A three-city bloodbath, No!.There were limits even to my patience. I stood behind my husband for years. I attended all the social functions, kept the house in order, was there for every secret he thought I didn't know. I had a few secrets of my own. I heard rumors he killed the lovely flower shop girl Ruby26. It broke my heart. For years, I kept our baby in hiding to protect her. I didn't want her to grow up in Striphe's world of crime. But she found a life in his world anyway. Striphe was off with one of his mistresses again as I put my plan in action. I was in labor and he was MIA with his side piece. I had prearranged for our daughter's departure. He would believe we lost the baby in childbirth. While in fact, she would be raised by a normal family. Somehow it all went wrong! I went to meet with a high profile law firm to start the divorce of the century. It was in a large office building in Manhattan. The office had a thick wall of law books to one side. There were floor to ceiling windows that gave a view of the City. The office spoke power in every inch of leather chairs and the giant mahogany desk. I came prepared. I had been keeping track for a while now. Striphe thought I wouldn't notice Thalia and xLadyfighterx as his side chicks. He had nerve parading them boldly in front of me at gala's and openings. I had the photos from a extremely professional private investigator. Nothing was hidden from me, including his secret apartments for his torrid affairs. After the lawyers would come the forensics accounting firm. Yes I had a lovely stack of papers. I knew all the secret shell accounts and businesses. As Striphe did his dirty dealings I keep copious notes. I wasn't the clueless little housewife in his guilded cage. I knew where all the bodies were buried. All the sorted details of his life. Now I would take his empire apart piece by bloody piece. Years of being manipulated and cheated on were going to come to an end. I would cement shoe him in place with the scandalous behavior of his lifestyle. Striphe simply mistook my patience for ignorance and my silence for obedience. Meanwhile, I was documenting his affairs, tracking his money, and collecting the ammunition to dismantle his empire. But with this three city war I would gather up all the witnesses against him. There would be many including morners of his treacherous actions against so many families. I would try him in the public square by hanging out all his dirty deeds. Life would become a living nightmare for my darling husband! Now to reach out feelers to those who bore witness to his mayhem. I had money. I collected for years right under his very nose. Plus of course the money he gave me over the years for living expenses. I learned to parlay it into a tidy sum. |

Chapter 2: Only one life to wack! A black car pulls up to the church. Mrs Striphe dressed in black, wearing a veiled hat, enters quietly after the service has begun. She takes a seat toward the back of the church. Away from the family and the familiar faces of many mourners. This week would be one with revolving church doors for all the dead and their funerals. Ruby's hope is all gone at this point. Mrs. Striphe the one no one would notice. Having arrived discreetly, slightly after the service began. There was a sea of flowers for Ruby's send off. Lilies and white roses, her own mother didn't even know Ruby's favorite flowers. Mrs. Striphe raised a lace handkerchief to her eyes at Ruby's service. She had learned over the years to keep her emotions guarded. But today Mrs Striphe was having a difficult time. A few sobs escaped her lips before she could regain her composure. A suspicious detail of discovering Mr. Striphe, at the funeral of their baby, with yet another woman. He was paying his respects as required. Mrs. Striphe decided to exit rather than to be seen by her husband. She would visit Ruby at the cemetery in private once the crowd was gone. Mrs Striphe almost ran into someone on the way out. The tears clouding her vision. The chauffeur waited discreetly nearby. Mrs Striphe managed to reach the inside of the vehicle before falling apart in deep soul wrenching sobs. Her breathing was erratic. The feeling of utter misery washed over her in the unthinkable loss. Regret clawed at the very air she found difficult to even breathe in gasps. The hell of it would never escape her every waking moment. Mrs Striphe opened her purse. She took out the one black and white photo yellowed with age. Mrs Striphe couldn't resist the urge to check up on her daughter's life. It was only briefly one time as she couldn't risk her husband learning the truth. She cried each birthday. Now it was like she was losing Ruby a second time. This time though was forever! It was the only photograph she had dared to keep. Ruby, barely three years old, playing beside her sister in the summer sunshine. Mrs. Striphe traced the faded outline of her daughter's face with one trembling finger. She had given Ruby away to save her from the life she had been born into. Now that very life had found her anyway.. Regret ached in her heart, and the endless if only thoughts would haunt her for the rest of her days. |

| I locked myself in the bathroom for what seemed like hours. Then I realized the weight of grief had me even forget my name. Looking in the mirror at my puffy eyes, "You are You Mrs. Stephanie Corelli. You do not take anymore crap today and Striphe is going to pay!" | |

Chapter 3: As the Underworld Turns Before my appointment with the forensic accountant, I wanted to destroy something. I had a burning need to grab every last one of Mr. Corelli's clothes and set them ablaze in the backyard BBQ pit. Every bespoke suit, every pair of fancy leather shoes, right down to his precious silk ties. All while smoking one of his chubby Cuban cigars. The thought alone brought me a measure of satisfaction. Still, I pushed it aside. There would be time for destruction later. I stepped out of the car, followed by my bodyguards. All the while, I wondered why the office opened onto a back alley in the worst part of town. I never would have found myself in this filthy neighborhood if my high priced legal team hadn't assured me this was the best man for the job. Perhaps after my divorce, he could afford a better storefront. I stepped into the rather small office of Milton Steele, the forensic accountant my lawyers had recommended. He was supposedly a man who knew numbers better than most men knew their wives. I however, was distracted by grief. So many funerals. One too many for my heart to bear. Mr. Steele looked up and rose to greet me with a brief handshake. "Did you bring your paperwork?" I motioned to the bodyguards I'd recently hired. The last thing I needed was for my husband, Striphe, to discover this meeting. One of the guards stepped outside and returned carrying a large box of records. He plopped it onto the accountant's desk with a thud. "This is the financial data I could provide," I explained. I watched as the little balding man, complete with glasses perched on his nose, began pawing through my paperwork. I had an uneasy feeling. What kind of firm operated out of a shoebox of an office? What had possessed my expensive lawyers to send me here? I swallowed my doubts. My legal team must know what they were doing. Then Mr. Steele stopped moving. He held up a tiny fragment of a receipt between his fingers and studied it as though he'd just discovered buried treasure. "I know you're sizing me up, Mrs. Corelli," he said, looking directly at me. "You're wondering why a fancy law firm recommended a man who works in this hole in the wall." He adjusted his glasses. "Well, I'm frugal with my salary because I understand the value of a dollar. I don't need the trappings of a Manhattan office. I usually visit my clients, but I understand your situation is rather unique." His eyes returned to the scrap of paper. "Trust me, madam. I'll uncover secrets that others could spend a year searching for and never find. Your legal firm will pay me directly." Mr. Steele rose and moved toward the door, pushing his glasses back up his nose with one hand while still holding the receipt in the other. " I'm the best at what I do. You'll get your money's worth. So there's no need to keep your two intimidating gentlemen standing guard over me." I pulled myself together and summoned my best Striphe impersonation. " If you mess this up, little man, you'll be sleeping with the fishes. And if my husband finds out about you, well, that could be even worse." Mr. Steele didn't so much as blink. " No need to threaten me, Mrs. Corelli." He opened the door and gestured for me to leave. Against my better judgment, I walked out of that little accountant's office. I would wait for word of his discoveries. As I walked away, I glanced back at the shabby storefront. After all, we trust banks, don't we?I smiled to myself and headed off to my car for my next appointment. |

Chapter:4 General Homicide (The body count rises as war continues) As much as I wanted to take my frustrations out on his prized possessions, I needed to know whether my husband was the murderer of Ruby, before I added vandalism to my growing list of grievances. It was a rumor but not verified by real proof. I looked at my husband's auto collection. His Cadillac, Oldsmobile,Mercury, Chevrolet Bel Air or Ford Thunderbird. Maybe I should do it anyway because who knew what women he had in these cars. Instead of smashing Striphe cars I opted to go shopping with his money. One piece that caught my eye was a gorgeous alligator handbag. It bright a smile to my face. Then I found some new frilly dresses to buy. My final purchase were lovely black Stilettos. I bumped into Mrs Dingleberry at the store. She invited me back to her house for cake and coffee. I was a little surprised as we normally didn't hang out. The other shoe dropped as she slide a folder of information across the table to me. I reached for it of course, I wasn't stupid. "So what's in this and why give it to me?" I said as I took the folder offered. "Let's just said Striphe and I had a falling out." Mrs Dingleberry said stirring her coffee. I rolled my eyes, God not another one. I was feeling sick at this point. The smell of her pineapple upside down cake was making me want to gag. Even the coffee wasn't agreeing with me. So I thought it best to leave. "I really must get going Mrs Dingleberry." As I got up to depart I suddenly felt lightheaded. Before I knew what happened I fainted. I woke to Mrs Dingleberry's whiny voice. "You fainted, she advised me." " Yes," I said sitting up slowly. " I must have caught a stomach bug. Nothing has been agreeing with me for a few days. I better get home so I can rest." Before leaving I looked at Mrs Dingleberry with suspicion. It was only the other day Ladyfighter offer me tea. Were they all trying to poison me. I made a mental note, no more coffee or tea from these women. Even if the beverage came with an evidence folder gift wrapped with a bow. They probably were not trying to poison me, I told myself. I was feeling sick before I'd even arrived at Mrs. Dingleberry's house. Still, a woman could hardly be blamed for being suspicious when her husband has done a lot of things that could make anyone paranoid. Perhaps the woman had an axe to grind with Striphe because he may have spent her nights home with me a few times. From now on, I'd stick to my own coffee pot. Better safe than sorry. |
