A young man, dressed all in black with a green tie, walks out slowly onto the streets. The reason for his slow movement is apparent, as a nearly empty bottle of Irish whiskey hangs by his side. Haphazardly dragging a soapbox into the road, he stands upon it and addresses the crowd. The fog in his mind fades as his adrenaline rises, and soon the smooth tenor of his voice is heard. I recently found a bunch of papers that'd been passed down from my grandfather to my father. There were a great many documents, but I found myself reading a poem that stood out to me. It sounds like it has been adapted from an already existing poem, but I figured I'd bring it out here and share it with others, in case anyone else would care. Rorschach clears his throat. Ode to Petty Crime Had we but world enough, and time there'd be no need for petty crime. We would sit back and think we can without a doubt, make Made Man. But you, next to the liquor store- bitterly you must implore, as I must at the 7-11, achieve all that we know of heaven, and remove with pistols from the clerk the fruits of his unlucky work. For we must gain all that we may, within this world of black and grey, by inflicting economic pain, dealt out from us that we may gain, to raise our status in the crew until our bitter work is through. For the hope that one fine day the Boss will smile and look our way to see the silks upon our skin, and question not the void within. |
