Original Suggestion Thread: BlackJack at the Casino by MikeHunt

Report Post Tip

The original suggestion was as follows:

Winning Blackjack occurs when you beat the dealer either with the best hand without going over 21, or when you do indeed have true BlackJack. Which is an Ace, with a face card or a ten. With receiving 1.5 times your wagered bet.

Right now in the Casino, you can have a true BlackJack. An Ace and a face card. And the dealer is allowed to keep dealing himself cards until he gets 21, or he busts.

This isn't correct in true Casino play. Once the player has true BlackJack, and if the dealer does not, the hand is over. The player is rewarded with 1.5 times his wager. There is no push rewarded to the house unless the dealer has true BlackJack.

My suggestion is just to fix the Casino so that it's true play. And yes I lost 600,000 dollars due to this.

I sponsored this suggestion on the basis that this isn't how Blackjack works in real life.

PC-Flash-Fire then clarified the situation as follows:

This isn't actually a fault, it's house rule that is used in several casino's & was researched and implemented by Anubis. To remove this would make it easier for players to bankrupt casino's which in turn will lead to players no longer wanting to own them & then there will be no casino's.

Even with this rule in place I have seen players such as Striphe, Archangel & myself to name a few walk away from a casino with 5mil plus, without this rule that could have easily been 8-10 mil.

Maybe a better solution is to have an option for these house rules such as this & being forced to stick on splitting aces & buy out of a hand within casino management which will breed some competition between the city casino's.

I personally still dislike this as a rule as I don't know of any casinos that operate this policy. I would ask that a coder clarifies this is an intention decision and not a mistake.

I have redacted the following on the basis that it is outside the scope of the suggestion:

{I do like the idea of house rules and suggested that a list of house rules should be made available for each casino. This was on the basis that the owners could then pick and choose which rules they wish to enforce making their casino more/less desirable.}

Report Post Tip

There have been a number of issues I have had whilst playing blackjack which differ massively from the casinos I have visited. It would appear that whilst I thought there was coding errors in the place these are deliberate house rules that have been found obscurely.

Clarifying these would help massively.

{If we could pick and chose which house rules we wanted to put into play that would be brilliant}

Report Post Tip

{Not trying to be evil or anything but I don't think this should change as the complication to it was hard enough as it is. Anubis took forever to code the way the Casino's are now so we know this part of the game is rather difficult as far as coding goes.}

I don't like the idea of changing the Casino's in the slightest. I would prefer it if anything is done that house rules can be stated somewhere in view where the players may read them. Casino's in my view are perfect with the motto of sticking to "House always wins". Casinos are very expensive and they should be able to keep themselves afloat not stink themselves down. I hope we don't decided to change the rules as far as Ace and Face cards go.

Report Post Tip

As my player account is dead and no longer has a casino I can still safely say that I think the casino's should stay the way they are. They are mob owned casino's and as such would have house rules based in the casino's favour, hell people are lucky they walk away from a casino with several million without being threatened with death.

Also Casino's are very expensive and if these house rules are removed the initial cost will have to be lowered or people will simply not buy casino's. It costs around £22,000,000 for a casino and all you get with that is slots & have to pay a further $5,000,000 for the other games plus add $5,000,000 to $10,000,000 to the vault. All that money has to be made back somehow or it's not worth owning.

{I think the hardest part of the code was actually getting the games to work and the randomization, coding a toggle for each of the house rules to on/off shouldn't be too difficult.}

Report Post Tip

I'm not against House Rules and these are meant to be mob owned Casinos. However I don't think it unreasonable that the more obscure ones that appear to be mistakes, either be corrected or at least acknowledged somewhere.

If these are disclosed to the player, they then have no reason to believe they've been swindled by the game; just swindled by the owner of the casino.

Report Post Tip

{Just because someone took for ever to code something doesn't necessarily make it right. The main issue is that he has coded in a chunk of "non normal" rules}

I am not against casinos staying as they are, however I think there needs to be an element of clarity regarding some of the rules used, especially blackjack wise when they are not what people would be expecting.

Report Post Tip

Perhaps each casino could have the owner set his own rules on situations such as this?

Report Post Tip

I think that is the way to go. Toggle option for a selection of House Rules.

so should we have a vote on toggle option for each of the house rules (not a blanket on/off for all house rules) with house rules posted above the blackjack board?

Report Post Tip

I think that is the best option.

A list of House Rules accessible for each casino, with a toggle option for each, to be selected by the owner of the casino.

Report Post Tip

I'm in favour of implementing this to an extent - perhaps allowing the player to win the normal amount for a hand as opposed to 1.5? The few casinos I've been to have a natural (10, A) blackjack trump any point-achieved blackjack, and it's worth noting that the rule I've just stated holds true in MR's blackjack when the reverse occurs - a dealer that achieves a natural blackjack immediately ends the game, not giving the player the chance that, ironically, a dealer would normally have in this situation.

Report Post Tip

I'm slightly lost there Ralph.

As far as I am aware you can only get Blackjack with two cards, an ace and a ten value card (ten or picture card) If you get 21 through more than 2 cards then it is not blackjack.

Blackjack is the ultimate winning hand.

How MR differs from any casino I have played in is the dealer deals a card to every player and to the dealer, they then deal and second card to everyone but the dealer.

Each player takes his turn and when all are done, the dealer finally deals him/herself their second card.

Report Post Tip

Sorry, semantics. I meant a point-achieved 21 (or, as I used the words, point-achieved blackjack) as opposed to a natural blackjack.

The point I was trying to make is that when the reverse occurs for the dealer, the player isn't given the opportunity to try and tie the game - whereas, when the player gets a blackjack, the dealer has the ability to try and tie the game by achieving 21 - albeit with more cards.

Report Post Tip

Some people said this is a house rule some casinos have. I'm not an expert when it comes to casinos, but I have noticed the same thing Ralph mentioned - when the dealer gets a BJ, the player is not allowed to ask for any more cards. In the opposite situation, the dealer can try for a tie. This is clearly an advantage the house has over the player. Is this how the said house rule is supposed to work, creating an asymmetry in the rules? If not, then I think this should be corrected.

A list of house rules the owner could toggle on or off would be a nice addition. Right now all casinos have the same rules, this would allow them to be less or more attractive to players, still leaving the decision in the owner's hands. {However, I would like to know a coder's opinion here - if this requires a lot of work to implement, I think it is not something that should get a high priority on the TODO list.}

Report Post Tip

You can't beat pure blackjack, only equal it.

Also I have never seen the dealer on MR try and beat me when I have blackjack,

Report Post Tip

El_Nino the dealer still has to stick if on 17 or above, but if the dealer is below that he can still draw cards until he reaches that or busts. I have seen it where I have had blackjack and the dealer has 16 and he pulls out a 5 and it is counted as a tie.

Report Post Tip

{This still really needs coder confirmation before we can go further with it. I would like to see a list of house rules made actionable by the owner. Is this possible?}

Report Post Tip

{I don't think that this would pertain to a house rule - the point is thast the dealer is allowed an action that the player is not - no casino operates under two different sets of rules for different players, period.}
