Ruby slowly starts to wake up. Feeling a bit chilly with just a cold steel table under her back. Her eyes try to adjust to the bright lights of the room. Ruby tried to sit up carefully on the metal table. Where was she was the first thought. The horror is being murdered rushes back to Ruby. It floods her mind and deep panic sets in. Ruby remembered being promoted to Consigliere by Godfather Octavius in his office. Arranging a party to celebrate. But then dying in the car on the way. Ruby opens her eyes a couple of times. She was breathing! Damn it must be a horrible dream.. A nightmare of the City on fire. It never happened than Ruby thought relaxing for a few moments It was than as she looked around to get oriented true terror hit. Ruby saw a sea of tables and bodies just like her on metal tables. Some hooked to IVs and some had monitoring devices. Was this a hospital ward? Why would so many people be in the same room? Looking down Ruby noticed a paper tag wrapped around her wrist. Written by hand it said, Ruby 1 experiment Spawn code 001. What the hell? Thoughts raced through Ruby's mind. Ruby swung her legs over the side in an attempt to stand up on her own. Cold air touched her bare spine. She was wearing a hospital gown. Her feet were bare on the linoleum floor. Ruby felt so weak. Hearing voices Ruby ducked down under the table view. She saw clearly Durdens walking in a pair passed tables two rows away. They hadn't noticed her or her empty table. Ruby decided she needed to get out of here. She never expected to see the Durdens facility up close and personal so soon. Ruby wasn't sure how she ended up in this ward of patients.. Moving closer to the one near her right. After the Durdens left the room. Ruby made an effort to check who was on the table nearby. Her heart stopped in shear panic, as it was Tyler Durden. She jumped back knocking into her table. Ruby was in sheer panic mode. She needed to run and escape. She needed clothes and a plan. Ruby went searching for a way out and clothing. She wasn't sure how much time there was before others around her popped up awake to this world. The air didn't smell of hospital chemicals and floor to cleaner. No this was something else and Ruby couldn't tell what the odd scent was that filled the whole room. Then she saw a cart filled with various sizes of Durdens clothing. She quickly reached out taking a package. Then found a nearby bathroom to get dressed inside. Ruby's heart was pounding. She didn't know how she was alive but she was breathing. There were no bodyguards to protect her and no loyal dog Tornado. Ruby would find her way out and head back home. Surely Pavlo26 would have answers. Before leaving Ruby decided to check for things like cash to travel and more clues. She managed to find an office. There she found a stack of Durden folders as if they were patience in this facility. She grabbed the letter opener laying on the desk. At least she would have a makeshift weapon. In one of the drawers Ruby found a purse. She lifted it out to take anything useful. It had money inside a wallet. She didn't stop to look at who's wallet was inside the purse. The purse had a few handy things like aspirin and bandaids. Ruby decided to take the whole purse as a useful bag to carry anything she found along the way to an exit. The fluorescent lights flickered above Ruby's head as she moved through a corridor. She was just glad to be out of the room that contained 100s of unconscious Durdens. Ruby still wasn't sure how she came to even be here. Still Ruby pressed forward searching as she went. Ruby found a layout of the building posted up near an emergency stairwell. Slipping it out of the holder she folded it to slip into the purse. She passed private rooms that looked like intensive care for dying Durdens. A group of people were talking around the next bend in the hallway. Ruby ducked into one of the rooms close by and hide. Ruby realized as she sat behind the curtain on the floor she should have looked at the diagram layout of the building. As she waited Ruby studied the page. There were clear several the floors. Stairs going up and down. It wasn't a complete picture of the whole building but she was apparently on the third floor. Hearing nothing after a while Ruby stood up. She looked over a the patient in the bed. The man in the bed looked like Robert Paulson. Only he appeared to be serious beaten and shot. Fortunately Paulson was unconscious as well. Ruby's blond hair was hidden under the oversized hoodie she wore. Her head ache painfully. Her feet were still bare on the cold floor. Finding footwear was a top priority. So Ruby went to the locker room she found on the chart. Once inside Ruby hear someone showering in a connecting room. She quickly rifled through a few lockers. One contained flats just slightly too tight. But Ruby would deal with pinched feet rather than escape barefoot. At least they would do until something better turned up. To her surprise Ruby stumbled upon a bagged lunch. She pushed it inside the purse not bothering to see what food type it contained. Then before slipping back out into the hallway she drank some water from the fountain. It would do for now. Then the alarm sounded. A harsh, pulsing shriek filled the room. Red lights flashed along the walls. The sound of water ended. The person would be coming out soon to the locker room. Ruby pulled off the paper wrist band shoving it into the purse. Containment breach!" someone shouted over the intercom. "All personnel to the lower access points. Repeat, all personnel...." The sounds of running feet passed the door just before Ruby opened it. She slipped into a nearby stairwell. Feet were running down. Should she go up or down? If she went up how would Ruby escape from the roof? If Ruby went down she could hit a swarm of searching people. |

Standing in the stairwell Ruby considers her options. A little mysterious voice in her mind seemed to be urging her to go up. Maybe that was the best option. Who would expect her to do that. Later when things calmed down she could perhaps slip down to the ground level. Ruby peeked out of the stairwell on the fourth floor. No one seemed to be around. Then two maintenance men rounded a corner and she half shoved herself in a cart of sheets to look busy. Ruby listened for them and hoped they would pass her by. However they stopped at a panel on the wall to check something but she couldn't see what without being noticed. "We need to find the broken connection for the laboratory on 5," the one guy said a tool in hand. " It could be any of these panels or worse that subbasement level. That teleport drains so much power. I'm surprised it doesn't fry this whole building." Said maintenance guy two. "Just remember no one hears about this stuff once we leave the building or it will be our ass in the noose.". First guy replied shutting the panel. Let's get down to level three. Finally the two maintenance men were gone down the hallway towards the stairs. Ruby was curious what they meant by portal. She picked up a bundle of bedding to carry just encase anyone else passed by. The alert lights were still flashing and alarm buzzing. The worker yelled as they passed her. " Don't you notice the alert? Finish that up and come help us on the main level." Apparently the hospital worker didn't suspect Ruby of being the problem. " Yes," she choked out weakly. Then there is a power failure. All the hallway lights flicker before going out. Shortly after there is an announcement "backup generator activated." " Nurse go to Lab 5 now, don't let anyone in or out. I have to arrange a code red transfer.". A doctor said shoving a clipboard in hand. Ruby struggles to hold the clipboard along with the bedding she held. "Place it down." Ruby turned to see who said that but the hallway was empty. Ruby drops the clean bedding in a nearby laundry cart. " Now where's this Laboratory 5." "Go straight and make a right." "What the heck." Ruby spun around in a complete circle but no one was nearby. Going down the next hallway Ruby found Laboratory 5. It was clearly marked. The doors didn't glide open. She looked around for a button. Only finding a box attached to the door. "Great now how do I get through here?" "Use a key card." "Who said that," Ruby searched all around her for someone. Then she found a key card attached to the clipboard the doctor handed her earlier. "Okay here goes," Ruby said attempting to use the card. To her surprise the doors opened. |
