Mama Sorrento’s was a prominent Italian restaurant in Queens, and it was the venue I decided upon for my celebration. When the Godfather called me into his office, I knew it could be a good or a bad thing. His time was valuable and he didn't just entertain people in his office for no reason. But he greeted me with a big smile! I was now officially Consigliere to the Godfather of Queens. He gave me the green light to celebrate the new title. Hopefully he will have time for my dinner in his busy schedule. This was a nod to my success in the city he runs. The restaurant was run by Joan Rizzi, a friend of my grandma. They served traditional Neapolitan family dishes that were popular with my crowd. Plus they had enough room for everyone to come. I found myself in their cozy green booths on a few occasions. Plus they had a bar area and you could actually see the kitchen. So the aroma from all the food would have everyone's mouth watering. My head of security Pavlo26 would make sure everything was safe. Anyone who came to celebrate my success was sure to have a yummy evening. With the cozy booths they would even be able to discuss a little shop talk. I still wondered what my full role entailed as a Consigliere. Maybe my fellow Mafiosi would share some advice with me. I decided the restaurant was green enough for both of us. So instead I chose a daring red dress. It would show off my style of bold choices. All I needed to do was finish with some makeup. I was excited to be the new Consigliere in a family business dominated by men. I held a letter in my hand to tell my sister of the good fortune. I just regretted she wouldn't be able to attend. Since coming to the City, I had been building a new family of sorts. I'd relocated Grandma to a new flower shop in a better neighborhood. Yes, the future was looking promising for both of us. One nice thing about owning a flower shop is I could dress up the whole restaurant in lovely florals. Plus it helped get rid of excess flowers that were ordered. So a win win in my book. I trusted Grandma with every piece. I didn't mind if she messed up here or there as she was getting old. But she has decades of experience running a flower shop with my grandfather. Looking in the mirror, I practice my speech. Would it even matter by the end of the evening. Everyone will have a full stomach and happy memories. I stopped trying to remember a fancy speech and tore up my notes. It was time to go, as Pavlo26 was waiting patiently at the door. |
