Where there's a Will. Started by: ClockworkAngel on Jul 27, '12 22:22

So I know we all have died with tons of money in the bank.

And I know we've all raised our eyebrow at the small peanuts our parents pass onto us from those millions of dollars left in the bank. In fact, sometimes it can be downright insulting.

SO....my suggestion is creating the ability to have a living will of sorts. It can cost credits to have one, maybe 5 every 30 days like the timer's. When we die, if a will is in place, the next of kin will receive a percentage of what's in the bank of the deceased. This will not include money that's on hand, just what's in the bank.

I haven't done all the math yet and I've only run this by one person, so I'm sure it has some disadvantages.

Also, to avoid people buying a will only during time of war, it should be done a sliding scale. Such as when you first purchase the will, you will only be entitled to a small percentage of your bank, say 25%. The longer you maintain your will, the more money you are entitled to until you hit the highest cap. Say 75-80%.

Thoughts?

Isn't a common complaint that there's far too much money in game anyway? Sorry I don't agree with this, I think you should come back with more or less nothing

The thing is this is all illegal money and likely the parents associates or the authorities get a hold of the bulk of it upon an un timely death, not the kids.

I'd like to weigh in with a similar idea on this. Rather than something where you will away tons of money, I think that at the rank of Gangster only, you are given an option of Private Detective. It's a fictional character that you give X amount of money to. They spend their life searching for your son or daughter. This can be 500 million or 2 million. The PD can never be seen in locals or searched for. Its the same as annonymous. The player is most likely going to demote to do this after attaining a good bit of money and has to make a decision of body guards or more wealth for his/her son/daughter. It's a tough choice but it comes with a catch:

The PD will take 5% fee every month from your "will" for his services. As Anubis quoted the issue with a will is that it destabilizes the economy and I think with this feature you have the option to prepare but at a great cost and not to mention you are having to prepare for this as a gangster of this life. What it will do though is ensure that players come back and right away, we will all take less of a break as our money dwindles down but that quick advantage to some money is nice.

When does the PD find your kin? To me I think once your player is gangster he will find your kin, this allows you to put that money right back for the PD until you demote again to ensure more money and you wont blow it all on credits right from the start, you have to work for 2 days before you can get your money, and or join crews and all that jazz.

It takes money out of the economy and makes more people want to demote. It's food for thought but I think its a better way to do the "will" idea.

I feel there is already the option to give your finaniances to another player that plays the game. This is a risky option if the player has the same percentage of dying as you do. Either way its better to have your money spread out to keep most of it in the event something happens. I dont neccessarily like the idea of keeping money in the game.

Personally I would take the option of just buying credits with money so that I can effectively keep my money if I die, rather than paying credits to keep it in cash form :P

^ which is why credits should not outlive the account purchased on them.

Death was traditionally the main outflow of cash within the game.

I hate the fact that you can start over with a fat wad of credits that you did absolutely nothing to earn. It is essentially the same as just receiving your bank account back from your last character.

That said, at least there is a chance you won't be able to offload your credits for as high a price as you paid, so you may lose some cash. Not enough, not even close to enough, but at least it is some.

I cannot get behind any idea that suggests new accounts get more perks from their previous one. The chump change the game provides you with at the start should be all you get.

{I would actually be inclined to agree with you Grin but if you kill the games income, Izzy and I will have to find real jobs :( }
