Homecity vs. Out of city perks Started by: Inevitable on Jun 28, '12 12:08

So, with the new fortification feature that has been brought into the game I've been running some ideas on how to make wars more interesting that just numbers these days. Any true hitter knows what shots he can and cannot hit by simple guesstimation and a little help from friends who may know their target better. So with that being said hopefully what I have thought up will skew things to the point that a 50 kill gun can be just as dangerous as a 500 kill gun. Though it won't be as good everywhere.

Let's start with ranks. We've all seen those old school crime movies about when some Don comes into another city everyone is on high alert, even the low rankers. They have eyes on them everywhere they go and everything they're doing. Which ultimately would make them an easier target. Why? Because two reasons. First, regardless of rank if you're not from that city you won't know your way around. Second, even the lowly gangster and goombas of the mafia world in their homecity have ten times the connections a button man would from another city. If anything, rank would hurt more than help.

So ultimately what the suggestion is, let's make ranks reflect exactly what's stated above. This would in turn reinforce the ranks we, today, as a userbase don't seem to appreciate. What if a Made Man could change the tide of a war? It's happened before, but at this point in the world it's extremely unlikely. You could wackback 5 times.

For intance a Godfather would roughly drop to around Capo/Boss stats, Don or any crew leader roughly Made Man stats, and all else would be placed into a Gangster-Wise Guy boat. The way it would transfer stats and you'd be placed obviously would go unknown however by doing this it would make the wack boost lower and defense lower but only in cities that aren't your own. Which ultimately would make your rank more appreciated and valuable when in their homecity. Does this mean a Made Man is going to one shot a Godfather? No, or at least unlikely.

Now that the rank issue has been brought up and my idea is out there (its going to need work obviously) let's touch on another homecity to out of city perk. Let's say you're from Las Vegas. Naturally you will be a better shot in Las Vegas than in Philadelphia by far. Let's make that reflect. By this I mean, let's take the guaranteed know how out of wacking some more. When you're in Las Vegas you're going to be far more accurate with your shots than Philadelphia thus kills become easier to get, however when you fly to Las Vegas it drops a little, you fly to Chicago, it drops more, Philadelphia, same thing. So say it takes at this point 10 kills for Mobster A to kill Mobster B in all the cities roughly. Instead now Mobster A is in Las Vegas, again his homecity. He shoots at Mobster B though since Mobster B is from Philadelphia it only takes him 6 kills to hit him instead. Though when Mobster A and Mobster B are in Las Vegas they both have the same chances of hitting each other and it maybe even harder (original 10 to make the conversion easier perhaps). Though now Mobster A is in Philadelphia, Mobster B's homecity. It takes Mobster A, 15 kills to hit Mobster B.

Now ultimately what this does is makes it harder for someone to come to another city and wipe them out like they barely existed regardless of bodyguard status. However, it also can work in the favor of other cities too. Bodyguards will only be so effective in other cities and more effective in homecities. It'll make bodyguard wacking a larger part of the game than it ever has been before. It will also make the use of many like it use to be more crucial instead of 5-10 people with cannons. It'll take even more bodyguard wackers, even on the littlest of wars.

So we have rank accounted for in overall stats. Even on vision, people will see less. Stealth, people won't stealth as easily and so on. Where as in their homecity they'll stealth better or see more. Not dramatically but to the point that you really have to work to stay hidden or be able to be seen.

We also talked about making the city transition effect the attack to defense more in depth that goes hand in hand with the rank.

Lastly I know it's been talked about before, but since when can mobsters fly with hundreds of bodyguards from one city to the next. I think it's time that instead of just an overall cap theres some sort of travel cap. By this I mean when you fly you don't take 100 with you. Maybe you only take 50-75. Maybe it's unknown? Maybe if you have 100 and you fly, you take anywhere from 50-60 but you don't know for sure. Which again would make the homecity to out of city perk even better.

I know this makes the powerful cities not powerful in weaker cities, but that's the point. It's to keep the game from getting ran away with by only a city or two like it has in past. Now, it can still get that way if people aren't strategic. People would have to wait for others to fly into neutral cities or even their targets to come to them and so on. It would make the strategy much better

One other note, which this has been bugging me for sometime. In wars we have seen crew leaders for one city, fly to another and take Godfather. What if once a certain level of wacking/bg wacking took place in a city there was something like "The fed's are on high alert. You'll have to comeback at a later time." message. Basically, you can't setup an organized crime syndicate due to the fact of so much death and such. This would prevent people from moving for the Godfather rank. Which the reason I pick that instead of simply buying a headquarters is because the attack/defense difference is much different.

So a brief recap.

1.) When you're in a city outside of your homecity you're lower ranked, but if you're in your homecity you see everything better, have better connections etc.
2.) Attack/Defense to be skewed in appropriation with being in a homecity, neutral city or enemies city.
3.) Bodyguards only fully effective in homecity, less effective in neutral or enemy city. (Only so many can travel with you, exact number not disclosed.)
4.) If too much wacking/bg wacking takes place than normal a crew leader cannot move to take Godfather without waiting till a certain amount of time has elapsed.

These are just ideas, but I think when you put them all together it makes for something very interesting.

Report Post Tip

1.) We travel around a LOT so would get the lay of the land pretty good so no need for rank changes due to unfamilair surroundings

2.) How strong you are does not be affected in real life just because you travel to another city.

3.) See point 2. It is not hard to book out an entire plane or two if you have the money, if anything make travelling more expensive since you have to book a seat for each Bodyguard you have.

4.) Many a takeover has happened when a crime family has been distracted by other business, the police would be more drawn to 25 dead mobsters than the house of a suspected Godfather.

Just my 2cents on it.

We do travel around a lot however we take an entire mobsters career and jam pack it into months of learning. Our learning curve is made to be believed that we just somehow learn all this information out about cities.

Personally I travel to Atlanta a lot in real life. I can honestly say I can get there and back without a GPS now. Though I've been there 8 times in a year and a half. However, could I find a specific street? No, not without directions from someone else. Which in these days did not have GPS. They had maps, which maps don't have everything that an actual resident of the city would know.

I'm from Columbus Ohio and bet that I could get around here 100 times better than someone whose visited the city. That's because I live here though. It's my home. I do my everyday business and life here.

How strong you are would change because you wouldn't have the same connections, you'd be unfamiliar with certain places, you wouldn't know what parts of town to go to and to stay away from. You wouldn't know every single organized crime operation that wasn't yours in the other city. You could end up ordering chinese from a restaurant from a competing mobster.

If anything if they knew massive amounts of mobsters were dying, a take over would be expected and they'd be trying to figure out when and where.

Report Post Tip

The result of this change would be that one leaves their home city, doesn't do drug deals half as much, won't buy MIA's & won't be completing city specific achievements.

Report Post Tip

I don't see how that would necessarily change people flying. You'd have to work harder. Say you fly to Chicago, it wouldn't be easier for someone from New York to kill you if you're from Philadelphia. Only the Chicago people would have a better chance at taking you down. It would make it more of a threat to travel which it always was that way in the mafia.

Report Post Tip

If I load a gun in Chicago and fly to New York scope out my target and shoot the gun will do the same damage as it would have done in Chicago. I agree with FatherJack and would like to add that these absurd changes would be detrimental to the game.

Report Post Tip

Actually I would like to add, you can pay a kid on the corner to give you directions or you know you could follow road signs, if you can't do either of those  then you ain't cut out for the mafia. Your comment about chinese from a rival mobster I do hope you are not going to suggest making it a points based game requiring food to have the energy to complete tasks.

Are you seriously saying that the Police would ignore the countless amounts of dead bodies showing up in the streets to try and work out who is killing off who to take over without you know processing the dead bodies?

I'll be explaining tomorrow by the way.
