| Fine Cloth & Silk | Started by: Hiro_Nakamura on Oct 04, '26 12:22 |

A new sign hangs above a narrow storefront, wedged between a baker and a nail salon. The paint is still fresh, the window is clean. "Fine Cloth & Silk - Tailored to Your Measure" Inside, bolts of fabric lean against the walls: wool, linen, silk. Colours that shift in the afternoon light. There is a fitting mirror in the corner. And a small brass bell on the counter. The tailor doesn't work alone. Behind a curtain in the back, there are hands. Quiet and patient ones. They've been taught by craftsmen whose names are long forgotten, and they haven't missed a stitch yet. No price list, no haggling. Pay what you think it's worth when you pick it up. Previous work: CATALOG The bell's on the counter. |

The bell rang once. Then the door clicked shut behind him, slow, the way a man closes a door when he wants you to notice he closed it. Angelo Vitale didn't look at the silk. He looked at the curtain. "Nice place. Quiet street. Baker on one side, nails on the other. Nobody'd ever think to look here." He set a gloved hand on the counter, right next to the bell. "That's a compliment." He tugged at the lapel of the jacket he was wearing. Good wool. Not good enough. "Here's my problem. I got a lot of friends, and a lot of friends means a lot of people who'd like to see me in a pine box. So I don't need something that moves when I move. I need something that stops things from moving into me." He leaned in, voice dropping. "You seen that movie? The fella with the dog? Walks into a room, takes six to the chest, buttons his jacket and keeps going. That's what I want. Lined. Light enough to dance in. Nobody knows it's there till it matters." He glanced at the curtain again. "Your quiet hands back there. They ever work with something other than thread?" A fold of bills hit the counter. Thick ones. "Pay what it's worth, the sign says. I figure staying alive is worth a lot. Take my measurements. I'll come back for it. Make sure it's ready when I do." |

Hiro read Angelo_Vitale's words over once more in his head. Lined. Light enough to dance in. Nobody knows it's there till it matters. "Arms out." Angelo complied. Hiro measured him slow. Chest, waist, shoulders, inseam. He wrote down the measurements. "It'll be ready in a week. I'll deliver it myself." Angelo nodded. Took his hand off the counter and left the bills. He pushed through the curtain into the back. |

it was a hot day Roy was walking down the street after a day of making cash off his gas scam he saw a storefront that was selling new suits. He looked down at his suit it was still spotless but was certainly showing its age he lifted his louisville slugger onto his shoulders, for once he wasnt going into a business to shake it down for protection money. and he thought to himself, "what the hell im in need of a new suit ill see if this guy can live up to my late tailor MidpoinT" he looks down at the briefcase handcuffed to his other hand and walks in the door and rings the bell setting his louisville slugger down leaning against the counter "im looking for a new suit i need it before my next gig if you get it before the show i'll pay you handsomely" he sets his briefcase on the counter undoing the locks on both sides before lifting the opening on the briefcase revealing 3 rows of solid gold bricks |

The bell rang. Hiro looked up from the counter. "I can have it ready before the show. Need your measurements first." He stepped around the counter. Pulled a measuring tape from his pocket. "Arms out." He measured slow. Chest, waist, shoulders, inseam. "Show is in a few days. You'll have it before then." He glanced at the bat, then at the briefcase. "What kind of suit? Any preferences?" |

Hiro finished the last stitch and stepped back. The suit hung on the rack. Dark, gothic, sharp lines. Exactly what RoyKhan had asked for. He found the address without trouble and knocked on the door. "RoyKhan. Your suit. Ready before the show, like I said." He waited. Hand out for the key. |

Roy reached into his pocket and pulled out the key after looking at the suits his cold look let out a small smile as he put the key into Hiro_Nakamura's hand. "the suit is exactly what i was looking for, be sure to come to my show" he hands him a vip ticket to the show "flash that ticket to the guards and they'll let you in through the back all my vips are never wanting for anything. |

Hiro took the key and the ticket. Glanced at it once. VIP, back entrance. Then tucked both into his jacket. "Appreciate it. I'll be there." He gave RoyKhan a nod and turned to leave. Then he paused at the door. "Enjoy the suit. It'll hold up." Then he stepped out into the street. Headed back to the shop. |

After coming out of the nail salon I notice the new tailor shop. I haven't been able to find a suit in any of the ladies shops. I say to myself why not and step inside the shop. The little overhead bell chimes as I walk into the shop. I'm overwhelmed by the many fabrics inside the store. I notice a sewing machine and can smell the distinction oil it uses. Beside it is a mannequin with a partial suit pinned up missing a sleeve. A work in progress I noted. Then I observed a bell on the counter. I pressed it and waited for service. |

The bell rang once. Hiro stepped out from behind the curtain. "Welcome." He glanced at the mannequin, then back at her. "Looking for something specific? Or just browsing?" |

| I need a stylish suit that fits me well. Something that means business. Yet something I can move freely in while wearing it. If you do this well, I will buy more and recommend your shop. I can be good for business. Mess up and not so much... I gave a sheepish look. Then waited to see what would happen next. | |

Hiro nodded once. Didn't blink at the threat. Just took it in. "Means business. Fits well. Moves with you." He let that sit for a moment. Then he stepped around the counter. Pulled a measuring tape from his pocket and a small notebook from his jacket. "Arms out." Ruby26 complied. He measured slow. Chest, waist, shoulders, hips, inseam. The tape moved with practiced ease. After each measurement, he wrote the number down in neat, small script. The notebook stayed open on the counter. "Fabric?" He gestured toward the walls. Wool, linen, silk. Colours that shifted in the light. "Come back in a week. It'll be delivered when it's done." He closed the notebook and tucked it into his jacket. Then he turned and walked back through the curtain. |

I arrived back at the Tailor's shop hopeful I would be happy. I carried a small container from the nextdoor bakery for the tailor. I stepped into a dressing room when the tailor brought forth my new suit. I careful undressed depositing my clothing on the chair inside the room. Then I slipped on the rich fabric of my new suit. It felt elegant and I was confident I would make a good impression on anyone I went to negotiate with in the city. I put my regular clothing in the suit bagging. I would wear this one out the door. Turning before I left. " I would like 6 more in various colors and materials. Pondering if the tailor could also make evening gowns. |

The bell rang. Hiro looked up from the counter. She set a small container on the counter. Something from the bakery next door, smelled like sweet bread. "Six more. I can do that. Colours, materials, we'll sort it out." He set the container aside. "Evening gowns. Yes. I can make those too." He pulled out his notebook and flipped to a fresh page. "Same measurements? Or you want to take a look at fabrics first?" |

Hiro watched ♥NY:Ruby26 go. The bell above the door chimed once, then settled. Then he looked at the notebook with her measurements. Six suits, gowns too. By evening, the first of the six was taking shape on the mannequin. Deep green, structured shoulders. Something that meant business. He turned off the light and went home. Next morning he was back before the sun. Coffee in one hand, keys in the other. The green suit came first. Then a charcoal grey, then navy. A lighter beige for warmer days. Two more after that, one black, one a deep burgundy. Each one cut clean, lined proper and built to move. Then he swept the floor. Put his tools away and turned off the light. |

I brought the shirt in folded around the bad cuff. The brass bell was small enough that I nearly covered it with the bundle, so I shifted along the counter before putting anything down. Then I rang it once.
"Afternoon. Names Jacob Soderlund. I've brought a shirt that needs seeing to." I unfolded it with the cuff uppermost. There were still a few stitches from my own attempt, pulled tight enough to pucker the cloth. The rest of the shirt was good. I'd washed it before bringing it over.
"I spent most of an evening sewing that button on. It lasted till the following afternoon." I left the loose threads alone. "Would you take on a small repair like this?" |

To all customers and friends of the shop. It is with deep regret that this establishment announces its closing, effective immediately, due to the passing of Hiro_Nakamura. The bell on the counter will ring once more when things settle. |
