Original Suggestion Thread: Contacts revamp with groups by enkindle
Suggestion Sponsors: PC-Asylum, PC-Flash-Fire, PC-Grin, PC-Pratster and PC-Tech
Report Post Tip

This suggestion was pretty straight forward:

We were talking about redoing the contacts\friends list with groups.

-Each group would be able to have its only color\style.
-People would be able to put contacts in more than one group. (Not sure how styling would work though, if one person has two colors. Any ideas?)
-Possibly be able to mass mail each contact group.

This was supplemented by Countdown suggesting:

Obviously it doesnt have to be these symbols but... +, -, x, *, & (have to make sure they're all common symbols used on most computers/laptops). If someone is in more than one of your groups then it will just show 2,3,or 4 symbols next to, or above their name (on your screen).

Therefore, the suggestion is for the reworking of the contacts options.

We are to consider whether;

- It is viable to contacts to be assigned to groups
- You should be able to mass mail that group of contacts
- Colour, number or symbol would work best to differentiate between groups

Personally, I like the idea of adding groups. I think that Pratsters idea of having to accept to being in someone's contact group could alleviate concerns of spam from mass mailing and I like the idea of symbols rather than colours or numbers.

I'm opening this up for further thoughts.

One option rather than symbols and such is that I can use CSS to add little images before\after the names so that when you copy and paste your online list it won't give away who your contacts are.

Report Post Tip

I think there should be a group that you can't mass mail but they can't see you have added them to the group, so you could mark a group of enemy's.

Report Post Tip

I would really like those images to be small enkindle. I wouldn't want anything too sizeable that would disrupt the 60 second list. That would make mobile use more problematic and would definitely detract from the aesthetics of the game.

I like Flash-Fire's suggestion of a group that you could keep tabs on without them being aware you're doing so. Again, it is easily doable without, but would be easier still if included.

Report Post Tip

Oh, my thought was no larger than a single letter. That way its like the *'s are now.

A question...do the people you add to your contacts even need to know? I don't recall if there was a reason I added the list of people that have you friended.

Report Post Tip

Sounds good to me then.

I've never really questioned why there was a list of people that have added you and thinking about it now, I don't really think that list is required.

Report Post Tip

I think we could open this up for voting, it's very straight forward and obviously Enkindle has a plan laid out.

Report Post Tip

Agreed.

{especially as the majority of the active player commission has now cast their opinion}

Apologies for not commenting on this sooner.

I definitely prefer symbols than colours. We already have colours for ourselves, developers, HelpDesker's etc. on the online list, it could make it look a bit messy in my opinion.

I think I suggested having some groups that didn't require confirmation in the first place anyway, so I'm definitely in favour of that.

If we could get a summary written up of what exactly would be going into them, that would be good.

It seems that the majority like symbols, and having different groups, i.e a confirmation based one and one that isn't.

I think the group that isn't confirmation based, shouldn't be mass mailable (is that even a word? :/) but the one that is confirmation based, should be mass mailable.

So then symbols over colors? Would it be bad to possibly make it so users can toggle off the color of PC/Helpdesk etc. Though it may make them less obvious they could toggle those colors off and assign colors to users.

I personally am a fan of the symbols system.

Report Post Tip

Any further thoughts on this?

Report Post Tip

I'm entirely bothered with colours/symbols, either is fine to me. I like the suggestion itself though and agree that there should be an option to have a group that doesn't require the other party to neither confirm or even know of that "group" existing, so that you could as suggested earlier, create a group of enemys.

Report Post Tip

*not entirely bothered.. apologies.

Report Post Tip

Doesn't look like there is much more to be said on this.

I'm opening the voting.

Voting is for having different contact groups.
