are well thought out and executed articulately so far, the next portions I imagine could go either way depending on which path you choose to take.

My grandpappy, god rest his soul, would tell me stories of when he was a teenager in this world, people would be afraid to voice certain things in certain manners. My grandpappy also told me that his grandfathers would tell him stories from generations back when people would come to these very streets and chant stories, much more often than it would seem today. Thank you for your time and effort, PUREGOLD!

Putting his hand on PUREGOLD's shoulder as he prepares to finish his story, he whispers into PUREGOLD's ear that he has a promising business partnership with some fur coats he had acquired from a friend up the road. Shoving his business card into the mans pocket, SquidMaster reclaims his seat in the audience for the rest of the story.

Chapter 2

New York - Sunday 8am

Gina opened her eyes to the sun pouring through the big windows of her uptown loft apartment. The dull ache in her head told her she was out drinking way to much last night. The hand she felt resting on her naked breasts told her she had gone home with someone.

She turned her head and looked at the mop of black curly hair, the muscled olive skinned shoulders, the heavy growth of stubble and the delicious pink lips. The scar across the forehead only to familiar as to who it belonged too.

“Oh shit” she thought “ its the Wiseguy Mario from the Downtown crew, my Boss isn’t gonna be happy”

Mario Tortelli came from deep Sicilian roots, he was known as a charmer in the downtown circles and could always be found at Luigi’s bar down on 20th, chatting to anything that resembled one of those catwalk clothes rails that were always around the area due to the fashion district being based there.

Gina raised the sheets and looked down his muscled slender naked body, she was impressed as he obviously worked out and in the morning light looked better than she remembered last night.

“ well if I am going to get into trouble I may as well have a bit more fun “

She crawled under the sheets, kissing her way down his body eventually coming to rest around his hips. She put him into her mouth and felt him instantly start to wake from the attention of her tongue. His hands came up around her head guiding her slowly, his legs moving slightly to help her shift her body ontop of his....

_ _ _

An hour later whilst they soaped each other’s bodies in the shower, she noticed a scar on his lower back. Gina knew her wounds well, without doubt it was a bullet exit wound, most probably from a .22 calibre. She touched the wound looking more closely.

“ how did you get that? “ She asked.

Mario turned his head “ oh that, last year during the war between us and the Gold family, kept me in bed for a couple of weeks, I was lucky “

Gina slightly froze at the name Gold, she knew the family very well which was known to be tough and ruthless in their business dealings, their family was built on trust and a tight inner circle. The Don of the family Samuel Gold had gone missing during that war and hasn’t been heard of since. Nobody knows his whereabouts or if he is alive, the right hand man Alberto Postino had stepped up to take over.

Mario turned round running the sponge over Gina’s pert young breasts, hovering over her nipples so they became aroused.

“ I like the idea Mario, I thought you were exhausted “ Gina grinned.

“ Hey, I am Italian! “ he exclaimed “ we have huge stamina “

Gina giggled,” well big boy you will have to take a rain check as I have some business to take of “

He pouted a disappointed look, “ ok baby, anything you need me to help you with? “

She gave him a look “ Mario, you’re so sweet, but I am a big girl, nothing I can’t handle “

They got dressed, Mario picking up pieces of his clothes from all corners of the room, obviously having been thrown recklessly last night during the heat of passion. He looked around the sparse bedroom, everything was decorated in soft pastels shades of whites and creams. The fine Egyptian cotton satin sheets, the white lamp shades and the soft ivory washed wood of the side tables and dressing table. Everything looked elegant and certainly not the room befitting to a Capo killer of the most notorious crime family in New York. Mario noticed though as he looked more, that there wasn’t one picture frame in the room. Odd he thought.

He walked through into the open lounge area which joined the kitchen, Gina was busy making coffee and fighting with the coffee grinder.

“ want a cup “ she said looking up

“ thanks baby, I gotta get running myself “ He walked over and kissed her lightly on the lips, lingering a few seconds to long, hoping she may of changed her mind, she hadn’t and he pulled away, said his goodbyes and left.

Gina picked up the phone and dialed a number she knew off by heart because she had dialed it many times before. The dialing tone rang and rang without an answer. She placed the receiver back on the cradle and huffed.

Where the hell is he?

Chapter 3

New York - Sunday 11:30 am

Alberto Postino sat in the big spacious office just off 3rd & 54th. The official company letterhead actually read Lexington Avenue and from his window he could see Wolfgang’s Steak House where he liked to eat on a friday night, they did a great Sirloin steak and he knew the owner Wolfgang personally having helped him out when he had arrived from Germany looking for work some years ago.

He looked at the phone waiting for the call. The phone just sat there silent. Everyday at 11:30 am he got a call. The caller was never late. He knew the whereabouts of the caller and knew that on the West Coast it was 8:30 am.

Alberto picked up the paper and casually read the headlines, not really interested in the stories, just grabbing the headlines. There was a big write up about federal taxes, another about a crime boss out of Detroit being held on drug charges and 3 people killed in the Bronx last night, Police suspecting a gang war was the cause.

11:35 and still the phone stayed silent.

Alberto flicked to the back pages to read the sports. The Yankees had won again, 5th straight wins now. The Chicago Bulls were coming to town next weekend and some golfer who Alberto didn’t really pay attention to had just one a major tournament. Alberto had never liked golf, an educated man’s game, normally for the rich, famous and city bankers. Not his favourite kind of people, plus there always seemed to be a Police Commissioner invited to some of these golf events and that wasn’t exactly good for his business.

11:40 no call had come. There was a knock at the door.

Giancarlo popped his head round the door smiling “ Boss we are just popping out for some early lunch, ya want us to bring you anything back? “

The young Earner was keen to please, and Alberto smiled waving a dismissive hand for him to leave him be.

11:50 The phone hadn’t rung. His caller had failed to call him for the first time as arranged in over a year.

Alberto picked up the phone and dialed a number, he spoke a few words to the person on the other end, grunted, sighed and then put the phone down. The wrinkles on his forehead becoming deeper from his grave expression. He did not like this, not one bit.

I sat there feeling a little strange. It had suddenly turned cold in the church, the sweat now feeling chilly against my skin and drying making my neck feel tight. I was tying to make sense of this, was I hallucinating, was I so dehydrated that I was imaging it all, the sound of the voice snapped me back to reality.

“ Samuel Gold are you listening to me!? “ The voice asked.

“ yes “ I croaked.

“ I need you to deliver my message”

“ what message?” I asked.

“ All in good time, I need you to say you will first ”

“ What if I don’t?” I asked starting to get my confidence back.

“ you won’t like the consequences “ the voice said in such a way a chill went up my spine.

“ ok ok what do you want me to deliver “

“ Over to the right hand side on the table in the corner is an envelope. Take it, go home, read it and then you will know what to do next.

“ do what next? “ I asked.

Silence, the voice didn’t answer me.

“ hello “ I called out.

Silence. The voice still didn’t answer me. I stood up and looked around, I saw the small round table in the corner.

“ hello?” I called out again. No answer. I moved over to the table and saw a small envelope , I picked it up and looked at the front of it. The initials GF in a gold leaf script were in the middle of it, nothing else. I thought about opening it, then remembering the instructions I placed it into my inside pocket of my jacket. I turned around to walk out and noticed it had got darker in the church, the candles had gone out, yet I hadn’t felt any breeze or wind.

I opened the big heavy door to the outside and the hot sun hit me again, the heat immediately warming my cold body.

By the road stood a black shiny Cadillac, no one inside, its windows rolled down. I looked around listening. I could near nothing except the occasional bird or insect.

I moved cautiously over to the car, I looked in through the window and noticed keys in the ignition. I looked around again to check nobody was about. I opened the door and got in. I looked around the car, it was immaculately clean, like it just been freshly valeted, I opened the glove box and stared at what was infront me, not believing my own eyes.

It was my own gun.

Chapter 4

Sunday 11am - Enrico

Enrico looked over his shoulder as he drove through Los Angeles towards Beverly Hills. He could of sworn that Black Chevy was tailing him. He had certainly noticed it three blocks back at the lights. His mind was racing as to who he might of upset recently, he certainly had a habit of opening his mouth and speaking his mind, even if his Capo kept reminding him to keep his opinions to himself or its going to get him killed. Maybe it was the local Coke dealer who swore at him a few days ago when he hadn’t paid him the full asking price, or maybe it was just some jealous husband. Enrico has been told about the mafia ten commandments recently, never cheat with another Cosa Nostra’s wife was certainly on that list and Enrico has certainly cheated with a few.

Enrico swung the car at the last minute into a small left hand turn and pushed the pedal hard. The old Buick coughed and roared to life gaining speed. Enrico watched his mirror, nothing there yet, he kept looking flicking his eyes forward just in time to miss the trash can jutting out. He swerved the big car just missing it and as he looked back he saw a black car behind him in the distance.

“ shit “ he muttered and started driving faster eyes darting for somewhere to go next.

Enrico saw the turning on his right, he took it hard with all four wheels screeching as he rounded the corner, the car straining with the speed and pressure of the tight turn, he pushed down harder on the accelerator as he looked in his rear view mirror.

He was entering an industrial area of old warehouses, Enrico knew his car wouldn’t outrun the Chevy, he needed to do something quickly. He went around a corner and saw it just in time, a thin opening to an old warehouse, it looked unused and Enrico guided the car straight in through the narrow gap and pulled the car over to the side cutting the engine and turning around to watch through the back window. From his angle he could see the road but from the road and direction he would be unseen. He waited a few minutes and heard nothing. His heart was beating fast, sweat had started to drip above his eyes as he wiped it away with his shirt sleeve.

~

Enrico Gold had just turned twenty five, he lived alone in a 1 bed apartment near the beach and had been around crime families all his life. Last year there was a big war back east, back where his real home was in New York. His father has summoned him to his Lexington Avenue Headquarters and given him a set of instructions. Go west, go to LA and go find Leandro Tommasini. He had argued with his father about standing by his side, but his father had been in no mood to discuss it and his personal bodyguard Tito had driven him to the the airport and made sure he made the flight.

Enrico had got in touch with Leandro, he remembered him from when he was a young boy growing up in New Jersey, the big man with a big beard who had been friends with Enrico’s father all his life had taken him into the family as one of his own. He taught him everything he needed to know, he used to spend hours with him up in the hills outside LA practicing with all types of guns and targets. Leandro had used the cover story that Gold being a popular name back east was no way connected to the Gold family, most people had bought it or so Enrico had thought.

~

A noise further back in the warehouse caught Enrico’s attention, some homeless people were moving towards him, there must of been ten of them and they looked angry at being disturbed. They looked mean unwashed and like they hadn’t eaten for months, a few of them were holding iron rods. Enrico jumped out the car and pulled out his gun pointing it towards them to ward them off. They stopped and just looked at him, a few of them pointing at him and the car.

“ move away “ Enrico shouted and waved with his gun. That wasn’t such a clever idea and as he heard the sound behind him he started to turn around but it was too late, a thud and crack to the back of head and everything went black.

Chapter 5

I stared at my gun, trying to work out how it possibly could have had gotten there. It was kind of freaking me out, the sweat had started again in the hot desert sun and as I looked around the car I notice 2 big bottles of water sitting on the back seat. I grabbed one unscrewed the top and guzzled back the whole 2 litres pausing only twice for air.

That felt much better. I looked in the rearview mirror and just saw the road stretching away as far as the eye could see. I then noticed my reflection.

The tan suited me, my once short dark hair was now touching my shoulders and the beard that covered most of my face needed a good trim. I also had lost a lot of weight by regularly going to the gym 3 times a week and putting my body through a vigorous regime of exercise and diet. I was nothing like the Sam Gold of New York now, unrecognizable to the closest of people that once knew me. I started the car and headed back to Vegas and my apartment.

~

The two men watched Sam Gold drive off. The smaller man of the two picked up the cradle and dialed the New York area code number.

The phone rang once and picked up.

“ its done “ he said to the person 3,000 miles away.

“ did he buy it? “ asked the voice down the end.

“ I think so “ he confirmed

“ You think? “

“ Well he can’t of remembered being drugged, we got his gun and put it in the car as you instructed, he looked very confused, probably thought he was having some divine experience, we left enough water to flush out any remains. “

“ Good, get on the next plane home “

“ yes Boss “ said the little man and put the phone down.

He looked at the larger man, nodded at him and started to walk out of the door at the back of the church towards their car which was hidden around the back.

~

The air conditioning was blowing out nice and cold as I drove through the hot midday streets of Vegas. The time on the dashboard told me it was near midday, I had missed my earlier meeting and had totally lost track of time. I approached the street that ran parallel to the street my apartment was on and as usual I parked up and walked the rest. I was always watching just incase and as I came around the corner onto my street I noticed the black sedan with two guys looking directly across the street at the entrance to my apartment. I approached the sedan from behind getting a good look at the guys with a sideways glance. I carried on slightly and stopped outside an electrical store pretending to be interested in the many cameras on display.

They were not Feds that’s for sure, so who had sent these guys. My change of appearance had obviously not alerted them to me, so I decided it would be best to watch them watching my apartment, ofcourse this could be a coincidence but I learnt long ago that there is no such thing.

I walked along to a coffee shop and walked in. I slid into the booth by the window that gave   me a perfect view of the black sedan. A pretty young waitress approached and I picked up the menu and ordered a pastrami on rye and black coffee. Not the most healthiest of options, I would just have to work harder in the gym later.

The coffee came after few minutes, it was pretty good coffee by all accounts, strong black and hot, which normally ticked all my boxes. I watched the black sedan.

I picked up a paper that had been left on the table, and pretended to read it while watching the two men in the car flicking my eyes across to the entrance of my apartment. I was interrupted briefly when my pastrami sandwich came, and as I munched on it I realized how hungry I was. I ordered another coffee and some hot apple pie with one scoop of vanilla icecream. The two men sat in the black sedan. My apple pie and coffee came. 1 hour past and nothing happened. I needed to get into my apartment, there was no other entrance, I was on the 2rd floor so a window was not an option. And then my answer came. The two guys got out of the car and started to head over to my apartment.

I left enough cash on the table to cover what I had eaten, and walked out onto the street to watch them. One stood around the entrance as a look out while the other went it. Now was my chance, I crossed the road and continued to walk along the sidewalk looking in shop windows. I noticed the guy was about 6 foot, medium build and judging by the bulge under his suit jacket he was definitely carrying. He must have gone to a cheap tailor, not like the good Italian suit tailors we have in New York.

As I approached him he was checking his pockets for a light to have a smoke, he caught my eye and I smiled while reaching down into my trouser pocket for a lighter, I balled up one hand around the other hand as it came out of my pocket cupping the two together to appear I was covering the lighter for him to so he could lean forward and get a light. I then opened up both hands as a magician would to make something disappear and within those seconds of him looking surprised I hit him hard on the nose and sent him flying back into the doorway entrance.

I dragged him further into the entrance and propped him up around the corner out of sight. I then headed for the stairs towards my apartment. I took the stairs quickly and silently and as I came up to the second floor I could hear noises coming from my apartment down the hall. I walked towards my apartment realizing my gun was still in the glove box of the car, and that I hadn’t taken the guy downstairs’s gun, I was out of practice. I saw that my door had been kicked in, I came up against the wall and did a quick peek into the hall of my apartment. I entered and could hear the noise coming from the living room further down the hall. I quietly approached and saw the man going through my papers in my little antique desk, I crept up behind him picking up the nearest thing that I could find, which happened to be an old figurine I had bought when I was in San Francisco and with all my strength whacked him over the head. He went down and was out cold. I moved into the kitchen and opened the cupboard under the sink and took out my tool box. I removed the roll of carpet tape and headed back to the lounge. I lifted him onto a chair and secured his wrists behind his back and tied his ankles together. I then went back downstairs to retrieve the other guy. He was still in the same place where I had left him, but was starting to come round and sit up, I reached into his jacket and grabbed his gun. He looked up at me his eyes wide with surprise.

“ Get up “ I said pointing the gun at him.

He slowly got up his hands coming up in surrender.

“ move “ and gestured with the gun towards the stairs.

Once back in my apartment I instructed him to get a chair and sit facing away from the already tied up man who was still out cold. I kept the gun trained on him.

“ move and your dead “ I said as I leant forward and started to tie him up.

Once he was properly secure I walked into the kitchen which overlooked the street and looked out the window. I could see their car, nobody was around.

My mind was racing, my heart beating faster than normal with adrenaline. Had I been compromised, only a few knew I was alive and my whereabouts. I then remembered the letter inside my jacket pocket and pulled it out.

I looked at the gold letters again on the envelope, GF. I tore open the envelope.

Chapter 6  - Leandro and Sam

LeandroTommasini sat in his headquarters on Pacific Coast Highway Los Angeles. His headquarters was actually a hotel on Huntingdon Beach he had acquired some years ago during a game of poker in Vegas and was the only legitimate part of his business. It served him well and had enormous advantages.

He was standing on the balcony of his suite which was situated on the 32nd floor and covered most of the east wing of the hotel. He had just been told by one of his Wiseguys that Enrico Gold had been taken and that nobody knew by who or where he was.

Leandro was furious and had virtually blamed the Wiseguy for letting Enrico out of his sight. Enrico was like a son to Leandro, a promise he had made to his good friend Sam a long time ago when they were back east.

Leandro had grown up in New Jersey, his parents lived next door to Sam’s mother. Sam’s father was never around as far as Leandro could remember, their were rumours but since Sam had never told Leandro and he hand’t asked he never knew for sure. Sam had taken a liking to Leandro, Sam was 2 years older, and since they were only children they grew up like being brothers. They played everyday after school, rode they bikes together down to the icecream parlour but as Sam hit high school things had started to change. Sam had gotten involved with some guy who used to get him to run errands, he got paid cash which was always good for the movies, he would sneak Leandro into the older rated films and always treated him to sweets and popcorn. Sam had suddenly grown, and when a scrawny Leandro started high school it was Sam who protected him whenever there was trouble. Sam had also introduced him to this Gangster and soon Sam and Leandro where doing errands for cash.

Sam had finished College with top results, he could of gone to Harvard his stats were that good, his teachers said he was one of the brightest kids of his era, instead Sam had decided making money was more important, he liked doing deals, moving things from one location to another and earning a profit. Leandro looked up to Sam and once he finished college a couple of years later Sam was starting to get himself noticed. The guy who had started them with errands was now a respected Mademan for a family in New York and had asked them if they had wanted to become associates. Sam and Leandro weren’t stupid, they knew what they were entering, it wasn’t about the cash anymore, it was all about becoming Men of Honour. Respected in the local community. No one really called it Mafia, the word “ family “ was used alot even though they weren’t related, except for Sam’s cousin Rico uptown in New York who was becoming a known hardman for another “ family “.

Sam hardly saw his cousin, but Leandro knew that Sam didn’t like him, his methods were violent with many rumours of Rico going over the top and not impressing the local Don, not like the way Sam and Leandro had been shown.

A year later both Leandro and Sam were hauling a major bank operation, 4 of their current guys had gone down with food poisoning and they were short of hired help. Rico had gotten wind of the operation and had offered some men in return for a 20% cut. They got the job done and made it out safely but one of Rico’s men had gone mental and shot 3 guards for no reason saying they were looking at him funny. Sam had gone mad at Rico and kept back 10% because of it saying he would need expenses to quieten down some officials. There was a massive argument, guns were drawn and threats were made, the Don of that Rico’s family had met with the Don of Sam and Leandro’s and it was smoothed over. The Don of Rico’s was later killed in a boating accident later that month and with not many of the crew to take over Rico had stepped up. Many rumours circulated as to what went down, the popular one was that Rico didn’t like the way his Don had handled the Sam and Leandro affair and had punished him for it ultimately with his death.

The Don of Sam and Leandro was pleased with their work however and had Authed Sam with his own crew in New Jersey, his hometown. Leandro became Sam’s Right Hand Man, there wasn’t another he trusted more with his life. Leandro was Sam’s best man when he married Maria, the daughter of Carlos Trapattoni, a Scillian man who owned one of the finest Italian Restaurants in the whole of New Jersey, some would say the whole East Coast. He was like the father to Sam he never knew.

Sam and Maria had spent the previous couple of years courting, he would take her to the best restaurants, going to the theatre and socializing at charity galas. She brought out the best in Sam, she taught him how to make and cook pasta with many a night ending up covered in flower making love on the kitchen floor. Everyone could see that they were destined to spend the rest of their lives together.

Years passed with the crew growing in size, Sam’s own little family was growing too. Maria had produced Sam a daughter who they named Gina after his mother and 3 years later his first son Enrico named after Sam’s father that he had never known. Tragedy had struck the Gold family though a few years later when Maria had been killed in car crash, the kids who were strapped in the back got away with cuts and bruises. A young Earner at the time Alberto Postino had claimed it was an attack on the family, people were talking on the streets that it had come from a mob in uptown New York as a message. Sam had quickly sent the kids away to some relatives in Florida. The following months Sam had kept it together, but Leandro was concerned. He would check in on Sam every night to find him sometimes standing at the kitchen work top rolling out pasta and a big framed photo of Maria watching him.

Sam had known what the young Earner had meant though and knew who it had come from, and later that year an organized hit was made on Rico Ricci’s Right Hand Man, even though Sam had avenged his beloved Maria’s killer, he knew the real problem was Rico and that one day he would have to face the sadistic bastard. He had sent Leandro to LA, he knew the Godfather there and knew their was a opportunity to have his own crew, he knew it would be good for business and that Leandro had earnt it. He loved Leandro as a brother and didn’t want any harm to come to him in New Jersey. He made Leandro promise that should anything ever happen to him, he knew where the kids were and would always look out for them. Leandro had said at the time that Sam didn’t even need to mention it.

That last night as Sam had dinner with Leandro, Alberto and Tito his most trusted bodyguard, he said “ this is what it is all about, family and trust “ he stood and held a glass towards them.

Leandro slammed his fist against the balcony railing and walked back inside. He sat in his favorite armchair and picked up the phone dialed a number he knew all too well.

“ Hello? “ a voice croaked on the other end.

“ Alberto its Leandro, we have a problem “

WhereWasI sits down to wait for more,

Holy shit guy, that's a long story. I generally hate longer stories, but this was clearly well written with a plot thought out well in advance. The number of characters playing significant roles is a bit overwhelming for this type of story in my opinion, but I feel with the descriptive and intertwined nature of the story you can pull it all together.

Gonna go off topic for a sec; because, honestly, people have spoken about how there aren't any good street threads worth reading over the past year. To them I say you pass on threads like this for Kuku's bull shit. You have no one to blame but yourselves for thinking the streets have fallen so drastically when there are still good stories and speeches that simply get over looked for not insulting someone. It isn't easy to make a post that doesn't look like spam in these threads, but even spam to get them attention really would be better than the threads simply getting ignored almost completely due to a lack of replies.

Keep up the good work PUREGOLD, I'm really looking forward to the end of this story. I have an idea, but I'd still love to know how it ends.

Chapter 7

Gina strolled into the Headquarters and noticed that everyone was looking twitchy. She thought that maybe word was out about her night’s activities, you can’t keep a secret for long around here.

“ wassup “ she asked one of the young Earner’s sitting in the lounge area.

“ the boss has had a delivery “

“ oh yeah, what sort of delivery? “ She asked.

“ word is the guy was brought on the boss’s private plane from the west coast “

Gina’s froze, her mind racing, this surely wasn’t possible, he was safe, no one knew where he was except for 2 others and she trusted them. She looked at the Earner who was busy reading the paper.

“ catch ya later Aldo “ she said casually as she walked off towards the boss’s office.

Gina knocked once and entered not waiting for answer. The room was empty. She looked around and decided to go downstairs to the cellar.

The building was an old mansion on the outskirts of New York, towards The Hamptons, an area for the rich and famous. It had garages to the rear of the house, with stables which used to house thorough bred race horses, now being used as extra storage. The gardens were maintained by gardeners and spread for several acres around the property down towards the coast, a single windy road dividing the green manicured lawns at the front of the house down to the main street. The house was not visible from the street, a big iron gate with a security house stopped anything from just driving in and big trees and thick foliage lined the front to stop anyone from spying in on the residence. It was a perfect cover.

Gina skipped down the stone stairs two at a time and walked along the damp corridor of the cellar. She passed through numerous bottles of wines imported from various regions around the world and entered the area her boss liked to refer as his special interrogation area.

Rico stood there in a black long sleeved polo shirt and black pants, his face red and flustered, slightly sweating. He looked up as Gina approached his eyes wild with pleasure.

Gina noticed him straight away, how could she not, Enrico Gold son of Samuel Gold, thought to have fled New York last year before the war had erupted between the two families. Word was at the time he had gone to Europe, but searches in Italy never confirmed he was there. Recent spots in America had sent her boss into a frenzy, who seemed intent on killing Sam Gold’s family once and for all.

Enrico turned to look at Gina, he could’t see straight, his vision blurred with blood dripping into his eyes, all he could hear was a ringing in his ears, probably from the fist that had knocked him out as they had got off the private jet. He blinked, trying to focus.

“ Rico is that who I think it is “ Gina finally said.

“ Yeah, Sam’s only son! “ he triumphantly exclaimed.

“ what happened to the sister “ Gina asked

“ Dead “ Rico said, seemingly unhappy that he had not been there to do it himself.

“ oh? “

“ The car crash that killed Maria had damaged the daughter’s kidney’s, her organs packed up” he sneered

“ well thats convenient “ She mumbled.

“ yeah wish I could of ripped her fookin heart out “

Gina looked at her Boss, he was enjoying every minute of this, to make sure no one from the Gold family survived. Gina felt uneasy, Rico looked out of control, like he was high on something, and Enrico was going to suffer.

He was now looking at the table to his left which had an array of metal objects and sharp utensils when Tony came running down the corridor.

“ Boss our two guys in Vegas haven’t reported in “ Tony gasped, out of breath from running down the stairs. He was badly out of shape.

“ what ya mean “ Rico’s eyes wild “ how long since ya heard from them?”

“ its been over 2 hours”

“ call them again and get Vinny down there now!” Rico shouted and stormed passed Tony and Gina towards his private elevator. Tony turned around and walked off in some sort of strop, he didn’t like Rico speaking to him like that in front of a Capo and showing him lack of respect, even if he was his Boss.

Gina breathed a sigh of relief, her brother had probably been saved from some torture she really didn’t want to think about. She thought of formulating a plan to get him out of there. The odds were against her, even if she got him out of the cellar then there were all the people upstairs, even if she could shoot her wait through them she still had to get to her car out the back and past the security at the front gates. She would wait for a better moment and prayed Rico was kept busy upstairs.

Deep in an underground car park under a hotel on Huntingdon Beach six men stood around a black van. They were all dressed in black cargo pants, black cotton t-shirts, with utility belts that had various military style equipment attached. They stood there waiting for their Leader to give them their orders. The Captain of the group was busy looking at a map when the elevator pinged and out walked Leandro. He approved of his A class hit squad, to the normal eye they would look like any military or police unit.

“ boss “ the captain nodded.

“ here is the address “ Leandro handed his Captain the piece of paper, “ the jet will be fueled and ready in 1 hour “

“ yes boss understood “

Alberto Postino was having a similar meeting with 3 of his best sharpshooters.

“ Go to Rico’s in the Hamptons, stay out of sight and call me every hour for further instructions “

“ Yes Boss “ said the newly promoted Mademan.

Vinny put the phone down. His orders were to check out an address downtown Vegas, two goombas were watching and hadn’t checked in. Vinny thought they were probably drinking in one of the bars or watching the naked ladies in one of the many strip clubs. The girl who was straddled across his groin her breasts swaying as she rocked back and forth smiled at him, now he had put the phone down, she lent forward her full breasts touching his face, she gasped as she brought herself up and lowered herself down. Vinny thought his boss can wait for a while as he grabbed her rounded arse playfully and brought his hips up to meet hers.

I stood in the kitchen having read the letter, my stomach turned and I felt my whole life spin  before my eyes, memories, pictures of the past coming back to haunt me. I grabbed the side of the sink, my mind thinking. The two guys in my lounge would be the first place I would start, I opened the draw besides the sink, grabbed the gun and silencer that lay there and walked back into the lounge.
