"... I see what you mean. You're right. Meet me at 8pm, down by the docks." Scorch turns away from the window of his office and sees a head poking through his slightly ajar door, the owner of the head staring over Scorch's shoulder at the impressive view of daytime New York through his window. Scorch puts his phone down in the cradle, and looks up at the awestruck face by his door. Giving the guy at the door another few seconds to appreciate the view, Scorch leans back in his chair before coughing loudly. Unmoving, Scorch doesn't take his cold, hard eyes off the stranger. "Can I help you with something?" Jumping, the stranger somewhat falls into the room, before picking himself up off the royal blue carpet and brushing himself off sub-consciously while glancing round the room. Recognising it as one of the many new members of the family, Scorch softens his gaze slightly. The stranger starts speaking slowly, as if carefully selecting every word, and neglects to make eye contact with Scorch "Err yeah, I was sent here by Daera. He wanted me to pass a message onto you. I have it..." The man ceased talking while he digged his hands into hidden pockets within his filthy coat, worthy of any scum member, before finding what he was looking for and wandering across the large room toward Scorch's desk. The piece of paper floated onto the desk in front of Scorch, and he leaned forward and unfolded it, casting his eyes across the paper and trying to decipher Daera's atrocious handwriting. Running a hand through his thick, dark hair, Scorch sighs and slowly spins his chair round to face the window again. "Alright thanks, you can tell him that I'll get this done," Scorch says, still gazing down at the street as the people of New York bustle to and fro from their various places of work or leisure. Twiddling with the piece of paper in his hands, Scorch considers his options and leans toward his phone again and picks it up, dialling the number of one of the family's high rankers in the process. "Yeah, Johnson, it's Scorch. I've got a job for you. Yeah, shouldn't be too hard, I just want you to handle the finances this week. I would do it, but I'm as busy as it gets right now. Thanks, appreciated." What would you do if you were in ol' Johnson's position? In case you're confused, there are a number of junctions at this point. With no right or wrong answers, you can answer exactly how you want. I'm relatively sure most people here would say "Well, I'd get the job done. That's obvious right?" Of course you'd get the job done, you'd be a moron not to. However, how about going one step further? How about taking one or two of the new members of your family under your wing, teach them how to handle that particular aspect of family life, and at the same time you can lighten your workload? Morale of the story? Every task put to you is an opportunity to use your head and do not just a standard job, but an outstanding job. Think outside the box. No response is required to this, only your apprehension and I hope it opens your eyes a tad more than they already were. |
