My suggestion is in regard to the lack of editing power players have with the WYSIWYG window. My proposal is two-fold: the inclusion of a preview button next to the submit/send button that would allow players to see their post as it will look in the thread BEFORE posting, and the inclusion of an edit post button beneath their post that would allow them to make changes to the post AFTER posting.
Let me say that I have searched the Game Suggestions forum and am aware that editing a post has been previously discussed (in Bingo's Deleting a Created Post thread, Aug 06), but I feel this issue is a prevalent annoyance to many players (especially RP'ers such as myself) and is thus deserving of its own thread.
I anticipate that the argument against the preview post function will be that that is the current function of the WYSIWYG feature. But the primary problem with the WYSIWYG window is that it isn't always 'what you get', by that I mean that it does not necessarily reflect what scripting or formatting is compatible with the posting medium. For example, MobMail does not support 'boxing' a bit of text, but since WYSIWYG does not reflect that, what ever text you had placed inside a box would be deleted (or at least not visible) within the sent mail. By being able to preview your mail beforehand, you would save yourself (and the recipient of your MM) the trouble of having to resend an additional mail, sans the box.
I feel the issue with lack of editing power AFTER posting is prevalent enough to not need much explanation on my part. I will say that the inclusion of a timestamp on the post stating when it was last edited would be helpful in recalling what posts a player has previously edited.
As this is my first post to the Game Suggestions forum, I apologize beforehand for any errors in protocol I may have committed. I appreciate the time and hard work of the Player's Commission, as well as to all who contribute in the discussion of my suggestion.
Thank You. |

I like the sound of a preview post but not sure how feasible it is to code. |

I agree that the WYSIWYG doesn't actually translate into the final product you're looking for. I've actually stopped using it and reverted to the old style as I think that is more likely to give you what you're actually looking for, and with this in mind, I would greatly appreciate a preview button before a finalised post is made. |

I think the preview option alone would solve most of the troubles with posting, assuming it is used. And as far as it being hard to code, (mind you I know very little about programming), I've seen it done before in BB-coded forums. |

Please excuse the double post. In addition to my above statement, the way the preview option is typically formatted (the way I've seen it done anyway), once you click the preview button, a new page is directed to (or perhaps a pop-up window) with the preview of your post and the edit box below it. |

The fears of an Edit option are unfounded and frankly a little ridiculous.
Add the option, make it timed. After 60 seconds, 90 seconds, 2 minutes, whatever. This way it only serves the purpose to edit mistakes, not take back a flaming post at a GF that you really wish you wouldn't have said.
Also, the original post never can get fully deleted, as it is an edit, not an erase, option, and the post itself would state at the bottom 'Last edited by (poster) at (time)'
It's definitely codeable, this is the only game with a forum that I play that doesn't have this option. (Could have sworn Enkindle coded this into IJ, could be wrong.) |
