The Giver by Lois Lowry. I am unsure that I really think it is a children's book but it is my favourite in that category. Clearly it is not meant for toddlers but older children. Great book though. Still love it even in my 30s. |

The Hobbit by J R R Tolkien. Any book by Tolkien that stems from the Silmarillion is a 100% work of art, and it's hilarious that the Hobbit is a children's book. Amazing how one of the greatest novel and film adaptions comes from a single kids book, ey? |

The best children's authors did a boatload of drugs. Alice in Wonderland is a good example, if that was even intended to be a children's book and not just some dude tripping balls in front of a typewriter. Also, anything by Dr. Seuss is amazing. He was the original hip hop artist. |
