Inspired, Denver once again takes to the Streets and hops up onto a vacant crate to get head and shoulders above everyone else. Spinning to face the crowd, Denver flashes a smile at one Mafioso who is watching closely and addresses everyone. Ladies and Gentlemen of all ages, sizes and mental capacity, I stand before you today with a message, an elaboration on a previous contribution. I've only recently arrived on these shores, following in the footsteps of my bloodline and going down the path that is already laid before my feet. However, it has been deemed necessary that I light the way for the majority of you. Yesterday, I found myself enthralled by a semi-rant from the Don of Philadelphia on the speeches that grace our Streets in recent times. The gist of her contribution to a speech made by Scotland was that Iris wishes for the Mafioso of today to actually engage their brains before coming out with useless chat points and actually make speeches or contributions to discussions with some sort of meaning, as opposed to a means of just making it seem like the individual has some sort of Street presence. Denver nods toward Don Iris, acknowledging her as his inspiration for bringing this to everyone's attention. Turning back to the crowd, Denver scowls and resumes his speech. Don't get me wrong, keeping our Streets active is crucial and I've not forgotten the times when there was very limited activity on the streets and any activity is better than no activity. However, I do feel that it's time the idle babble was less often, and speeches with some sort of relevance to society were more often. I may not be perfect myself, and you can call me hypocritical until your hearts are content, but the words that I speak ring true. The mouth that is speaking them should not matter in this instance. You can glance at my rank, you can recall my own Street contributions and speeches and accuse me of idle babble but I am countering that with this speech in itself. It is all good and well to have a discussion point, should it have some sort of bearing on our society and actually have some sort of meaning. Forgive me for referring to Iris' contribution too often, but she also said about the original orator. It is your job to inspire others to express opinions, draw out those people who have a genuine opinion on your topic and actually reply to those who take the time out to make a contribution to your speech. That's not asking too much, considering her position in our society. For those unaware of Iris' comment, I'll recite it back to you as I was quick enough to copy down what she said on the back of a leaflet. Denver coughs, and begins to read from the back of the leaflet, attempting to match Don Iris' emotion and spoke every word meaningfully.

This is the classic double-edged sword if you ask me. As for what it's worth, I struggle to see any originality these shores. Not in the truest sense of the word. Allow me to elaborate. Once upon a time my blood-line was around a lot. Then for a time, probably six months or longer, I disappeared. I've returned to world much the same as when I left. The same faces dominate the very sky-lines of the mob, moving with the constelletions of power. This is a cliche in itself. The same card games get played, the same people sit around drinking coffee and shooting the shit, the same disagreements and points of view are stated. The same people tell elabroate and enjoyable stories of what they did today. Sometimes joined by oters they meet along the way. And like goes on much as before. When it's peaceful, that is. I feel there'll always be an element of talking for the sake of talk and the words will largely be the same down to the personalities and what is deemed acceptable and what is not. Still, an interesting topic in which many will doubtless disagree with me. |

Originality is something of a myth in this place. Whatever can be said has been said, but that doesn't mean it can't be repeated in order to keep us entertained through debates or to enlighten those who weren't around when it was first said. Anywho, I do have a question for you...What exactly is idle babble? Is it a repetition of something we've already heard? An off topic reply to someone elses comment? A very short reply about the topic on hand? I'm not entirely sure what you mean. But I don't think that matters, I think everyone should babble on as much as they like, if it is babble and worthless than that comment will be seen for what it is and for the most part people will generally ignore it, or criticise it. |

DocHoliday, that's a fair point my friend. But I'll explain to you what I intended as the meaning of idle babble. My definition of it would be that it is chat for the sake of making an appearance, to appear that you are active on the streets when all you are really doing is suffering from a case of verbal diarrhoea. It is spewing out nonsense, or not actually voicing an opinion that matters. Lastly, it is the saying of something which has absolutely no bearing on our society at all. Hopefully that will assist you in my meaning. |

How dare you call for an end to Oompa_Loompa!? Really, he is a shining example of the kind of participation you seem to dislike, and yet many find his comments amusing and/or entertaining. Who is to judge what is worthwhile and what is not? Last time I checked there was a healthy number of godly figures able and willing to dispose of the very worst kind of inanities we see out here, which is great, why are we now trying to impose censorship on everything else? This world is many things to many people. For some it is a haven to let their creative juices run wild and tell us all tales, or participate in stories. For others it is a quest for power. For a few it is a shoot-em-up; for other's it's a place to argue or debate... there's many different approaches to our life, and nobody is going to tell me which the "right" one is. My family alone has had generations where they have taken new approaches, for example some may not have involved themselves in politics at all, and contented themselves with talking to friends and joking around here in the streets. ... Apologies, my daughter thought she'd "help" me speak. ..lives have led to a different approach in how they have approached our streets. What is idle babble to you, could well be someone elses approach to our life - who are you, or anyone but the Gods, to tell them it is invalid? |

I'd like to add on to what OhCrap said. These are our streets, this is where we live, where we fight, where we get together to talk about our daily routine and our progress, our failures and our successes. At times there are serious discussions that reflect serious issues that are of intrest to all. Other times, we are sitting around and shooting the breeze and bs'ing about stuff. Its all part of the daily life, we cant commit crimes all the time, there are idle times. Some of them are used towards bettering ourselves and making sense of our daily routines, others are used to alleviate boredom and exchange opinions about anything under the sun. |

It is my feeling that as long as a person composes a well rounded thought out contribution to our community it belongs on our streets. It saddens me to see individuals add useless comments to an otherwise thoughtful discussion but the content of those discussions need not all be serious and meaningful as the streets bring welcome entertainment to our community in what would otherwise be dull lifeless times. |
