Tornado I named the dog I acquired from Luccini at the Swag stand. I was used to handling big dogs back home so I was up to the challenge. The dog was sturdy and seemed to be glued to my side once I feed him a good meal. No longer would he rule over a kingdom of scrap metal. No I could use a good, loyal dog in my line of work.Especially after hearing about the wild and crazy Durdens that regularly came around. The Durdens I knew very little about but I intended to find out. No one seemed to know much about these Durdens, only that they were a recurring enemy. You could kill them burying them 6' down yet they magic returnrd. My grandfather taught me there's no such thing as magic only undiscovered facts. I would get to the bottom of this truth. I witness this wild crew of Durdens attack the headquarters of my family. I helped back them off the wall and chased them from the gate. We successfully beat back the boar hunt of Durdens. But still the nagging questions remained. The only clue I had to work with was the fact they came from Delaware. I decided to check this Delaware gang out for myself. Armed with only Tornado by my side and some handle tools and a flashlight I was ready. I worn dark clothes to hide in the darkness on this quest. I made my way to Delaware in an old beat up truck rather than take my flashy car. I would try to blend in with my sleathy skills. If not Tornado had a healthy bite. I planned to learn everything I could about this Tyler Durden and his crew of regenerating fighters. I knew it wasn't possible for the dead to rise again. Yet repeatedly he emerged from the darkness to reek havoc in NY. So if he wasn't a zombie, than what was the story. There had to be an answer for this unconventional gang of thugs. The first trip to Durdenville left me empty handed. I returned several more times. Some of those visits I had my crew of bodyguards tag along. I managed to acquire some clothes they used and I felt it would help me blend in more. I ran into a few of them and managed to pass the test. Or at least I believe I did. Finally a breakthrough came when I stumbled on what I thought was the Durdens headquarters. It turned out to be a basement Fight Club. I supposed this was where they trained for their incursions in my city on a regular bases. It still didn't solve the mystery of regeneration. But I could see how they tested each other in battle. I almost got pulled into the crowd fighting in the streets at one point. I was lucky to escape via a tunnel. I followed the path rather than risk staying near the brawl. I was determined to get to truth. But rats running past my feet made my vigorous efforts waver slightly. Ugh the things I find myself doing. Then I hit on my first major discovery. I found an abandoned warehouse that might have served as their home base. There were storage rooms, an office with empty file cabinets covered in dust. On one wall was a bulletin board. Moving closer I saw newspaper clippings with a timeline of dates and attacks. While inside the office, looking in the file cabinets with squeaky draws, I heard a sound of glass crunching under feet. Of course the one night I came alone. I ducked under the abandoned desk to hide. Someone was inside the building. I wasn't sure if it was a patrol or just random thug lurking about. But I didn't want to confront whoever it was head on without backup. Minutes seemed like hours ticking on the clock. The door handle rattled as someone entered with a flashlight cutting through the darkness. I was relieved once the door shut again with a tight slam. I waited under the desk for what seemed like ages my legs growing numb with effort to stay hidden. The thought ran through my mind I'm not even getting paid for this when I could be off making easy money. I was almost lulled into sleep when I fell out from under the desk. Fortunately, I heard no rushing feet. It was then I saw a folder peaking out from under a bookshelf. I saw it by the moonlight that pierced the darkness of the room. I slided over to it and grabbed the folder. A note slide out that referenced a connection to Squishy and Thalia. For a moment my heart stopped. There wasn't much in the folder and it was labeled project spawning operations. It contained papers in a code I couldn't read. But not many pages. I gathered up what few papers I found inside the office and scraps in the file cabinets. Then I tucked them away and head for home to review the various scraps of pages later. Upon leaving I looked around the large warehouse noting a huge amount of chains anchored to the walls and ceiling with framework where something heavy once sat in the center of the concrete floor. Whatever had been here was clearly gone now. They must have it at some new facility. After some rest I would be back on this journey of truth. |

After returning from the Durdens abandoned warehouse I sent a team of bodyguards to visit the sight in the daylight. I put together a crew of Pavlo26, Sebastian26, Hiro26, zda3baby26 and Chucky as they were among my best. I already had them doing Durden raids successfully. Pavlo26 was placed in charge as he is my best Bodyguard. The team was to take photos, gather any lose paperwork left behind or grab anything unusual. While I waited for their return from the mission, I laid out the papers I gathered including a few bites of scraps. So my desk was covered in pages I had acquired. I had pages in some secret code. I would have to figure it out if I could. I noticed an odd notation. TNT was listed and crossed out and relisted. Where the Durdens considering the use of Dynamite in our city? I took a moment to feed Tornado and then walk him. He seemed well trained. I thought about his owner that lost him to date, but pushed it aside. The person let Tornado sleep outside in all kinds of weather and made poor choices. It took 3 baths to get him fully clean. I also removed some ticks and noticed a few scars. Upon returning I found my door ajar. Looking around quickly for whoever may have existed but finding nothing. Inside it looked like someone moved the papers searching. I gathered them up not sure if any were missing. Then I secured them from further intrusive behavior. Until my bodyguards returned I would give this a rest. I had business to attend to and a Boss waiting for results. I would leave Tornado in charge of security at my place. Let him bite the next person sly enough to think they can rob me. |

I was surprised to meet TheTripleDeuce on the street walking Tornado. He seemed to know I was investigating the Durdens and that someone rifled through my place. Clearly he was keeping tabs on me. Tornado didn't find TheTripleDeuce to be a threat to me. He apparently was similar to my Boss except he was smoking a cigar, possibly Cuban, but I didn't know much about cigars. He wasn't a Durden so that was a good start. The city had a small Durdens invasion a few hours after I sent my crew of bodyguards to investigate. They still were not back. It was passed the expected return point. I had to consider there may have been an unforseen incident. I might have to go with another team tomorrow. Fighting back the Durdens was challenging, and it left me with uncertainty of the timing. Maybe it was a coincidence or maybe it was part of my searching for clues. With each hour that passed it made me consider the mission today was a failure. It was then that Tornado got up and watched my door. Pavlo26 entered with Sebastian26 close behind. Three men were missing. But than dragging Chucky in were Hiro26 and zda3baby26. Chucky looked warnout and was bleeding from his shoulder. I motioned to put him on the comfortable chair nearby the door. The other two had a few scratches and road dirt. I brought a drink over after pouring it from my crystal decanter. " Here Chucky take this, Hiro26 go fetch the doctor." "Boss, you'll want to see this," Pavlo26 said from behind me. I turned and went over to the table where he was waiting with Sebastian26. Pavlo26 first pulled out a long vial with a green substance inside capped with a stopper. It looked like something a doctor would use or a science guy. I took it in hand studying it carefully. Close up there seemed to be a dash of yellowish material towards the top. It contained no cracks that I could see. "Okay we need to be careful with this sample. Maybe the doctor could tell us about it.". Chucky moaned briefly and I turned to see zda3baby26 pressing his wound, to slow the bleeding. "Sebastian26 go in the bathroom and grab a towel for Chucky." Then I returned my attention to Pavlo26. "What else do you have for me?" Pavlo26 set some crunched up papers on the table. Then he reached into his pocket and pulled out a photo. " I found this behind one of the file cabinets." I took the photo in hand. It was a black and white photo taken of a group of Durdens in front of the building. "Okay so a Durden photo. Not sure how that will help." "No Boss look at the third person in the back row." Pavlo26 said pointing to the picture. I looked again more carefully and saw a woman in man's clothing. "Wait she isn't a Durden." " Exactly," Pavlo26 sighed. Then he handed me a metal tag. I took it curiously. In my hand I examined the piece for a few moments and even flipped it over to check the back. Spawn 4 #XQRI5473. I slipped it into my pocket. Next Sebastian26 finished giving the towel to zda3baby26 and handed me a torn piece of map. "Sorry Boss in the struggle the Durdens pulled away most of this map. It showed underground tunnels under the building leading to another facility or multiple facilities. I wasn't completely down reviewing it when the fighting started.". He looked down avoiding my face. "Well we will just added it to the collection of clues. Now where is the camera? Please tell me you didn't leave it in the car." Pavlo26 coughed, "About that Boss, it was destroyed by two Durdens." "What about the bulletin board?" "Boss we checked the whole place. The board was gone." "Is there anything else?" "No Boss," Pavlo26 said just as the doctor arrived. When the doctor came in, I stopped him as he moved to help Chucky. " Doctor, have you ever seen anything like this," I said raising the green/yellowish tube to him The doctor took the vial in hand and examined it holding it up the the light on the ceiling. " No I haven't seen this before. I could test it for you." I quickly took back the vial. " I'm not sure yet since it's the only sample.". Truth be told I wasn't completely comfortable with the doctor to trust him leaving the building with Durdens roaming around. " Doc, just patch my guy up and leave," I said walking out of the room after gathering the papers from the table. |

Ruby sat with the four physical clues: The metal tag: Spawn 4 #XQRI5473 The green/yellow vial The encrypted/crumpled paperwork The torn underground map Plus the black-and-white photograph of the mysterious woman, who wore men's clothing "Do I dare go back to Delaware? Hmm no the Durdens already know people have been in their area and may very well set a trap or worse. I don't want more Durdens surging the city before I get to the bottom of this puzzle." Holding the metal tag in hand, Ruby considers her options. Perhaps a metal worker or machinist would know. I need to see someone in manufacturing that deals with metal. I could send a bodyguard around to find someone that specializes in metal engraving for perhaps a factory. Could this be from a shipping container, equipment tag or an actual person in containment? Standing up Ruby paced the floor, "wait doesn't Spitman have an uncle that works at a factory? I could get Spitman to nose around for a person to explain this clue." Next Ruby moves on to the photo. " This i could probably have enlarged to possibly see more details.". She set aside the photo. Then onto the encrypted paperwork. "This requires a professional codebreaker. Where does one actually find this kind of person? I know the feds have whole teams for stuff like this, but a mobster going to the feds is unheard of," Ruby laughs. Turning to look out the window and sighing. "If only I knew a dirty fed. Or perhaps some nerdy school bookworm that would be able to sort this for me." The underground map was next, but Ruby shuffled to the side with the encrypted paperwork. Instead focusing on the vial. " What exactly is in this container? It's not blood, unless it was some weird little green Martian," another laugh escaped. " Maybe it's a healing agent of some sort, or medicine to hype up the Durdens to attack so recluse. What else might it be? And could I separate part of it to have it tested and still retain some encase the tester is untrustworthy." Pondering further Ruby held the vial up to the morning sunlight shining in her window. "What if this was supposed to be in refrigeration and perhaps that's why it's this weird color? For now it will have to wait. I have business to deal with at that new drug front." Ruby took off towards her flower shop. Her grandma would probably already be there opening up. Ruby was just about to cross the street when she noticed the fresh stack of newspapers delivered still wrapped in a bundle. It was the headline that caught her eye. FIRE TORCHES WAREHOUSE IN DELAWARE Ruby bent down to try and wiggle one free. But the shop owner came up the sidewalk quickly yelling at her in a foreign language. Ruby backed away and crossed the street. It could wait until the paper lad held it out for sale. Not much of a wait since Ruby needed to start her day with the ledger and send her crew out. They would probably be already out behind the rear delivery door waiting anyway. " Good morning Grandma, " Ruby said with a smile. She noticed a young man helping to lug the buckets of flowers outside for the morning. "Ruby dear, I have coffee ready inside and the fresh muffins you love." Her grandma said as she reached to hug her baby girl. "And don't be involved with those bad men anymore," she whispered close to Ruby's ear. "You have a real business now to run! Chase those hoodlums out back away." "Grandma, how do you think I afford all this? I'll give it up as soon as I can," she reassured her grandma. But how true was that? Would she go legitimate or was it a hollow statement to make an old woman happy? |

Backup Team of Fat_Ass_Matthias, Octavius_Terris2 and Roy were sent in encase of issues when Pavlo26 team didn't get back in a timely manner. Standing at the NY pier waiting for a shipment, I wasn't sure just how to handle the missing three men. We already had Durdens invade. I didn't want to cause more Durdens to swarm the city. Apparently from the newspaper a fire was used to erase any further evidence. The men could already all be dead. Pavlo26 approached with the shipping documents. "Boss the guys are loading the cargo now." "Thank you Pavlo26. How is Chucky doing today?" "I think he will need a few days Boss." "I'm still worried about the backup crew I sent for you. I don't think it is a good idea to go back to Delaware yet, however I don't want to leave family hanging without help either." "Boss, the Durdens probably already killed the guys and torched them in the building." "I don't know Pavlo26, " my fingers gripping the paperwork tightly. " I have a gut feeling I just can't shake. I think they are still out there." Folding the paperwork, I placed it in my purse. "If I have to I'll go alone. One person is easier to not stand out." "Boss, let me go. I know the layout and frankly I'm built a little better for the grunt work than you." I gave Pavlo26 a look. " You think I'm delicate? I didn't make it this far being a pushover!" Pavlo26 gave a sheepish grin but quickly masked it. “I'm saying you shouldn't be crawling around underground tunnels if I can do it instead.” "Let's make a plan at dinner tonight. In the meantime swing by the boys residence to see if they turned up at all. Maybe they had to lay low due to injuries like Chucky." Pavlo26 shook his head clearly not wanting to agree, yet we continued with the business at hand. |

Mayaswafford was a Corrupt Agent. I was meeting him on a rooftop in Queens. When I got there I saw Mayaswafford looking over the edge of the roof. I approached with caution. No one else was around and my bodyguard Pavlo26 hung back by the door. Mayaswafford turned hearing me approaching. Mayaswafford was nervous and sweating. "Ruby I can't do this anymore. He said slipping me a small bag. I placed it in my pocket and moved closer. "Mayaswafford, tell me what is going on?" He turned once again to look over the edge. " I was pulled into internal affairs today. They are investigating me for being on the take. I'm ruined! I'll make my family ashamed of me. My pension will be lost and I'll end up behind bars. We know cops in jail don't last long." " Mayaswafford, you think I haven't considered this possibility? Relax I said touching his shoulder. "Walk with me, I don't like the edge of the roof." We stopped in the middle. I saw concern on Pavlo26 face even from this distance. His hand reaching inside his jacket. I shook my head at him, but he didn't seem to relax. " Close your eyes Mayaswafford, I want you to think of a nice tropical island you would want to disappear to if I could bring an end to this situation for you. mayaswafford sighed, closing his eyes to think of a place. " Tell me what you see, perhaps a nice beach an a drink in hand.?" Mayaswafford smiled just before I stepped back a few steps. " Yes I always wanted to take Mabel, " then the shot to the back of his head ended his words. Lowering the gun as Pavlo26 ran over, " I couldn't let him jump. His family will be covered now by the police union as no charges were officially filed yet. He will look like he died in the line of duty. Take care of the rumor of a purse snatcher chased to the roof." I wiped my gun pushing it into my purse. "Fragile you said, " I raised my eyebrows. "Yeah Pavlo26 I am just like you say." I left through the stairs rather than the elevator. My three missing guys were still mia. Dinner going over the ledgers with the boys resolved nothing. At midnight Pavlo26 and I will head towards Jersey. I always take care of loose ends even with family. Rumor had it that the Durdens were referred to in some parts of the country as the Unwanted. Some even believed they were clones. I couldn't say for certain, but after everything I'd uncovered, the rumor was becoming harder to dismiss. But I would solve this mystery one way or another. |

The plans to head out to rescue the missing squad changed when Hiro26 reported a payphone call was received from Roy. He was calling from a gas station in Jersey. Pavlo26 and I headed out with a team following. We brought along a doctor for the crew. Fat_Ass_Matthias, Octavius_Terris2 and Roy where finally on the radar again. Both Fat_Ass_Matthias, Octavius_Terris2 were confused about where they had been. Exhausted, dehydrated and roughed up. Roy had a scatchy memory only recalling bits and pieces. Roy recalled being injected with something and placed in a holding call. The doctor concluded that all three men where given some kind of drug to erase their memory but it didn't work as effectively on Roy. So I focused on Roy and what information he could provide me with to get an idea of what happened. Two items were recovered before they escaped. One may have been acquired before they were placed in a cell. All three had their wallets pickpocketed by someone. So they would have to get replacement licenses etc. There cash was certainly not the reason the wallets were boosted. One item was some kind of connector piece to equipment. I had no clue what it was for and would need help figuring that piece of the puzzle out. The second was a bit of a shock. Octavius_Terris2 had picked up a scrap of material that looked like it came from a Durdens clothes in the holding cell. That could mean someone else was involved and not the Durdens catching my crew. So now I'm left to ponder who held my guys since it wasn't the Durdens, unless they had a Durden that went rogue or was uncontrollable. This little project of mine was quickly becoming bigger than I had planned. There was now many moving parts. Delaware would be off my travel charts for awhile, until I knew more facts. But I would not be deterred from solving this mystery of the Durdens. Perhaps Roy will recall more over time. For now we head home! Closing my eyes to catch a bit of sleep on the drive back, I smiled. I was glad Fat_Ass_Matthias was back because he made great ravioli. Pavlo26's cooking was something I would not wish on my worst enemy. But it certainly made me focus on the books more during our meeting. Drug sales were up, bribes paid, collections handled and problems eliminated. Leaving only this situation to resolve. Strange but the Godfather has been pretty quiet lately. He must have his own situations to deal with that don't involve me. No calls to meet or tasks to go. That freed me up to handle my own crew. But I still pondered over possibilities unknown to me. Then I fell asleep despite the bumpy highway and glaring headlights of passing trucks. |

My Bodyguard Spitman found a source thru his uncle to research the metal tag. It would probably take a while since the man in question would be using the Thomas Register of American Manufacturers. Apparently it was a huge book or books filled with trademark and symbols. So I would focus on something else in the meantime. Spitman would also look into manufacturing about the connector that was recovered After some thought, I decided to have the doctor analyze the green vial. As significant findings regarding the vial required skills I didn't possess. So another clue I had to trust in someone else's hands. I started keeping a small journal to track everything I was discovering and looking into about the Durdens. It was the only was to sort the items. As for the encrypted paperwork, I was at a loss. Public Cryptologists were rare and hard to find. Most codebreakers worked for the government. But I did stumble acrossed a good forgery artist, who liked to do challenging puzzles. I would approach Louie once I made a photocopy of the pages. I need a backup to those pages. Meanwhile thugs were on the rise. Someone mugged my grandma, while I wasn't around for her. I need to assign a secret detail to watch over her when I can't. At her age Grandma should be home relaxing, but she wants to help out. I don't want to rob her of her independence. Hiro26 and zda3baby26 took her to the local doctor to be checked out. I had my guys all go out to search for the pickpocket who stole the purse. So I was just finishing closing up shop, when I saw Durdens from the corner of my eye. I didn't wait around because even with a gun I was out numbered. My bodyguards were all on other business and Pavlo26 was going to be furious that I made them all leave me. I'm sure he will say he was right if the Durdens get me. I ran down the block away from the Durdens. They picked up their pace when they spotted me running. I ducked down a side street and then another. I might not be able to out run them. So I looked for a hiding place. There was nothing until I saw a dumpster in the back alley. "You have got to be kidding me.". Hearing them closing in I climbed into the dumpster that smelled horrible and tried to hide under an old cardboard box. I could fell a bottle poking my rib cage. I could feel the wet mess of coffee grounds on my knee. Then I felt a banana peel land on my head but I didn't dare move. Outside the Durdens were moving passed the dumpster, but stopped to talk right next to it. I thought for sure I might get caught. Then I felt something stiff below me. That wasn't a bottle, a bag of trash or a box. Reaching down behind me I felt an arm. I almost let out a scream, but it turned to a tiny squeak. Then I felt movement above me and braced for the Durdens. To my relief it was a hungry alley cat. The Durdens moved on. I waited to be cautious before attempting to climb out. After waiting longer, I attempted to climb out. I had a hard time getting traction to get back out. Struggling against the slippery trash. Finally I decided to use the body for leverage to climb on. I guess I wasn't the only one who used dumpsters to deal with cleanup. I didn't know who he wasn't and frankly didn't bother to check. I was just getting over the rim of the dumpster when I heard someone coming. I didn't care I wanted out of the smelly box. As I landed on the ground Pavlo26 ran up and grabbed me. "I saw Durdens around the shop. God I knew we all should not have left you alone," he said inspecting my body for injuries. "I'm fine," I insisted brushing the coffee grinds off my knee. Pavlo26 picked off the banana peel from my hair. Then suddenly without warning, he pulled me close and kissed me. For a second, I was too stunned to react. Pushing loose, I reached out and slapped him across the face. "Remember I'm your boss! I'm not some fragile girl you need to rescue. But since your in a rescuing mood, get my purse from the stiff in the dumpster." I saw him rub his cheek first, but then Pavlo26 sighed and moved garbage aside to locate my purse. After a brief search he handed my purse back to me. I said, "Stop catching feelings." He said nothing. "If anyone thought one of my bodyguards was sweet on me I would never hear the end of it. Or worse you become a target needing bodyguards. This is business!" With that I walked away. I walked away in desperate need of a bath to freshen up. But I knew I had to go to Grandma so I could bring her home. She would expect me there after locking up the shop and I was already late. I might smell like the inside of a trash can now, but she won't even acknowledge it. I don't need to frighten her with information about Durdens chasing me. Pavlo26 said nothing and kept a respectable distance from me. I walked back to where my car was parked, so he could drive me to the doctor. It was getting dark out and no one was safe on the streets anymore. I'll need to see about hiring more people. For now I will try to keep a healthy street presence with the people I already have on my team. |

I found myself laying half in the street and on the sidewalk. In a daze I tried to move. My bodyguards quickly lifted me up. I was being extracted. "Why?" I mutted. My head pounding and blood coming from my shoulder. Then the world went dark. Awhile later I found myself in a bed with the doctor patching me up. "That was a close one, young lady," he said shaking his head. He turned to someone and said, "make sure she rests and get her gun cleaned up." "Already on it," said Pavlo26. Then I started to recall what happened. Surprisingly even with Pavlo26 beefing up my security, here I was flat on my back caused by myself. Yes it was a Durden wearing a tee shirt with the label ~Cant1CentGod~. So now I can laugh about it. But when it happened I saw the words Massive critical hit flash before my eyes. I had that Durden in site, yet I missed. He stole the weird connector and somehow knocked out Tornado. Now even Tornado isn't enough to stop a Durden and clearly even I failed to stop him fleeing my apartment. Now I have one less clue to work with in this puzzle of who or what keeps bring them back. That makes the rest of the clues so much more valuable. Lives are at stake even my own. " Check on Tornado," I said weakly." " Don't worry Boss," Roy said. " I took him to the vet and he will be fine. Just some drugged meat." I struggled to get up, but fell backwards. " I need to..." " No Boss," Pavlo26 said firmly. " Even you need a break sometimes. With that the doctor gave me an injection. Then the room slowly drifted away and I went to sleep. |

DollyCant1CentGod made contact with me. “She could have attacked me. She didn't.” I said to myself looking in the mirror rubbing my sore shoulder. Hmm I wonder why. My biggest take away is "Project Spawner.” Dolly isn't like the other Durdens. No automatically hostile toward me when passing in the street. I was kinda shocked. By the time I could respond, she has vanished into the crowd walking on the street. Was she testing me or are there different factions in the Durdens or some other purpose. Considering everything that's happened I'm puzzled for the brief encounter with no altercation. My bodyguards have been attacked, captured, drugged, and apparently interrogated yet i just had a peaceful sidewalk conversation with one of the Durdens. I've had my clues compromised with one item stolen. I was shot in the street by a different Durden. Yet I wasn't killed. My own gun failed me. Did that Durden who fought with me on the street prior intentionally miss me? I stare at my reflection. "There are so many questions!" |

Who knew I would be attending a World Series Perfect Game. Portugas_D_Ace My newest bodyguard scored some tickets for all the bodyguards and I to attend the game. He had connections with the grounds crew. They weren't box seats but I didn't care. We would have a good view from the first base side. My bodyguards wanted me to take it easy after the mishap with my gun. Pavlo26 personal cleaned it and tested it at the range. I knew there would be a big crowd, but they wanted me off the street with all its Durdens invading and causing havoc. So sure I could enjoy a fall evening with the guys and a hotdog or two. Hiro waltz in with a new baseball cap for me to wear to the game. I didn't bother telling him I had a couple in my closet already. Tonight the Yankees would be facing the Brooklyn Dodgers at Yankee Stadium. I already missed out on the shot heard around the world laid up in bed. A historic moment gone while I lounged in bed. But it wasn't a total lose because one of the Bodyguard's brought me cheesecake. I was almost ready to go when a knock came at the door. Sebastian26 answered the door and accepted a cream colored envelope. It looked fancy even a few feet away. " Here Boss," he said handing over the envelope. "It's from Gracie Mansion." I was surprised! Pondering if my blackmailing the mayor over his gambling problem was the reason. Opening the envelope I found a sturdy parchment with embossed lettering. It was an invitation to a Mayoral Fund Raising Campaign. It required RSVP to the notice. "Hmm, I'll need to run this by the Godfather, as he might want to attend. It might be a good networking event. But guys I want you to check the street to make sure this isn't some organize the crime lords for a major sting.". Then I left it on the table, as I had other business to attend, a baseball game! We arrived at the stadium with a thick crowd of people milling around. I spotted all types of criminals about. Of course there were scalpers hawking tickets at an inflated price. I wouldn't need their services tonight. My bodyguards parted the crowd for me to hand a ticket to the man at the front gate. I was soon settled in a seat, sandwich in between my security team. A few sat directly behind and in front of me. I watched as people found there seats and the field was being made ready for game 5 of the world series. Yes it's moments like this that make every day life exciting. Even for a gangster. |

One of the Bodyguards bought an Official World Series Souvenir Program for me to remember the game. They knew I didn't want some nonsense gift from the merchandise peddlers moving around the isles. Unfortunately I wouldn't see Mickey Mantle on the field as he was injured in game two and apparently out for the rest of the season. But I did see a rookie Gil McDougald hit a third inning grand slam. I don't recall a rookie ever hitting a grand slam before, but than I didn't have time for every game. Fat_Ass_Matthias managed to catch a foul ball when he was moving around in the stands checking the crowd for threats. I'm not sure why the guys saddle Matthias with that rude nickname. His butt really wasn't that bad. He offered the ball to me of course but I didn't want to take it from him. Matthias deserved his special piece of tonight. I suggested he try to get it signed after the game. During the seventh inning stretch, I decided to head off to the ladies room. The guys weren't so keen on the idea, but a few waited nearby. Of course there had to be a line. When isn't there one at the restroom for ladies. I fixed my lipstick while waiting my turn. Even a seasoned gangster knew not to cut a line of women for a stall. While I was standing at the sink there was a commotion. I tried to ignore it but then I saw a female Durden pushing her way through the woman. She tried to rush at me. I wasn't prepared because Pavlo26 hadn't given me my gun back yet. Trying to avoid her I bumped into the far wall hitting my injured shoulder. I thought for sure I would be at a disadvantage. But never underestimate a pack of angry ladies. They served the Durden a beat down that would make a prize fighter proud. Purses armed like baseball bats pummeled the Durden. I shuffled passed the swarm of ladies circling around the Durden to make my escape. Outside my boys were waiting. They noted I held my shoulder and was a little pale. So they whisked me out of the danger zone back to the safety of our seats. I wasn't going to let a stupid Durden stop me from seeing the end of this game. Even though the Bodyguards were concerned I shut it down with a firm annoyed glance. Secretly I believe they too were glad they wouldn't miss the game, but would keep an eye out for threats. Spitman brought me another hotdog and a cold drink. One of the other guys passed me ice for my shoulder. The tension built towards the end as the pitcher was holding the line for a perfect game. It was so worth a tense moment in the ladies room for an evening of fun. We celebrated long after the game ended. I had no idea if any other mobsters were at the game. But odds were a few made it for sure. All the betting potential and history making game to watch. Maybe I would hear about it from someone. For now I just smiled hanging onto my ticket and program from the game. There was nothing like a NY Yankees world series game! |

I stumbled into my place in the early morning hours. After I enjoyed a night at the world series game followed by an after party at a local bar. Yes this would be a night to remember. Tornado needed a serious walk and had been a little destructive while I was gone. Feathers from a pillow laid scattered across the floor. After taking Tornado out for a quick walk to do his business; I decided to leave the feathers for morning. I saw the Gracie Mansion invitation still sitting on my table and carried it with me into the bedroom. I placed it on the nightstand to get ready for bed. I quickly slipped on my pajamas and climbed into bed. Tornado jumped up to lay at the end of the bed. Then as I drifted off to sleep I pondered what custom to wear to a fancy party at the Mayor's home. Trying on different styles until I settled on being Marie Antoinette. Yes I would be a queen! Laughing I said," let them eat cake." And nodded off to dreamland. The night of the Halloween Party arrived in grand style. I saw the Mansion sitting up by the East River. Chauffeur's were holding open doors for elegant ladies with fancy hairdos and buckets of jewelry. It was tempting to rob them all. Fiorello La Guardia had setup this home as the official Mayor's residence with his family in the early 40s. The house a federal style fit the bill for the party. I was approaching from the East End Avenue. But wait I wasn't in a fancy chauffeur driven black car. Instead I was in a horse drawn carriage that looked like it was from 18th century Versailles. My bodyguards all dressed to the 9s in black tie and tails with top hats. They all looked so dashingly charming. I stepped out in miles of material swimming about me. I needed a mirror to see this was my only thought. I could see a lined path of designer carved pumpkins lighting up the path to the party entrance. I didn't have a purse or a gun, just some silly frivolous fan in my hand. I touched my hair to find I was wearing a wig like a hat upon my head. Swell I was as all decked out to be sure. So might as well enjoy the night. As I entered I reach out a gloved hand to take a glass of champagne from a passing waiter. Now how was I to recognize anyone in custom. Everyone had elaborate customs and all were masked. I filtered through the crowd smiling here and there. The house was illuminated showing off people dressed as devils, witches, gypsies all the regular things. They were made with a fancy twist from expensive materials. I reach for an hors d'oeuvre to savor. This was a room full of high society guests, politicians, business man, mafioso all were here. The trick was not to open my mouth as I wouldn't know who was whom. A small orchestra played in the background. Eventually a handsome mystery man approached me for a dance. Reaching out his hand for mine. With a soft smile I accepted his offer. There's something strangely familiar about him, but I couldn't figure out who I was dancing with tonight. I knew at some point we all remove our masks to show our faces at the end. I asked his name politely, and he just smiled pulling me closer. After the dance a waiter offered more champagne. I reached taking two glasses. As I turned to give the gentleman his glass, he mysteriously had disappeared. Frustrated, I swiftly drank them both. Then I searched the whole party not finding him anywhere. I stepped outside thinking maybe he went to get some air. Society can be stuffy sometimes. But then the next thing I saw was the Durdens abandoned warehouse. It was loud with a party going on inside. My bodyguards were close behind me. "Boss why are we here?" One of them said behind me. "That is a good question. Did they somehow teleport us here to their lair. Hmm I then looked down at my clothing. " No this won't do, I won't fit in." I proceeded to pull my hem loose off the dress. I continued next with some of the fancy lace. Tore my sleeves off and even rubbed some dirt off the ground on to my gown with my gloves. I messed with the wig so it was no longer perfect. Then I turned around to my crew. "How does this look?" " Boss you ruined that fancy gown. You look like you just survived the French Revolution." I smiled, " good so it won't be off with my head by the Durdens.". I gave a little laugh. " Okay boys find a change of clothing or stay out of sight." The closer I moved to the party I could hear the music blaring. Maybe tonight I can make some progress in solving this puzzle called the Durdens. Gravel crunched under my shoes a mixed of loose stone and glass on the concrete. I made my way to the party ready for just about anything. The decorations were cheap and tacky. Empty bottles littered the floor and just about everywhere else. Streamers of black and orange haphazardly tossed around. Deflating balloons, smashed pumpkins littering the floor in spots and candles stuck in beer bottles. They even attempted to make ghosts using old wornout sheets. "Amusing," I said to myself. Someone gave a shout out, "look everyone the queen has arrived. Come here lovely queen we have your throne." I looked and the wolf dressed man motioned to a makeshift electric chair. Instead I looked around the room noting the fighting ring with blood already sprayed on the floor. Wondering if it was a prop or real. Then a man in a mask stepped forward. He removed his mask revealing he was Tyler. "No need for that. Shall we dance?" Extending his hand out. Chuckling I said, "you dance?" "We all do for tonight," he said with an evil grin. As he seemed me into his arms, he whispered into my ear. "Ruby how daring of you to come here tonight." Of course he knew me instantly. I didn't have time to react when his girlfriend came crashing over through the crowd. Drunkenly she spewed, " How dare you steal my man!" I put on my best smile stepping back. '"No I would not do that have your prince charming back." I curtsey for her and turned his hand towards her. Escaping that nightmare of a woman wasn't as easy as I hoped. As I attempted to leave she pulled my hair. Fortunately for me it was a wig. Turning to fight I saw her fanning herself with the other part of the torn map. Then I woke to the sound of Tornado barking. "Oh man was that a dream or a nightmare," turning to look at my alarm clock I saw the invitation on my nightstand. So that made me consider, do I attend the Grace Mansion party or go explore better prepared for the Durdens Monster Mash? |

I hired on another bodyguard Orzo Tortellini Jr. I was becoming suspicious of my current staff of security. I pinpointed an information leak that could have only come from my very own bodyguard detail. So I needed someone on the inside to help me. I knew Pavlo26 would be trying his best to sort the problem. Still I was already on edge with the Durdens. Additional were the rumors about purging and blood lining going around. I resorted to bring Tornado with me on business. I also began wearing the metal tag with its engraving of Spawn 4 #XQRI5473 around my neck. It was returned to me by Spitman's uncle after I meet with him in a diner on the edge of the city. He didn't want to give me his name. He was clearly afraid of something. Spitman's uncle claimed the tag was from no known maker. On leaving the Uncle said it could be a secret group or even something to do with the government. That wasn't reassuring or helpful. So until I could come up with more details, I wanted the tag close. I kept it safely tucked under my shirt. No longer able to trust even my own team. Today was a bad day. All my operations failed. Increasing my being paranoid. Stupid errors made, like dropping keys or cops showing up. Clearly there was some jinx to my day. Plus I had 8 corrupt agents I must terminate soon. I considered lining them all up and just emptying one round in each. Quick and efficient! Hiring on new corrupt agents was a high priority once I wrapped up the others. But would talk slip out making others fear working with me. I would have to perhaps handle this completely on my own. Or at the very least with just Pavlo26 and the new guy. It would be one way to test the metal of my new hire. Tornado would be a handy backup. I stop at a local bar and sat in a dark back corner. Tornado made a few patrons uneasy as we passed. I just gave them a stare that made them reconsider whom to be afraid of as we passed by. Signaling to a waitress I ordered a bottle and a shot glass. Killing 8 men soon wasn't as easy as I made it look. Tornado positioned himself under the table out of sight. On my third shot I was relaxing. It was than I noticed a man looking my way. I didn't notice when he entered the bar. Then he rose up from a bar stool to approach me. I waited curious..... |

The bar was warm with cigarette smoke and the low hum of conversation, the occasional clink of glass rising above the piano playing softly in the corner. A few men were gathered around a card game toward the back, their voices rising and falling with each hand, while the bartender moved between the bottles and glasses behind the counter. It was the sort of place where a man could spend an evening without drawing much attention to himself. Obsidian stepped inside, bringing a trace of the cool night air with him. Near the entrance stood a wooden coat rack, already occupied by a few overcoats and hats. He removed his black felt fedora, then slipped off his dark trench coat and hung both neatly on the rack. Beneath it, he wore a deep navy blue suit, impeccably tailored to his lean, solid frame, with a crisp white shirt and a pronounced burgundy silk tie. The tie was broad and richly colored, its substantial knot sitting neatly beneath his collar, a confident splash of color against the dark suit. Gold cufflinks caught the light when he moved his hands, accompanied by a few understated gold rings. His black Lucchese alligator boots were polished to a quiet sheen, their distinctive leather mostly concealed beneath his trouser legs. He preferred them to ordinary dress shoes, finding them comfortable, well made, and practical without sacrificing an ounce of refinement. He made his way to the bar and settled onto an empty stool. When the bartender approached, Obsidian ordered a fine bourbon, neat. The bartender poured a measure into a short glass and set it before him. Obsidian gave a quiet nod of thanks and took a sip, allowing the warmth to settle before resting the glass on the polished counter. For a while, he enjoyed the bourbon and the music, his attention wandering casually around the room. He had no particular reason to hurry. Then he noticed a familiar dog beneath a table in the darker corner. Tornado. A sincere smile touched his face. He lifted his glass for another measured sip before rising from his stool. Bourbon in hand, he crossed the room at an easy pace, the piano and low conversation continuing around him. He stopped beside the table, his attention settling briefly on the dog before lifting to the woman seated above him. “Well, I’ll be damned,” he remarked, with a hint of amusement. “Tornado. Fancy running into you here.” He offered the woman a small, courteous smile. “Seems your companion and I have met before,” he said, gesturing lightly toward the dog with his glass. “I’m Sid, by the way.” He paused beside the empty chair, making no assumption that his company was wanted. His manner remained relaxed, neither hurried nor overly familiar, as he waited to see how she would receive him. |

I look from the man to Tornado with some curiosity. Tornado was not growling nor wagging his tail in acknowledgement. "Sid, you say. Please sit down. I'm rather interested how you came to meet my dog. You see I only recently acquired him from Luccini at the Swag stand. He was there because the last owner owed gambling debts. That wouldn't be you in assuming." I motion to the bar for another shot glass. Tonight, I hadn't really noticed the card players, cigarette smoke or even the piano playing softly in the background. I was too preoccupied with thoughts of making eight new widows. It weighed heavily on my mind. "Tell me did you happen to come across my dog with one of my bodyguards? I was laid up with a shoulder issue. Maybe that is how you met!" Suspicion about my potential leak might be confirmed in questioning this gentleman. On the other hand it could be my over reacting. I need to reign in my own paranoia. The waitress arrived with a second glass and I poured a shot for Sid. Then I slide it across the table for him at a slow pace. I already had three shots and didn't want to show any sign that my reflexes were off. Looking up at his face, I smiled. In my mind I said let me see if he has anything important I need to know. Looking back down at my own empty glass I poured another shot, possibly losing count soon. " So Sid what's your story?" Then I leaned back against the booth. The darkness concealing part of my face from his view as I studied him. My purse sat next to me with a new gun inside. I had been arguing with Pavlo26 about the old one earlier in the morning. I wanted a new one to deal with the cold blooded murders of 8 men I had yet to complete. Drinking hadn't dulled my dark thoughts. Perhaps now things may change my mood, or reveal new secrets. I waited for Sid's next move before raising my glass for another round. I noticed two of my bodyguards stationed around the bar discreetly. Pavlo26 was still being overprotective with me. I had Tornado and a gun. I saw no need for more and came here to be alone with my dark thoughts. I turned my attention back to Sid. At this point he was sitting down across from me. With the golden cufflinks, various rings and a nice watch he wasn't some common thug. But who exactly was he I had yet to uncover. He didn't spike danger yet as Tornado was calmly at my feet. |
