Come along! Marietta Rossi, Mob Boss of Detroit, called over her shoulder to a large brick wall of a man. Hurrying down the street in her business attire, her high heels clicking upon the pavement, it took everything the man had to keep up with her. The woman was walking with a purpose; keeping her eyes glued to the fruit stand on the Street ahead of her, she made a beeline right towards it. Can I have this? she asked when she neared the vendor, stooping over and grabbing a small crate of oranges. Mari turned it over, spilling out the fruit onto the ground. "HEY!" the man protested, grabbing for the crate. "What are you doing?!" Hooking his hand onto one end he began to try and pull it back from the woman, who dug her feet into the ground and pulled back. Look, I need this. Let me borrow it. Five minutes, really. "No!" the vendor yelled, tugging back and pulling the box from Marietta's grasp. With a shocked expression and a huff, the green-eyed woman immediately grabbed another crate of apples and turned it over onto the ground before dashing off. Thanks! I owe you! she called over her shoulder, her companion dashing to catch up and avoid the screams of the man at the fruit stand. Approaching a small group gathered near the street sign of Main and 40th, Marietta placed the box upon the ground, shifting it around for a few moments until it was in the perfect position. She stepped onto the crate, teetering slightly as she tried to keep her balance. Wow, I am definitely not getting used to this, she remarked to Pedro, smoothing the front of her blouse and skirt. Lifting her head high the woman graced the few gathered gangsters with a small smile. Mind if I interrupt what you all were doing? she asked as they turned their attention towards her, bewildered. Hi! she said in a chipper tone. This is the first time I've done this. The... soapbox thing, I mean. How do you all do this? Balancing is really hard... Pedro cleared his throat from beside her and Marietta quickly drew a serious look to her face. Right. Okay, folks. Today I come out here with a purpose. Two days ago I was attacked. A small, lone gasp rose from the crowd. Nodding her head solemnly the woman pushed a lock of her blond hair behind her ear before clasping her hands together in front of her. Yes, I know. It is a tragedy that will go down in hist- Another, louder, throat clearing from her companion made Marietta sigh in exasperation and give him a stone-cold death stare. Okay, maybe I didn't get attacked directly. Everyone, this is Pedro, my bodyguard. During the late afternoons I like to wander about my city, trying out food from every new restaurant that has opened, and yes, on occasion I make several repeat visits. So what? Giordi's makes amazing pasta like you've never even tasted. Anyway, Pedro and I were just leaving the restaurant after having had a delicious lunch when we were approached by this funny looking little man. His hat was pulled down over his face so we couldn't see if we knew him or not, but he certainly approached like he knew us. Pedro and I tried to step around him but the man, he... he... She shot a sad glance at Pedro, her eyes moving down to his heavily bandaged shoulder and right arm. This man, he pulled out a gun and without warning fired a round off straight into Pedro's shoulder. We think he may have been going for the middle of his chest, but with the hat obscuring his vision maybe he missed... "Marietta," the man said wearily. Right, I'm rambling. Moving on, I'm so shocked that I can't think to do anything except pull my glove off my hand and slap him across the face. "Thanks!" I say to the kid, my acidic tone dripping off my tongue and my eyes narrowing into slits. Wow, that was good. I should be a writer. Anyway, the kid seems to think I'm genuine so he looks me full in the face in surprise. "Really?" he asks. "No," I said, thinking this kid was a dumbass to the extreme, "That was sarcasm." "Oh," he replies, before breaking into a smile. A smile. What is wrong with this man? Placing his gun back into the waistband of his pants I hear the sounds of Pedro falling down onto the sidewalk next to me before the kid goes, "Feel free to shoot back!". A voice pipes up from the crowd. "So did you shoot him?" With a small blush Marietta begins to twiddle her thumbs around one another. Giving a tiny grin she darted a glance at Pedro. Well, see, I would've, but I was more concerned with the fact that Pedro was losing blood fast. That, and, well, I sort of had forgotten my gun that day on the way to the diner. That's all beside the point. I tell the kid, "No, I'm not going to shoot you," to which he shrugs. Thinking this has to be the weirdest thing that has ever happened to me- and trust me, I spend time with Delilah so I know weird- the kid then continues on by stating simply, "Well, sorry I did that. I was just trying to make things a little more interesting and a little more fun around here." Shaking her head and letting out a large exhale in frustration, she glanced across the crowd. A hint of anger was boiling in her eyes as she placed her hands upon her hips. So after I 'escorted' the kid back to his home and had him 'dealt with', I got to spend the evening watching Pedro lay in the ER from blood loss due to a gun-shot wound, all in the name of fun. Here's what I want to know: when looking for this type of 'fun', do people not consider their actions and the outcome it will have on others? Sure, this kid may have had fun, but trust me, I know I wasn't having a grand old time. When you're looking for fun that possibly can end another person's life, do you take a moment to think about it? Are you that bored with your daily grind that you feel sparking a large-scale shooting fest will cure this stagnant feeling you are having? Or are you so afraid to ask your Boss to end your life that you willingly walk into the home of another mobster and fire, knowing that nine times out of ten they'll fire back? Marietta closed her eyes for a moment before opening them, fixing her eyes upon Pedro. Giving the man a smile she turned back to the crowd. Thankfully, in this case, no one lost their life, and I didn't lose my cool. I think what I'm trying to say is, there are many ways to have fun around here. Don't immediately turn to your gun, nor violence. Take a walk around the streets and listen to the many voices of mobsters speaking their minds. Travel through the business districts and find something that catches your interest. Doing things like these will make sure your life lasts a little longer, and hell, you might even be recognized for your good deed. Personally, I know I'd rather be known as the gal who 'made that awesome speech about dolphins' rather than 'that person who shot so-and-so's bodyguard and was found dead in a dumpster an hour later'. With a smile Marietta nodded once more. Thank you, and feel free to share your opinions. Stepping off of the soapbox she finds that one of her heels has become caught in the cracks of the wood. She struggles for a moment before whining to Pedro for help. The man comes over and after several seconds of effort has not managed to loosen the grip on her shoe. With a frown, Marietta steps out of her black high heel and steps off the crate into the crowd, leaving her shoe behind and hobbling as she walks. |

It seems to me as though this young man is a short timer around these parts and he knows it. I am thankful that you were not hurt, but I am more worried about the simple fact that this happened. I do not like the fact that any simple gangster can walk around shooting his gun off at higher ranked members for no reason. I agree this stupid act can cause backlash for so many who do not deserve to have anything happen to them. It is sad that one immature person can possibly ruin the lives of so many just for shits and giggles. I personally believe there are many other opportunities out there for people to keep occupied. Going to a bar or just walking down these streets can broaden one's mind like never before. That is all I have to say on this matter. Hugs marietta, Shakes Pedro's hand and walks off |

Denver lowers his head and nods at Marietta and Pedro sympathetically. It is a shame that there are people that feel so utterly bored that they will resort to entertaining themselves by, effectively, duelling other people. 99 times out of a hundred, these random shots will not find their designated target and the only intention was to shoot at something that has been stated as off limits. It's possible that this individual is bored for a reason though. I mean there isn't much going on at any particular time for some of these people. Too shy to speak on the streets, too impatient to stand still and listen to speeches being made and too low ranked to be occupying themselves with tasks that need to be done within the family. Unfortunately though, these people will find that they can either adapt to how we run our daily lives, or just be yet another Mafioso who didn't make it and be thrown out onto the scrap heap along with the other failures at this life. Unfortunate, but that's just how some people are. I'm sorry for your traumatic experience Marietta. I wish Pedro a speedy recovery! |
