Drinking at the local cemetery, Melis was having a great time by herself. Tapping out a little beat on her leg as she took another shot of giggle water. She was not far off from the giggling part of the drink. Leaning back against a headstone, she started to sing a little tune she heard at a local spot.
"Out by the alley.."
Melis sat straight up looking for the source of the voice that she heard singing along. No one was there. The voice stopped. Sighing, Melis closed her eyes again only to have them snap open as soon as the singing started again.
"Down in the alley..."
Getting up and swaying on her feet she looked around again. This time taking a few wobbly steps around before sitting back down on the ground. Her head was spinning now and she regretted getting up so fast. Should have known better as she had been out here drinking for hours in the sun until it had gotten darker.
Opening her eyes the headstones around her seemed to be moving. Was it heat making it seem like that? No, that angel over there was definitely moving their lips. As Melis narrowed her eyes, it was like turning up the volume on the angel statue and what was coming from it.
"Back in the alley where the dead wake up.."
Closing her eyes once more, she waited a few minutes before opening them up again. Taking a breath as she noticed a bunch of people had suddenly appeared. Some were walking around, some were dancing. There was an old couple waltzing around the headstones as if it was some intricate dance they had done before.
A young man was playing catch with a little boy along the walls. There were a few with faces that were distorted though and Melis thought that was pretty odd. A few young kids were around a headstone with a bird on it. Were they checking in on a family member that passed away? When they turned her way she could see beaks coming out of their faces.
Standing up more slowly, she hoped closing her eyes would make these people go away. They couldn't possibly be real, right? Opening her eyes they were still there. Encircling her. The closer they got the more panicked she became. Her heart was racing and as one just about touched her, she could hear them in her head.
"Everything ends."
As the hand reached out to touch her, Melis fell backwards. Hitting her head off one of the headstones and everything went fuzzy for a moment. Suddenly no one was there.
"What in the actual hell was that?"
