Player commission transparency. Started by: Zal_Innez on Jul 17, '12 14:33

After seeing the launch of the players commsission there has been something that I think should happen. As it is now we only know if one of the PC has taken note of the suggestion by either responding or sponsering. As things are in this world there will always be those who seek positions and do nothing with them. While i'm not suggesting that this is the case from an initial look through the suggestions forum tere are those on the PC who are more active than others.

What i am suggesting is that once one of the player commision reads a thread there should be someway to know without them having to actually post, as with all threads there will be those who simply have no opinion. This to me would be a good feature for the PC as it would add a little transparency and show the users that it isn't just going to be the usual suspects in each suggestion.

I must agree with this Zal, it only serves to make a better Player Commission. Weight has to be pulled by each individual member to make a great commission and this is one way of doing that.

I'm aware the majority have been using their PC account to discuss ideas in the forum and sponsoring threads, but undoubtedly there are those who haven't, as it stands the suggestion would show the userbase who is just there for the position and those who are actually in it for the betterment of the site as a whole.

I will answer this on my PC account and state my own point of view.

I read all the suggestions from my playing account and tend to log my PC account only to make a comment or to check my mail.

I really wouldn't want to end up in a position where I have to log my PC account to read the suggestions forums just to show I have checked them. If nothing more than its a ball ache that for some reason when ever I swap to my PC account and close my browser I have to relog into the game.

I think this comes down the rules governing the Player Commission.

I know that PC-tita is going to clarify to the PC members exactly what their obligations are, but from my brief discussion with her and Squishy on this, the PC members are expected to contribute.

If they choose not to contribute, I know that nothing in terms of the PC membership is set in stone. Those who read everything and have no opinion either way, I would suspect, will be deemed as not pulling their weight and will be removed. A replacement will then be selected.

I'm sure full rules will follow to the PC members and those pertinent to the users will be made available to them so that they understand just what it is PC members are doing/should be doing.

So, don't worry - everyone on the Player Commission will be expected to contribute to the Player Commission!

The reason behind me thinking like this is more for the PC members benefit than the users benefit. I know there have been times in the past where the abilities or admins/streetcleaners/helpdesk have come into question from some players. I see this would be a way to safe guard your own future in your roles and showing the users at the same time that you are being as active as you can be amongst the suggestions forum.

At the end of the day, all this change would actually mean is that the users would not be able to question the PC members on their performance or lack of performance. For me this is more about piece of mind from both sides of the fence.

This is not an attack by anyway, shape or form on the PC. It's something I'm fully for, I just think that in the long term future to safe guard your own positions, a minor change like this would not be a problem at all.

I'm not sure if players should be taking it upon themselves to hunt down ineffective PC members. I'm sure they have people "above" doing that job so us "below" need not worry about these things.

While I can understand people being worried with PC members not committing to their tasks, I will ask for a bit of patience. Only today is the actual official start date of work for the PC Members. The past days were used for testing and getting the group together.

Since this is the very first run, this is mostly a test run. Everything is going to run as a test so that we can see where we can improve, what methods is best to be used. As you can see in the PC forums, a set of rules was already posted, we also already have other rules on the work but those weren't posted yet because we are trying to make sure that things will run in a certain way. We didn't wanted to post something in advance and end up realizing that it should be a different way, which would then make us change certain rules.

We had already thought of certain circumstances in advance. PC members are expected to give their input, being it negative or positive, however, we will not rush through threads and do it all immediately. We have a maximum number of ideas that we will be working on at the same time, in order to not spamm the admins and coders with work.

All PC members already know that they can be voted out at any moment if they don't fulfill their tasks. Also all PC Members will be voted in or out of the PC every 60 days. The voting process as well as the application process, will be explained at a later date once we have it all figured out.

I don't think the method you are suggesting will help control the members activity. I could open a suggestion thread, not read it and it would still mark it as if I had read it. Everyone will be able to see who's being active and who isn't. Everyone has access to the PC forum where all discussions will be made. There you will definitely see who's putting the effort in and who you should or shouldn't vote for once votes are open for the next PC team.

Report Post Tip

With all this in mind, I'm not sponsoring this suggestion.

Report Post Tip

Don't worry, Izzy and I have well cared for whips to make sure they do their jobs.

Report Post Tip

I would be worried that if there was a box showing I read something but didn't sponsor it, that could be interpreted as a "he saw it and didn't like it." That may or may not be true. I may really like it, but have a lot to say about it and no time to type it right then and there. Or I might be totally indifferent to it.
